Is The Wire enjoyable if you hate cop stuff? I watch shows like this together with my mum and she absolutely hates cop/detective stuff unless it only plays a relatively small part like Hank in Breaking Bad

There's not really a mystery at play, when the plot introduces a crime you typically have both sides already.There are some moments where there's a puzzle that the detectives solve but it's focused less on the mystery and more on what the cops do around it.Super early example is when they're doing surveillance on a gangster and they use a tennis ball as a shell to put a listening device inside, only for it to get launched away losing them an expensive piece of equipment and that ends up being important and central as a plot point to those two cops than any other real work.The first season is so good that you should atleast try it with her and if it's something she'd be into.

It's kind of how Fight Club and the beginning of the Matrix don't hold up as well as they used to -- because people complaining about their steady office jobs where they own their own homes and live comfortably is fucking retarded when viewed through the lens of today.Six Feet Under is the same -- it's a bunch of spoiled Californians whining about their daddy issues.Sopranos is superior because, while it is exactly the same thing -- very petty people quibbling over their comfortable lifestyles -- it has a self-awareness about it, and leans into the comedic elements. It knows that these people are petty fucking idiots, vindictive and nasty, whereas Six Feet Under would treat the same characters as heroic.
