What puzzlers have you beatened?

For me

Currently in the end game of Witness and unlocked most of the main island in Baba is You

I also got what I feel like is pretty far in Shove it! I think it was like level 19 or 21 or something. Back when I was a kid of course

>>
>>750170813

does the professor layton series counts as puzzles games? I guess only those
>>
>>750170813
World of goo 2 has essentially the entire first chapter be too easy and after that the levels are just annoying rather than hard

Crayon physics deluxe was a good one but very short

>>
>>750173559
It isn't a roguelike. You're on a timer and reset back to your starting point at the end of it, but since everything you unlock is knowledge based, you don't lose much progress. There's also checkpoints.

puzzles like this with a lot of objects are usually surprisingly easy.

When I get a "big star" puzzle that only has like 2 objects in it that's when I know I'm in for some crazy bullshit

>>
>>750173798
I liked La Mulana a lot more than 2. In La Mulana, it felt like there were all sorts of different puzzles and gimmicks, but in 2 it felt like 90% of all the puzzles were just "find a totem password" and then "input the totem password at the correct location". Really boring and lame.
>>
>>750173737
>When I get a "big star" puzzle that only has like 2 objects in it that's when I know I'm in for some crazy bullshit
Those are my favorite because it's all about pure intelligence since your working memory is not challenged at all and it doesnt matter how distractable you are.

Somebody posted a level in Baba that filtered them which was a great example of this.

the Mantras also sucked and were the worst part of La Mulana, but they just felt more central in the sequel, like the whole game revolved around them.

It's definitely hard enough that I only solve a few puzzles per session. It's very clear with such games when your brain is done and you might as well take a break since you're not solving SHIT after a certain point in a session

honestly I kinda called this mechanic as soon as I first saw the map but still it's cool to have gotten there

Baba has such a fun concept, but it rapidly devolves into "solution requires you to do specific unusual thing that they game never showed you was even possible"

Well I beat all 50 stages of the Famicom Lode Runner, and now I'm playing through Wrecking Crew. I'm on Stage 50 of that game, but it has 100 stages total, so I'm only halfway. Stage 50 is actually really difficult, I know how to do it but I just can't execute it, especially with the fireballs appearing at the worst times.

I feel like they've been discussed to death and just devolve into Soulja Boy and Phil Fish memes. Fez is neat though, I like how it provided the rosetta stone via the quick fox room.
>>
>>750177768
Anyway my thoughts on Lode Runner is that it's really fucking fun and clever, puzzles have interesting solutions while the robots allow for dynamism and replayability.
My thoughts on Wrecking Crew: Also good, but more rigid. Some puzzles have a very specific set of actions you must perform perfectly, and some puzzles are more open-ended but more annoyingly long with way too many multi-hit walls. But it is fun. Also the music and sound effects are probably some of the best on the whole system, at least without expansion audio.

It’s a mix of metroidvania elements. You solve a set of puzzles, get a new skill, then use your skills to solve harder puzzles and unlock even more skills. There are paths locked behind specific skills just like in a metroidvania. There are no enemies to fight though, it’s all puzzles.

There should be a sub-genre of puzzle for actual hardcore puzzles.

Stuff like Portal is just theatrics to someone of my intellect.

I enjoy things like Baba Is You and Spacechem, but it's hard to find more games like that. Any recommendations?
>>
>>750181079
I really don't want to call you dumb, but getting filtered on base Talos Principle games (DLC can be tricky) plus everything else is baffling to me. You might just need more experience, Chants of Sennaar is similar to the games you got stuck on but a lot easier for instance. Though it does have some (very short) annoying stealth sequences.

Mist (i don't like meta puzzles)

I can only manage about 2 - 3 hours per day at most for any Sokoban game. Any longer and my brain hurts. Because its lots of smaller puzzles its perfect for this.

Yeah big puzzles are a lot more of just checking what's working where

It's always either Many elements +Simple steps or vice versa
>>

Other than being abit short The Room games are great, they are among the highest rated puzzle games on steam for a reason.

Pretentious maybe, but that game is anything other than boring. Fantastic atmosphere, strong story, great puzzles, healthy difficulty curve, bonus challenges, even the occasional secret.

Is Lorelei and the Laser Eyes good? Currently deciding whether to buy it on sale or Order of the Sinking Star.

>>750182180
Yes. Lorelei is what happens when an autistic art-core developer decides to make a puzzle game (this is a complement).
Everything fits together beautifully, but actually cracking it open takes a fair bit of slow exploration and puzzle solving.
There's no big grandiose overarching mega puzzles or insane mechanics to learn, it's mostly just exploration, deduction, and simple puzzles, like this one.
If all you care about is the puzzle and not so much its presentation or any other elements of a game, Sinking Star is better, but Lorelei is really fucking good.
Overall, it was my GOTY '24.
>>
>>750182180
It's okay, but I didn't like how much of the puzzles boiled down to "sift through piles of garbage data to find the password and then input the password", which is the absolute lowest form of puzzle

I feel like puzzle games fall into two camps:

1.Rule driven depth:
Give me a solid set of rules and mechanics, then go all in on exploring every permutation of them

Pure experimentation:
Just let me tinker around until things click, with every puzzle introducing something totally new mechanically

Lorelei starta off really good. It unfortunately suffered from a couple poor progession issues that I think made the second half of the game annoying. It introduces some puzzles too early yet gives you cryptic enough hints where its u clear if you can solve them yet.
However, it also has good puzzles and the solutions to the puzzles have a meaning beyond simply solving them. The very last 'puzzle' of the game is kino and almost makes up for some of its flaws. It is worth playing if you like puzzle games.

I love Baba Is You, yet I haven't beat it yet. It is a favorite of mine.
Gorogoa is great and short.
Machinarium is a good one.
Portal 1 and 2 like you said are good.
Monster Expedition is good.
Void Stranger is one of my favorites, but I think it has a niche appeal.
EDGE is fun, more of a speed game than puzzle game.
Toki Tori is fantastic, one of the best puzzle games out there imo. I haven't played Toki Tori 2 but I heard its great as well.
Moncage is alright. Its clever, but in its cleverness I think it makes things unintentionally unclear. That or I am dumb. Probably a mix of both.
Cypher is good for the most part, except I hated that it gives you red herrings for some puzzles. That is my number two pet peeve for puzzle games.
My number one pet peeve is when a puzzle doesn't make sense and/or breaks previously established rules like Cairo does. Cairo has a wonderful atmosphere but the puzzles themselves are weak and sometimes complete nonsense.

I just unlocked my first Last Inflator last night and got The Cure. I saw a vision of hell shortly after in the form of a level 807 bird on the second screen with 5.4 million HP and 6 digit stats, and figured I'll fuck with that mess way later.
