Sony exits UHD Blu Ray Player market completelyThey really are done with physical media
4K movie discs will become even more expensive than the retro gaming market in the future.
this is fine. the human eye can't see above YIFY quality anyway.

>>750133923Sony's UHD players just weren't as good as Panasonic's equivalents so they were forced out. Sony's consumer electronics haven't been Trinitron tier good for decades at this point.

>>750133923Something serious is happening at sony. They have been a top tier consumer electronics company for decades and over the past decade they look as if they are leaving the entire industry.Stopped making laptops (viao)Looks as if their phones are made third party. Shame too because I have used sony phones since the xpress music days. Decades.Their TV model choices are very low, also getting hard to find.
>>750134684Because they are, and they are being directed to. Something big is coming and it's going to involve a lot of people disappearing.

They were born as a program inside a computer unlike other medias that were "made digital" overtime. It isnt a song you listen to or a movie you watch passively it is software you use. My 1080 is over a decade old and perfectly fine. Only paid 400 for it to.Like I am at a point where I have to force myself to buy a new one soon only because 1080 is old tech and I will need 4k and HDR etc for next console gen.s for their phone business, if you remember, they took over ericsons in the 90s and been making phones ever since but yeah they seem to look like they are bowing out.I literally cant even find a contract phone for sony phones in my country and only recently had I seen their newer models on the website dont say out of stock.Apparently they are supposedly bowing out of the market in EU.Again, apparently (rumors etc)

You owned a 'license' on an online Sony/Playstation service to stream it from them. There's a DRM scheme there fucking it over.If you have the .mp4/WMV/MKV/Webm/whatever, you actually own it. It just stings more this time because they aren't replacing Blu-Ray with another medium despite researchers demonstrating big advances in optical and magnetic medias are possible with the right corporate backing. This is just like music, only retarded faggots use spotify, smart people know how to download mp3s. What is alarming is back in the day on /mu/, there were ton's of threads with mediafire links to album and now this has behavior has been replaced with streaming links. So receiving hate means they have all the more reason to push through it instead of changing course - because who are they competing with? Nintendo doesn't do discs, movie games, or GTA6 and Xbox basically sawed their legs off this generation. So Playstation will wad thru all the hate and dump physical disc production.

There is absolutely no technical or legal reason whatsoever that they couldn't force display manufacturers to include pirate media checks. They already mandate HDCP so your widevine netflix works. I mean it's not rocket science. No one fucking buys blu-rays anymore. I mean, people who care about physical media do, but for every one person who gives a shit, there's like ten thousand who's more than happy to just stream on Hulu or whatever. OF COURSE this is where the industry was headed. There's literally not enough of us to make this shit profitable. Why do you people act like there's some kind of conspiracy going on? >>750157018Webrips will always be limited to the streaming quality of the file itself, at best being lower bitrate than normal blurays. So while a total physical genocide would mean pirating movies would still be possible, it would be at a worse quality than even a physical media from 2005. >>750163225>if there's DRM on it, you don't own that piece of mediaNobody believes this. It might be true for digital media where license can be remotely removed at any time, but DRM has been implemented since the 1980s in NES region lock chips and you'd be genuinely the first to imply that you don't own your NES cartridges.
>>750163453>NES region lock>Region lock>I can't play a game if it's in a different country because the company that made the cartridge made it soYou don't own it, not fully. You are locked by the DRM. You may have possession of the cartridge and be allowed to sell it if you want, but if a company can restrict you based on arbitrary conditions, you don't fully own it.
>>750163873Then remove the chip. It's not illegal. You own the hardware and can modify it as you see fit.
>>750163991So you admit that DRM is the issue, if you need to remove it in order to gain full unrestricted access to your media, which is on a physical medium, the cartridge. The issue is not the medium, it's DRM.
>>750164107Don't argue with physicalfags. They're retardedYou only own your games if you dump them into DRM-free formats
>>750164107It's a DRM you consent to as you are allowed to remove it at any time, legally. It's unlike cracking games, that's illegal. However in the case of physical hardware that you own you are free to accept or decline any voluntary DRM it may come with.
>>750164212Physical ownership is protected by strong laws because jews made it so. Digital ownership isn't really anything but either access with veto or access without external veto. Start cracking and you get lawyers up your ass.
>>750164230Thus the nail of the issue. The laws are flawed and they favour companies that abuse the DRM system to fuck everyone.Instead of crying about plastic discs, you, me and everyone that gives a damn about this issue of media ownership should instead, pressuring lawmakers to revise the law, so it's starts penalising companies that abuse the DRM system, as well as copyright laws.

>>750164886Don't even start man, it's hopeless.I am at the verge of believing retards that obsesses about muh DeeVeeDees are plants from Sony and other companies to dilute people from the real issue, your laws are fucking you in the ass and you're distracted dissertating if penguins can even be considered birds or not. Fuck.

