Post common game mechanics you fucking HATE
>>
>>750179037
When all the enemies scale to the player's level in an RPG. This one should be obvious, since it defeats the whole point of having a level mechanic in the first place, but it's still really annoying to know that your levels don't matter since the enemies are going to keep getting stronger as well.

Even good games like Final Fantasy 8 and South Park: The Stick of Truth are guilty of this. Mostly FF8, because the optimal strategy to become OP is to NEVER level up through the whole game. The only reasons to level up are the few optional bosses that are at fixed levels like Omega Weapon being at level 100 no matter what.

Any mechanic in fighting games that punish the player for blocking (e.g. RISC from Guilty Gear, where blocking too much makes it so you'll probably explode when you eventually get opened up) but ESPECIALLY burnout mechanics where blocking too much puts you in a debuff state, often one so debilitating that entering it might lose you the round then and there. Street Fighter 6, City of the Wolves, even that Avatar fighting game has it although it's hard to get put into burnout from blocking alone in that one. Burnout mechanics encourage mashing like a retard and punish defensive play, which limits player expression, and because SF6 was such a massive success we're gonna see it in half of all fighting games made in the next 10+ years

Fall damage is the fucking worst especially if it only exists to hinder (you) and nobody else in the world

>weapons have durability
fine whatever, even good if the game has a strong a varied items and consumables
>secret ultra unlock weapon has durability
FUUUUUUUUUUUUCK
>>
>>750179037
I'll be honest, I have no strong opinions on weapon durability.
In theory it at least tries to get you to use different weapons, in practice you're either just spamming repair on the one weapon anyway, or it's those Zelda games where you just pop off to the "every enemy drops a decent weapon" area to farm a backpack full of the same weapon for the next stretch of the game.

whats wrong ith parrying? it requires skill and is fun

Fall damage should only happen to non white characters.

>crafting "system" is just a recipe list
thanks niggers now my inventory is flooded with 200 pieces of iron scrap and pocket lint that I picked up from the world and quest ""rewards""
>>
>puzzles
pls stop putting puzzles in non-puzzle games. does every single crpg need to have a dozen? they're never any good or any fun to complete, and they're usually nonsensical in context and immersion breaking
>>
>>750179037
Far Cry 2 durability is retarded as fuck. Lost interest in that game after a gun keeps breaking the same time during the same firefight. It's like a scripted durability break.
>>
Weight mechanics but only for inventory, it's okay when it's for your current equipment
Non instantaneous turning for third person games, kind of understandable if it's for the sake of tank controls but that's rare even in survival horrors nowadays
>>
Durability mechanics are a sign of ludokino and they filter retards that should be "playing" gacha and movie games instead. Cope and sneethe.

The one area where I think simplification helps a ton
Unless your game is 100% crafting focused (like factorio), just relegate any crafting materials to very generic categories and call it good.
For instance, if your game has weapon crafting, just have:
>Weapon Scraps (Junk)
>Weapon Scraps (Normal)
>Weapon Scraps (Good)
>Weapon Scraps (Excellent)
and then balance recipe costs around the rarity of the crafted item versus the rarity of the scraps needed. Don't fucking bloat it with anything else (hell you could probably reduce this little list even smaller if crafting is a non-focus in the game).

stamina and skill cooldowns

I've never had any problem with wep durability in BOTW/TOTK because the whole game is balanced around it and you're constantly showered with new ones

can be alright depending on the game.
its terrible in the ubislop zelda though.

>>750181037
yeah people say that the current cancer is neutral skip plus on block engagement mechanics, but the actual near universal shit mechanic thats everywhere now is burnout.
there's straight up nothing good about it. tying so many mechanics to it sucks too and its retarded to give people a whole tard bar at round start to ape out with.

god I hate SF6.

Stealth when used in a non-stealth game.
The AI is either going to be brain dead so that you can sneak by quickly, or the moment you step out of line it's game over. There's no in-between.
>>
>>750186547
Honestly when the former "completely nonfunctional just run by them" AI shows up, I breathe a sigh of relief. It might be lame but at least it's not annoying.

Durability gives the economy a reason to exist and gives blueprints with better durability:resource ratios a reason to exist. Gathering, crafting, and trading are *the* what to do besides combat.
>>
>>750191050
i prefer the weapon sharpening method of durability.
>weapons dont break
>you can sharpen/enhance weapons
>the enhancement/sharpening is what degrades with use
>reverts to default weapon damage when the sharpening/enhancement wears off
>>
>>750192013
This only makes enhancing mandatory to do any damage. When everything's enhanced, nothing is.
>>
>>750179037
The problem is durability in games doesn't have much rhyme or reason. It's obviously implemented as a system to limit players from just going all willy nilly with their weapons and attacks, but its poorly implemented.
A good system would be the degradation of the weapon is directly related to how well the player uses/performs with it.
You make precisely timed and accurate strikes with your sword? The durability barely decreases.
Button mash and swing it wildly, hitting anything and everything in your path? The durability tanks as punishment for your carelessness.
The same could be used for guns as well.
As long as all your shots are well placed and you aren't spraying and praying, the durability doesn't drop.
