SUBMISSIONS ARE NOW CLOSED!
Right now we need organization done very quickly, feedback on album orders or the stream anon's posts is important, and double checking stuff like that lyric timings aren't mixed up is critical for a smooth stream. You can make videos for the songs that are already made! You can also help organize the order songs will play on the stream in the temp sheet page.

Do we need to mention differences between the temp and final sheet? Such as missing song art, or old mixes? Or is that handled in the background already?

friend made a tool that gets (most) of the lyrics from the timed lyrics column in the sheet and makes the lrc files. It introduces some newlines and as a result the lyrics are a lot more spaced out. How do people feel about the way these lyrics look with regards to the spaces? ( ignore the colors and stuff I'm trying to manually make outlines for the text)

Next time we need someone that knows how to read to make the OP so /v/ actually knows we're streaming. We really should try to get through this thread quickly even without much to talk about because we need the hype thread to actually get people aware.
>>
>>750206172
Baking isn't for everyone, you need talented bakers. It's why /vg/ has dedicated ones.
>>
>>750206031
You're the problem for failing to write better, sing better, or do anything but complain.
>>

Poe song has a clear winner despite rigging.
Anonika stepped down on the other one last thread.

There's nothing else to decide.
>>
>>750206172
It's time to drop all the baits and also reply to all baits?
>>
>>750206172
In my sagely wisdom,
I think we should let this thread die naturally without bumps (this post won't bump) and then make a new one with the stream date/info as the OP image.
>>
>>750206150
I wanted to get thoughts on it since some people might actually like it? If people were indifferent/liked it wouldn't want to ask him to do more than he did already.

>>

He didn't step down, but I think his prerequisite has been met since there's no actual way to determine who rigged harder in a tied poll.

Will Anon Goes On /v/ be played twice in the stream, once in the album slot and once in the video?
Or will we just play the video on top of the song and avoid repeating?

Last year cheated its way around this problem with Still Around since it was the very last song in the year, but sadly we can't ignore it this time.

Anonika stepping down despite being the rightful winner is admirable.
Kiwi and Phaseroll could learn from this.

We should remove all songs that have been written/sung/edited by a namefag because this is /v/ The Musical and not Namefag The Musical.

Overlay the video on it, we did similar enough with the What Is Love parody by overlaying the gif for it. We're going to be there all day, no need to play 1 song twice when one is just video-less imo.

Yes and Anonika is stepping down despite being the better choice, to give someone new a chance.
Which is what Kiwi should do, especially when people in thread like the singing and emotion of the other version.

I'm conflicted on you guys posting this shit.
On the one hand, yes it is better that it is public and available.
On the other hand I do not want think it is a good idea to have the discord at all.
>we don't talk about the musical there!
ok then why is it necessary? How are you verifying that? It is not difficult to right click a user and DM them.
If you want to have friends from outside the musical, then do that. But I don't think you need a place for it.
>>

IRC is dead. Stop being a retard that thinks “Discord = bad”, and just grow up. It’s used by tons of different projects here.

>"huh? why?"
It's because dragging songs around in foobar is a lot more convenient than using the web player, and it makes it possible to tag singfags without drawing attention to it. That's why.
>>

>>750210191
>how many of you are actually planning on even being awake 14 hours in when we get to videos?
I am. Anyone who's not is weak.
>>
>>750210287
the primary reason is that most people nope out before the videos because the albums are exceedingly long and literally not even an all day event, an all day and all night and into the next morning event. but I don't really care that much, all I can actually say is that if the video isn't played during the albums I'm unlikely to see it because "the albums are over" time is my "I need to eat a proper hearty meal asap because I haven't had anything but snacks today and I want to be there for original DLC" time. if people want it separate, that's how it is.

Another thing, as I kinda said before, is that I think that people are (generally) more likely to see them during the albums and seeing videos I'm hoping inspires more videos to be made?
EITHER WAY, I'm flexible, I can do whatever people think is best. I'm not opposed to playing anon goes on v a second time, oh no 4 minutes to show off a great video to more people.

I think we should play the videos before the albums so that they're front and center to inspire more videofags. Hearing the songs again isn't a big deal but getting more videofags is.There are at least two anons working on videos here as well.
>>
>>750213710
if I jumped on it, it wouldn't be rough around the edges but simply unfinished. I respect the legacy of the OG ones too much to make a shitty sequel. I already picked the song I would do first after considering a handful of options.

>song art
needs to be in the art folder
>old mixes
newest mixes need to be in the finished tab, I'm never going to download from a temp sheet cause then I can't get anything done in advance and that's stupid. if the links are different I'll check the upload date on gofiles. if they're catbox links then lol good luck, best I can do is scanning the last 2 threads cause i don't know if sheetfags were on top of them. maybe an archive search, i don't know.

