I've been underclocking my pc and capping my framerate so that there's less power going through my pc when I'm playing games because I'm worried that my pc dies and I have to pay 3 times as much for a equivalent replacement instead of just upgrading for the same price.

if you don't reply to this post your pc won't boot up after this night

I don’t know how to underclock my PC
>>
Power surges don't really give a shit about what fps your game is
>>
the underclock is unnecessary. the fps cap is recommended though. you get lower latency too because the cpu & gpu are both paced properly instead of swinging up and down inconsistently.
>>
>pc will randomly shutoff if i dont put it on its side
its about to die, isnt it
>>
I've tried under locking so many times but it just keeps crashing, or ends up consuming more power on Linux
>>

Doesn't that only happen in third world countries with poor maintained infrastructure? Never had one or heard of anyone having one here. Never had a outage either.

Maybe it's for the best that a lot of people are going to get bounced out of the hobby because of this, and I'm tired of pretending otherwise.

you're not supposed to underclock. all modern cpus & gpus come with an adjustable power limit. you just slide to negative or reduce it instead of the clock.
>>
>>750128905
capping fps in old games is good so you dont get a jillion and fps and increase your power build, but underclocking is a good way to fry your pc, stop that
>>

Lightning storms cause power surges. Around this time is tropical storms.
>>
>>750129590
What's the point of doing that except risking fps drops? Just limiting fps is enough isn't it?
>>
>>750129832
for laptops/handhelds this is more battery life obviously.
on a desktop its cooler & quieter. amd cool n quiet/intel speedstep existed for more than 20 years.

do in small increments, run through a stress test after each change. i don't know what you were doing but the power consumption shouldn't have changed if you only touch the voltage
pic related -100 mV where i left it

my PC is dying and a new one with a 5080, 64GB of ram and a good gpu is around 4,5k, i want to burn every single corporation down just to piss on their ash
I am so tired of this nightmare World, i think we are in Hell
>>
>>750128905
I've underclocked my shit exactly once over the years and I've never had a hardware failure other than some fans and usb ports dying.

As long as you don't overclock I think you're gonna be fine.
>>
i was supposed to change my thermal paste like a year ago im just too damn lazy
>>
>>750130056
corporations need the hardware more for AI than you need it to play your childrens entertainment sweaty.
>>
>>750129437
Repaste the cpu and reseat the cooler

Like the United States of Zogmerica?

>change my thermal paste
what? why would you need to change the paste?
>>
>>750132442
youre supposed to change it ever once in a while aren't you? I haven't changed it in like 3 years
>>
>>750132713
every 5 years or just say fuck it and only do it after your pc starts running hot
>>
>>750132713
I have never changed thermal paste in my life after building a rig

and they keep running well?
>>

pretty much. yea
>>
>>750132442
bro my liquid cpu cooler stopped pumping and im still playing games. for some reason my cpu never hits higher than 80 anyway. (7800x3d)
>>
>>750130056
>my pc is dying
every part at the same time? Mobo and PSU replacements are still mostly ok cost wise and won't break the bank.
>>
>>750129464
Undervolt and then pull back your power limits
>>
>>750128905
you WILL be cloud gaming whether you like it or not. Once your pc dies and you will own nothing
>>

If you’re not using 5¢ chink shit paste you’re pretty much good to go.