I copped on ages ago, for years I had been picking up old PS1 and Ps2 games for peanuts stuff I had missed out on by working 24/7 for a decade and then suddenly retro physical media games went ballistic to the point I just quit that (I was used to buying 4 or 5 for a dollar). I noticed Zbox360 seemed to be very cheap/free so bout it up and thenm that went nuts. I always had a bih shel;f full of my favorite DVDs and started seeing new sealed boxsets being given away for nothing so I went and picked up a 3000 ior so library of all the best TV shows and movies for the last century. I picked up some blue rays as well but not many a few hundred. I'm not a big fan of blue ray because of it's DRM and server based key updating. I use goof upscalers and enjpt it a lot, just watched noth by northwest and the big sleep but I mainly watch 1080 upscaled. Now the 4K fags will start screaming at me but I don't need fraiser in 4K or Cheers. There are VERY few actual 4K movies/bluerays worth having (scarfare is one) because the vast majority are a con played on pretentious cunts and are just upscaled and burned to disk.I could see the way this was goinga nd I am finished, job is done. There are only aboiut 10 TV shows/seasons and 30 movies ayear worth a shit. Cimema and TV has been around for about 100 years so you will wind up with about 2000 movies and about 1000 TV show seasons. It's not infinite. I do have niches with more thrash in them I likie but really by the time you get to about 3000 items you are done. The only thing I am butibng right now is optical media PC games and software in that pre stea, key window for use on XP and Win 7 systems when I have lefta GPU and shit ;like securom. All the old classics and anything that works without a steam key or online activation The reason this is the only one I am still doing is you could buiy very very cheaply, I'd say thats ending about now thoughTruth be told you aren all late to this party. You're fucked.

>>750170609samefag>>750171295readI have a game cpllection of about 2000 physical and about 30,000 digitaL and DVDs about 3000, bluray about 200, maybe another 1000 digital, stuiff that was not released on physical like the latest korean stuff or strager things or south park etc including youtube videos on stuff like firearms that has been deleted/banned, some porn The great thing about having this stuff is I can or will be able to pretty soon process kit anyway way I want from very high end upsclaing to even colorisation etc. I feel genuinely sorry for people who could not get themselves sorted because theyw ere broke because this was all once very very cheap or because they had no room or whatever but the oens who did it to themselves out of lazyness can get fucked. Convenience? I LIKE looking along a section called war or sci fi or whatever and picking a movie out. It's way more fun that using a media server and way more convenient. It's not a matyetr pof chocie for youm now anyway, liek game [physical media DVDs have shot up in price and you would have to spend 20 grand to get a colelction worth having now, this shit was basically free for yeaqrs and years though, as it was with game phycial media before the hordes arrived.
>Everyone going overdrive on AI shit>AI makes zero money besides NvidiaGrim.
>>750168921>>750169194good posts exactly why I don't like bluray. It's basically a server based system that can shut down players by neglect or deliberately. That being said there are only maybe 100 actua full film rescans worth having in higher resulution anyway the vast majority are just upscalers conning people and I can do that myself now thanks to tensor cores if I care but honestly I don;t mostly, do see scarfare on bluray though, one good example that is worth it but the vast majority of 4K stuff is not it's just upscalers burnt to disk,. I think the whole criterion/4K think was aviral markleting effort targetting applefag types. If there is one thing a cluster of four V100s on an NVLINK board is great fro it is doing a 4K upscale if you care, honestly though I genuonely don;t care.720 upsaled to 1080 and then let the TV do the rest is fine,

>>750172526I think the current 'AI' bubble isa comp;leet scam but mainly because it is a datacenter scam, cloud stuff has always been shit. Mainframes were shit as well. I can do some near stuff locally, I have a100s and v100s and you can run models that code as well as the pay per tpoken stuff as well as generative AI. What I am personally working on is taking films like wheer eaglkes dare or zulu and adding length by making the injuries more realistic and extending the violent scenes having fun with drone firmware and beuilding my own ukranian type skynet. I do find them useful to debate my physics papers with because basically I am taking to myself differently. Cloud LLMs and rent a GPU datacentres and crap like azure, onedrive, entra, google driove, spotify, netflicks are shit and fucking retarded though. I find it wierd watching [people go on about 5090s witha poxy 32MB on them, like four v100s on a 4way nvlink board can have easily 20000 cuda cores and 128GB of much muich faster vram, by two A100s have 160GB of NVRAM. Consumer wise a 3060 12GB or 5060ti 16GB or whatever is fine. If you want local AI shit use non concumer GPUs. Start lookling at A100s they are all about to get decomissioned. A V100 16GB is about the same as a 3080 and tehy cost very little. Normies /v/egaymes and retards will get filtered by the setups but that's also cool. I'm temped to pput ARGB fans on my 4 way v100 32GB board just to piss off LED fishtank spaceheater PC 5090 faggots. It outperforms a spark. How this all relates is high end video procesisng is something you can do at home if you care to. Which is nice.

gotta say streaming is actually much better for movies/tv shows/games. if you are constantly getting money for streaming out a movie/tv show/movie, there's more of incentive to maintain/improve it rather than if it's a one and done salethe real issue around streaming is that you don't have services that let you have access to all movies/tv shows/games. other than that, blu-ray players dying is a really great thing for pretty much everyone

It why so many places went all in on NFTs, and now AI. Its popular, someone told them it will make the money, and they went with it. I'm not saying they are doing things maliciously (although I bet a couple people really do want suffering). I think most decisions are made out of indifference. Will it make them money? Okay good, then go for it. Will I destroy the local communities economy? Maybe uproot a couple peoples homes? You don't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs! And those decisions are being rewarded as we build a society and economy that encourages this. It is like death by a thousand paper cuts, which is why everyone is feeling it, including the people making the decisions. We make similar decisions, only our decisions probably impact a lot less people. That said, I think the world is going to shift for the better. You can only milk this cow for so long. Not only is the inflation hurting everyone, there are a lot of people that literally can't contribute. They can't afford to support the system, and this is expected to continue how? Somethings gotta give, and I think a lot of companies are going to learn this the hard way when the AI bubble (inevitably) pops within the next 5 years.
