The story was in flux between different versions of writer leadership.The deus ex girl left December last year, so her version of the story isn't even active anymore. Before then, it was done by a few people from the ME3 team, some of which got fired before Veilguard came out, which was probably closer to the original teaser we saw with more of the old vibes in it, and strange emphasis on Earth.I think they wanted to test reactions by leaking the merchandize with the "erroneous" description about Earth and the dead femshep toy, and saw that people responded negatively to all of it, and a lot of Andromeda-lovers on Reddit saying "no more Shepard" so it gradually shifted vibe, and got other writers involved as the old ones quit, and it became more of a straight up post Andromeda reboot thing, with the agent in the trench coat and all that.

Jay, anyway. He wasn't a really great writer and Anthem's extremely "first draft" main plot is largely his fault. He wrote some OK parts on ME3 like the Sanctuary level, all of Miranda's dialogue in that game and Citadel DLC, and Grunt's level but for me they were all hit or miss, especially the Rachni thing, and you can just tell he didn't write on the first 2 games. John Dombrow worked on the most beloved parts of ME3 and he ended up writing Ghosts of Yotei immediately after leaving BioWare. Ultimately he was dragooned into Dragon Age Veilguard as a writer because it needed the extra hands while Mass Effect wasn't progressing fast enough to justify the amount of people working on pre-production on it, within EA, so he wrote Davrik and got laid off along other Veilguard dudes in 2023.By this point they had already adjusted ME5's progress with other creatives and it just started to become something else, which turned into that 2023 teaser with the trenchcoat.I assume this has then progressed with the Deus Ex lady until she quit last year.
