it declined when the famicom was released. in japan when they transitioned off of the pc98 into regular windows it was a big decline as well. they went from eroge kino to tuning it down and playing it safe
pc recovered in the 90s but then went into terminal decline around the ps3/360 era, crysis was one of the last few games
