Not better graphics. Not "fix the bugs.". No performance shit. One specific design decision that held the entire game back.

I'll start: Elden Ring.

The exploration, atmosphere, sense of discovery, enemy designs, everything was top tier. Then you reach the later areas and realize just how much content is being recycled. Repeated bosses, reused enemies, copy-pasted dungeons. The game would've genuinely benefited from being 20% shorter.

I'd rather have 60 hours of incredible content than 100 hours where the last 40 slowly dilute everything that made the first 60 special.

>just skip the optional content
fuck you

I think a lot of modern games have this problem. Developers are so obsessed with making games bigger that they forget to make them consistently good. I think it might be a japanese thing as a lot of japanese games just have one final area where you just fight all the enemies in the game or it's just one big gauntlet instead of a realy area.

So what's YOUR example?

One game. One change. No complete overhauls or something like how a game runs.

Bonus points if it's a game you genuinely love rather than something you already hate.

new world
i'll give you 3 things:
1. simpler gear & stat system. There was so much variation per item, from stats to attributes, that it became a clusterfuck to figure out. The only people who knew what was "good" gear were theory crafters using literal spreadsheets and shit. I think they did this to give players the feeling of back in the day when nobody knew anything, but this is a horrible way to try to achieve that. They should have copied runescapes gear system.
2. single unified marketplace. The idea of each town having its own marketplace and each item being their own entry seemed cool. Like you could play as a mercher and find good deals and move between markets, but in reality it just added a shit ton of friction & unknowns to 99% of the player base who didn't want to engage in that shit. It also made it impossible to know the worth of many items especially the gear due to the aforementioned. They should have copied runescapes GE system.
3. account locked to servers. This is one of those things that everybody copied from wow, but its just fucking retarded. Every MMO should be ONE single shared economy & game world, with shards you can manually hop to like "worlds" in runescape.

In short they should have just copied from runescape instead of world of warcraft - but otherwise kept most of the systems & assets and it would have been a massive success. Now its dead. Learn your lesson and copy from runescape. I say this to every upcoming wow clone out there.

Pokémon: Make double battles the default.
Single battles are FUCKING BORING. The only Pokémon game I ever finished was Gale of Darkness.

Wind Waker needed under water hyrule to be finished instead of creator of Mario’s retarded schizophrenia of deadlines. Now it’s forever bad. Hope it was worth it

Paper Mario 64
Chapter 6 (Flower Fields)
The level design needs to be redone to not be so hallway-esque and filled with backtracking. I get what they were going for by fixing the life of each flower before destroying the Puff Puff Machine but having the entire chapter be a hub that leads to each flower's area at the end of each linear point is quite dull and repetitive quickly. It really needed some proper platforming and bigger rooms for exploration to some degree, the closest room it has going for the chapter is the ground pounding puzzle. Maybe expand the upper cloud area too, it's a completely unique area but only 2 rooms long for the boss.
Overall I feel the game is extremely consistent in it's chapter quality but Flower Fields was always one that felt lesser than the others due to these choices. The only bright side is the spin dash at least making it quicker and slightly more enjoyable just due to the basic action of controlling Mario with said ability being fun to do.

Dark Souls 2
Only thing From Software needed to change was to make it a GOOD game

>Twilight Princess
>Difficulty tuning. Enemies should hit harder and have less passive AI
And no, TP's opening hours don't bother me.
