imagine a proper RETURN TO FORM

Probably, but I feel like I less they massively both it NV2 is gonna sell well enough to keep them alive for a while longer.

I honestly don't even know how the hell they come back after having seen their last games, it's just mindboggling how extremely boring they are.

They are already gone, in a way.
Sharma forced them to work under Bethesda, which means Todd will have them work on the Fallout/TES mines for the rest of their lives and they will never get to create a game from scratch again

Which is what everyone has always wanted from them anyway

I don't believe it's possible for the modern Fallout IP to fail anymore. Fallout has successfully carved out its own mainstream audience who are nothing short of the perfect specimens for bulk consumption of low quality product en masse.

They made a game about ants or some shit that does well. They'll live.

I'm curious to see how they'll perform working on other people's IP again.
Even the south park game was awesome.

>literally what all of Obsidian's lead devs like Sawyer, Feargus and Boyarsky were begging for for years
So... they failed upwards?

Thinking Fallout will flop is insane. 76 was a success despite a disastrous launch. It wasn't the hit Bethesda was hoping it'd be, and delayed Starfield and TES6 by an extra 3 years to fix since it literally ruined their reputation at launch, but it was still profitable despite everything. Even if Obsidian just copy pastes The Outer Worlds word for word and quest for quest, but puts a Fallout painting over it, it will still sell 5 million in a week and 10 million in a year, and that's lowballing it.

Bioware was closed down as a consequence of heavy debt financing from the Saudi's on the EA deal. And high-budget AAA RPGs have larger overheads and tighter profit margins (Even when successful) than annual SAAS soccer slop.

The situation with Obsidian is different. Might they get closed down after NV2, they might not. Microsoft doesn't really have any imperative to do so like the Saudis do, though.
