Not really. I mean its just a progression system.
My point was that there is literally zero reward or progress with steam cheevos.
Xbox there is a score, PSN, trophies and a score. Steam it does nothing.
You can showcase them on your profile I guess but its all cosmetic.
It has no actual practical or score keeping use on steam.
I only care about my PSN trophies but even then I only use them as an extra meta level of completion and I mainly only go out my way to plat games I will never play again.

I only do it with games I really (really) enjoyed. If I put enough time into a game that by the end I'm like 70/80 cheevos just from playing I will usually just wrap up the rest. If a game was mid I usually wind up with fuck all because I didn't have much interest in playing it beyond just the core story

If you look at the top scoring PSN trophy hunters and see some of the complete bullshit they play, like shoverlware trash that gets them trophies fast. you can tell these people are not truly enjoying games.
They wouldnt play a game like crimson desert GotY just because the game is too big, 1000s of hours and you can still miss trophies and not ever plat the game when in that they could be playing 100s of shitty flash tier games that give them trophies instead.

I used to obsess over 100%ing every game but eventually I realized purposefully avoiding achievements can be more fun than getting them all.
For example, Resident Evil's achievement for dying once, or Mark of the Ninja's achievements related to killing.

Because plats are cool. Its a visible progress. Gamer score was just a simple number and nobody could see if you are a completioninst, played a lot of games or just spammed shovelware for your GS.
Irony is xbox is adding its own version of plats called "mythic cheevos" and sony already added a number rank to your profile based on trophies and plats are only a contribution to that number rather than a big factor.

I played xbox 360 for only a year or so and I reached over 25k GS not doing anything for cheevos.
I only ended up caring about cheevos when i got a PS4 and iirc that was only to try and catch up to others but I ended up getting retarded about it.