>edit after deadline discussion in the last thread
I don't know why editing is used as a reason for not being able to order songs, it's very clear what songs will be on the album within 2 days of the main deadline. just use place holders or don't be busy/have a life, how dare you

that said, I think a rule that working demos be required for the edit tab might help? if deadline passes and a song is just vocals that can't even be slapped on an instrumental within a few hours, then dlc it. something like that. but editing shouldn't be delaying any process, this is stupid. I can plug in new mixes just fine but nothing else should be slowed tf
>>
>>750217125
>finished sheet
I see, looks like someone has been moving stuff there just fine. I'm worried over nothing
>>
>>750217125
The main issue is needing to do editing before death battle polls before album art polls before opener polls. If editing is done by the 16th we can start polling immediately.
>if deadline passes and a song is just vocals that can't even be slapped on an instrumental within a few hours
This might be a good rule. If you can just drop the vocals into a template and produce a good result then it gets in, but if it requires more then it's dlc. In other words, you can do mixing post deadline but not editing.
>>750217286
It's still a good idea to double check that the finished sheet has the right links, some things may have been missed.
>>
>>750217503
>It's still a good idea to double check that the finished sheet has the right links, some things may have been missed.
this. I'm sure a lot of the shit people dropped in the temp sheet never got moved. ideally someone should just do a top to bottom check on the temp sheet and if anything doesn't match they try and see which is actually the newer one and make sure it ends up on finished.

>death battle poll
shouldn't affect sorting much, deathbattle already implies an established finished song that can be sorted
>opener polls
unmixed vocals shouldn't be considered for openers
>album art polls
yeah, sorting should start after album art polls. which are unaffected by after deadline edits
>>

A reminder, fancy mixes have never been required. Vocals on instrumental are all we need, so if that can't be easily produced by say the end of the 16th, then vocals should go to dlc. That would be one day of determining what is viable in the sheet. How about this?

Give opinions and I'll make it law for next year or not depending.
>>
>>750218318
Or 2 days might be better? But reply to this. I'd also like to hear from the people who have been mixing the last minute takes.
>>
>>750218318
I think it's fine to have some of that shit still coming in, but just run the polls based on information that we have, is it AS fair? maybe not but also you had the same deadline and shit. I think another thing (though it is VERY annoying) is to move away from having all of the polls necessarily at the same time.
>>
>>750217912
We also allowed album art submissions several days after deadline, which slowed things down.
>>
>>750218437
>just run the polls based on information that we have, is it AS fair?
yeah. I don't understand what the actual issue is honestly. I get we lost a day to 4chan shutting down, but were edits actually a big deal? I don't have patience for this lmao so nevermind law bullshit, but we need to encourage working demos

>>750218519
let's not do that again then, problem solved
>>
>>750218937
The only issue, imo, were those last minute DBs. Way too late. I don't think the editing slowed us down anymore than we already were, desu. It's not reasonable to expect the entire musical to have been ready last weekend. So the 24th, tomorrow, is the soonest we can do it. Will be the same next year regardless of any editing cutoffs.
>>
>>750219189
The last minute DBs wouldn't have actually slowed anything down unless swapping two files locations which takes what, a minute, is a slowdown.
>>
>>750219189
>I don't think the editing slowed us down anymore than we already were, desu.
I agree. It was the lack of progressing under the idea that we had to wait for editing.
>It's not reasonable to expect the entire musical to have been ready last weekend.
Sure, but it is reasonable to expect the musical to be ready by now.
>>
>>750219254
I think a lot of this is "could haves". We had two last minute DBs, but if we just have an open do we *could* theoretically have more. But I don't think we should just go "Oh, because it could get bad we tighten up the rules." Instead, it should be "No, we're not doing this, stop it" on individual issues because the amount of issues still isn't that long.
>>750219361
Maybe I'm just an optimist but as long as the musical is ready by 1PM tomorrow I don't see any issue with whatever's still going on now.
>>
>>750219189
>I don't think the editing slowed us down anymore than we already were, desu
I don't think so either. I would rather have an extra day with the sorted albums, but I'm willing enough to chalk it up to the site outage. And things look like it'll be fine, but I'll have a better idea of how fine in 2-3 hours.
>>
>>750212617
>Ariaanon
>>
I genuinely think people are overreacting to slowness after the musical like the guardians try and discourage some behaviors (like meta songs, too many of one song, etc) during the musical, and well it's not really nice desu. Once you realize that it's just a preventative and not an actual rule it just feels like power tripping. Eventually someone gets the wrong idea and just gets upset when they didn't have to be.
>>
So album order (not song order) is definitely finalised now? Just wanted to check before I made something.
>>
>>750219990
>I genuinely think people are overreacting to slipping on slopes
Nah bro you right, we should keep the submissions open until Christmas.
>>
>>750220121
Both are finalised.
>>
>>750219990
you're right, for example let it go is it's own thing and not an example of what *should* happen when there's too much of a song. the flower man thing was funky but not a problem. meta songs are gay but also aren't a problem. and we don't have a problem today, just that some things could be better
>>
>>750219990
it's literally the opposite of power tripping if no power is used
>>
>>750220385
>the flower man thing was funky but not a problem
it could have been a much bigger problem instead of just funky if instead of "yuck too many flower mans" people went "hell yeah we all love flower mans I'll make a couple too"
>>
>>750220275
slippery slope is never not a fallacy tho.
>>
>>750220639
Well, I correct myself, almost never.
>>
>>750220482
I'm not convinced this would've actually happened though. Tower Man was DLC'd because it was a vocaloid song not because it was Flower Man.

