>>
Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor is better
>>
GSG raped it

How? They specifically created new game to rape it instead.

i dont understand how they fumbled rogue core so bad. The overall high level concept was a perfectly great idea. Every single element of the game came out as a horrible idea, execution entirely aside. What the fuck were they thinking? No shields? Exclusively linear levels where destruction and mobility barely matter???
Did the original designers of GSG leave the team or what?
>>
>>750201536
they saw """""rogue""""""-"""""likes"""""" doing well for years while drg was still fresh and just wanted to cash in on the genre while not putting much thought into it. swedes are retarded always
>>
Is DRG roguelite?
>>
>>750201416
Ghost Ship Games is not going back to work on Deep Rock Galactic. They are still working on Rogue Core. Invisible Walls has been contracted to work on Deep Rock Galactic after Rogue Core's failure. Ghost Ship Games has nothing to do with Season 7, 8, or the paid expansion.

>>
>>750201536
They were told time and time again during the many playtests about the shit people hated AND STILL decided "nah it is the players who are wrong" all the way until early access launched

yeah i guess my information wasnt perfect sorry for not googling everything gsg is up to right now its not exactly my biggest concern
>>
>>750200285
It was good for like 4 hours but its way too grindy even for a survivors clone, it shouldn't take 2-4 rounds at hazard 2 for a piddly little upgrade that does nothing
>>
>>750202487
It's basically whatever you consider Helldivers 2 to be. An extraction shooter/puzzler with little risk?

No, it's session based co-op shooter with elements of job simulator. It's super fun to work together under pressure. DRG has some progression rewards for people needed a "reason" to play, but they are kept to a minimum.

Rogue Core is like a MOBA. The time investment to clear a dive is very long and a basic bitch mistake will spell the wipe of your entire team.
Did you trigger the event where you need everyone to stand near a beacon for 45s? Have fun, here's an infinite wave of shitmons that will rape you because you'll run out of hp/ammo before it's over. Oh you have two teammates too far away? Well you'll wipe even faster.
All the dead time in the game where you run from spawn picking weapons and nades and all the cumulative time wasted for everyone to fight over upgrades later on a dive. I think it legit must be about 10minutes of wasted time for a 45ish minute of 4-5 levels.
A game designed where you get no dopamine when you win but you get all the frustration when you lose. Bravo GSG.

I play with my bud in burst of a few hours where we just do like 10 missions in a row. It's so hilarious to me when we finish a mission, everyone says ggs then leaves. We queue the next one and it's the same fucking dude joining.
This assignment system is an absolute failure in trying to get randos to stick to the same lobbies it's baffling it's been in the game for so long.

man half the fun in DRG is trying to recover after the driller managed to C4 himself while trying to rez the scout on some godforsaken ledge in the middle of bugtopia - and pulling it off. sometimes.
>>
After like 6+ years on gamepass they're coming off gamepass. Wtf.

Why? Did their other shit flop SO HARD there going to force people to buy DRG now of all times? I've never seen a company crawl back to the original game and fans so hard as these faggots. Makes me not want to support them
>>
>>750206702
same way I'm magnetically attracted to the resupply pod as it lands on me
>>
>>750207146
I could count on my hand the amount of time where we recovered from failures in rogue core. I've played about 70hrs so I gave it a good try but man. If you lose 2 players when taking the elevator, in the next level you'll need to rescue them from a nest of bugs. When you pop the eggs you get instantly swarmed with more bugs not even the guardian's aoe shield can help your getting a quick revive and clear the horde.
It's just such a badly designed game It's mind boggling.
>>
>>750202638
this is clearly not a bad thing, S6 was outsourced and is pretty good, RC was made by GSG proper and is dogshit
you can disagree with me on this but there's a better chance that literally anyone else would do a better job at DRG since the original devs seem to hate it now

It's without question the best vidya purchase I have ever made. Not just in the amount of hours it's given me, but also in the feelings, community, and simple fun too. It quickly became my most played game of all time and despite the fact I don't play it as much nowadays, it'll probably stay at my #1 for forever.

