That's not even true, and the only place that applies to is 4chan. When you use other sites, you can just block anyone you don't like. That means people who use 4chan will have this idea that it's a really negative community, only because there's no way to stop the negativity.
When you play World of Warcraft, for example, you can just /ignore anyone you don't like, and that means regardless of what the community is actually like, it'll seem really positive. The very design of 4chan is such that it would draw all the crazy people and all the negative people. Everywhere else, they would just get blocked, and they wouldn't even exist.