Absolutely incredible game. Only devs I've bought cosmetic packs to support. They really deserve it, especially for how cheap they put the game on sale for like 8+ times a year.
>>
>>750209671
It's actually kind of funny how they came announcing an update for DRG out of the fucking blue. With shit that's been requested for years. That they ignored. Because they were circlejerking Rogue Core. Whick sucks. And people beta-testing told them it sucks. Which they also continued to ignore. Fucking Danes

>>750210406
>It's always known that DRG is getting more updates kek.
Work that they outsourced after years of content drought and very samey Seasons that were rather divisive at times in both quality and design
Though I have to admit, that the studio that they outsourced Season 6 did a pretty damn good job. Ossuary Depths is easily my favourite biome now
>Valid point but doesn't that only apply for the perk rework?
And paintjobs and frameworks for utility tools. And more cosmetics options
More overclocks goes without saying, that should've been mandatory for every update
>>
What would (you) add to DRG for a big update? Or even a DRG 2? Besides obviously a fourth weapon option for each class weapon slot. Personally I think Rogue Core went in the wrong direction. I get "more fighting" and "roguelike" is probably what the metrics were telling them, but IMO DRG works best when it leans into the work sim aspects of the game. The combat is fun but it's more fun because I'm down there working on a psuedo oil drilling platform with my fellow roughnecks trying to make a living.

I think a new game or expansion should focus on bigger operations, like you're sent down to a part of the planet with no infrastructure and you actually have to build a mining base. Everyone can build but class specializations help with certain niches. Driller needs to clear a big area, Engineer needs to set up industrial sized automated defenses. Gunner has to go out and destroy rampaging bugs that will fuck up your base if allowed to get close. Scout... I guess keeps everything lit? I don't know we'll find something for him to do.
>>

Campaign expansions. Mix procedural generation with static set pieces a la Daggerfall, with a dash of more story focus, separate progression and/or systems, maybe things like changing loadout mid-mission with a call-in power, being able to mix weapons like having two primaries at once, maybe even more RPG stuff like character stats to change and customise during the campaign, etc.
Real-time, objective-bound but functionally infinite procedural generation type of missions where you have to keep on the move while everything behind you gets blocked either by bed rock cave-ins, gas, or whatever mechanic that would allow for this kind of map generation

>A game designed where you get no dopamine when you win but you get all the frustration when you lose.
a think a recurring problem holding action games back is the notion and acceptance that losing = less fun
Dont get me wrong, im not advocating for a baby easy game where losing and winning doesnt matter. but look at ULTRAKILL. Its lategame levels and content are harder than 99.99% of games discussed in this board. But in that game, taking damage is kind of fun. And dying 50 times to a hidden superboss in that game is not just considered way more fun and way less frustrating than dying 50 times in the average game. It is the expected norm, and something the player outright WANTS for the sake of their own entertainment.

Now behold the image, a prime example of a system whose sole purpose is making "taking damage" and "losing" more annoying and unfun in 99% the games that feature it, because their game would have been better with another more fitting healing mechanic.

4 man team everybody has a role to play and can help each other out or has synergizes with each other. E.g Most basic Engine shoots platforms, scout can mine from those platforms. Removing the problem of the engie having to platform up, and the scout risking the fall damage. (a good engie shoots a platform under the roof platform if the scout falls)
Every mission is like this, liquid morkite? Scout finds the holes, driller goes to town. Besty time? Engie covers her, gunner builds long lines for easy fueling.

Everyone is rewarded the same as long as ONE dwarf makes it back.
Driller and scout being the easiest boys.
Encourages at least 2 have some fun while one remains behind.

They just need to fix the host disconnect or bail out issue, rouge core actually does this right with rewarding you if the host is a dumbass and just cuts his network connection.

thats not the problem
the problem is that hiring artists is relatively easier. can they match the style and are they familiar with the tools? they are good to go.
They usually have different artists for different purposes too so theres little struggle.

With programmers its kind of hard. Hiring a new programmer means months of them probing around and the existing programmers explaining shit to them before they can actually add much. When youre on the clock to deliver a big content update within X months thats kind of a big problem.

this is not true at all
The levels in DRG are made out of handmade prefabs/tiles that get put together in order, with some freeform generation for stitching them together
These prefabs and tiles are made out of the existing assets
As a result its no different from a game where levels are made out of assets.
>that under 1mb meme game
completely different story, nothing comparable and impossible to reproduce for a game with 1/5 the scope of drg

The real reason is just low poly and good optimization

>>
>>750222013
I would make it some specific thing that cannot be selected for normal missions because otherwise it wouldnt fit the game and ruin the 4 players - 4 classes dynamic

Id make it a playable robot or drone of sorts. Different movement on treads or something with acceleration, very different balance on hp/shields/healing, doesnt play like a normal dwarf and not for normal gameplay. Also fatter hitbox that makes it harder to dodge, so shielding and tanking is more meaningful
>>
>>750222013
>>750223085
Actually no, fuck that.
The 5th dwarf is mission control. Someone can play as MC overseeing the missions, recommending strategies, selecting the drop locations for certain interactables, and etc.

I really like how each biome has it's own distinct room "styles", for ex. the sand biome (I forgot its name) has distinct expansive, open, sand blasted caves/rooms
>>
>>750223225
theres no way you havent noticed some common recurring styles of rooms. Like a huge large corridor with a massive cylinder shaped bridge stretching out from one end to the other. Or a small circular room with 99999 thin pole rock formations. Or that one vertical chasm with the looping dirt paths around it.

>There are over 100 cave room templates to pick from -- but many of these templates also contain multiple internal 'randomizer' variants, so spawning the same template 20 different times would still produce 20 unique rooms.
So yes there's basically "styles" but the style still has randomization inside it, so only very few setpieces can truly be identical.

When I was talking about setpieces I mean't like in path of exile where after you see some prop in some place you can tell if the next quest is more to the south or more to the west or some shit because it's strictly just fixed setpieces.

Room with the raised + ridge running through it

Giant cavern with ridges overhead

Refinery that's a single medium sized room but there's a raised ridge running through half the map with two wells on the other side

Room with a giant hole in the middle filled with tall towers

Large cavern with a cliff at both ends and valley between them filled with circular chunks of terrain

Extraction where there's a hallway like gorge that also has tunnels leading to a larger room

Extraction where the map is on a slope with the mine head in the middle and there's a ridge running around the low valley part and a small cavern room at the top of the slope where the drop pod almost always lands

Extraction where the minehead lands on top of a cliff with caverns underneath it and one medium sized room immediately off the side of it with a single large pillar toward the back of it

Escort room where it looks like it's tiny and empty but there's a hole in the roof and up there is a small circular ridge where all the resources in room actually spawned

True answer?
It was a flawed concept.
You want a roguelike because you want crazy build and bonky escalation
They wanted to still keep "classes", a fundamentally opposite concept of roguelikes.
You want a BIT of that, not the whole pie
Which resulted on 90% of the random items that comes with the genre to be stupid number game ones "up this thing by x number" "up this other thing by x number"
Overclocks in DRG felt a million times more roguelike than RC, you actually change the playstyle with them

if the way it worked was like dropping in with an unupgraded set of weapons which unlock the tiered mods as you went in terms of powerscaling, with a final upgrade being a hugely transformative overclock would have been a better way to establish growth.
The DRG board game works exactly like this where you mine gold to acquire enough for upgrades like how the expinite in RC was meant to be
if anything their mistake was not giving the players a limited number of upgrades to acquire rather than chasing small incremental stat improvements

IRC the mission gets pretty much laggy as fuck if it goes more than 2 hours. I recall testing it with on-site refining once but I assume the issue there was the terrain removed via drilling.