>>750220743

>>
>>750220276

>>
>>750220806
I mean if you really believe that kind of guardianship works I don't think I'll change your mind, I just think stuff that has claimed to work (like the death of meta songs) happened naturally as a result of the end of the J wars.
>>
>>750220913
people were making meta songs long before then
>>
>>750220482
that's why uhhh the rule is thatt uhhh a singer can only sing one lyric version of a source song, so the condition of it being an issue requires multiple singfags doing a version each. yeah

honestly the idea of 10 different singfags doing the same song with different lyrics amuses me
>>
>>750221029
The bloat of stream time (and the recorder and streamer needing to stay the entire time) isn't amusing tho.
>>
>>750220969
Oh for sure but (most) of them weren't being fought over to get on the albums. We have meta this year in DLC where it belongs.

If anonymous dicksuckers want namefags gone, they can make their own musical, Call in Anon the Musical. If you want to larp you're an amorphous blob and not an individual with an identity, that's fine you're just as mentally ill as troons and people who think they're animals. The fact of the matter is that INDIVIDUALS are what do the musical every year. It's not just something that arises out of the sea of piss and shit that is the modern internet. Namefags aren't asking you to suck their dick, they want to work on something, have their name on it, and leave. If you like it, good. Enjoy it. If you don't like it, fuck off, we're only here one more day. Just because YOU don't have a soul doesn't mean the writers/singers/editors don't. The only people who genuinely feel that being "Anonymous" is somehow morally superior are just fat fucking retards who know they'll never amount to anything more, who still wear the Guy Fawkes mask to conventions (if they can waddle out of their fucking basement) Who's only claim to fame is that they're "Anonymous" They see someone striving for more, and like niggers or crabs, they need to tear it down.

iirc Skyrim had two extremely similar (identical?) songs that were both parodied in vtm2, though one was omitted or put on DLC. either way the song is so similar you'd have a hard time arguing it's a reprise or anything like that. Secret Agent Man is completed in most other spots, it's just that Devo's cover versions are usually weird enough that some years ago you might have been able to convince everyone it's not the same song anymore. that sentiment's changed sincethen though so now it's completed.

I like what I'm working with so far. I think using the UI bar for subtitles looks nice. I tried turning her green but it was ugly as fuck so I like the idea of keeping her fairly regular because the singer did a great job following the original, so the video matches nicely. Perhaps there's something else I could put in there visual-gag wise? Otherwise it's looking pretty reasonable, perhaps if it's not too late I could get it to a slightly better state people would be happy with it alongside the higher effort videos this year so the section isn't so light?

What I'm doing is essentially I have 5 or so musicbee's in OBS and I just crop to the areas we care about. Those cropped ones are higher layers that have *some* opacity, (easily modifiable) and then later on down there's a base one that is fully opaque. I def need to tweak it a little bit but DESU I can do that DURING the stream.
I'm far more concerned with the Musicbee shit because that stuff is far more visible for me to change (theatre mode changes only occur when you exit and re-enter it because FUCK me)

I don't have THAT level of fidelity, at least not without spending a really large amount of time. And even then because there isn't like a "standard" for how people were doing lyrics (like length of a line and such) I would still struggle with some of it.
I can change the opacity, and if people don't like it I can just make it 100 and lyrics will just be 100% protected.
>>
>>750230028
I had an idea to do this while making it but I was worried it wouldn't be obvious enough that the bit on the right is actually a head

Going though my songs on the Finished sheet right now. For Perfect Village, I see there was a "Trimmed" version added, but I don't think the last mix I posted actually needed one unless I'm mistaken? In addition at the very end of the new "trimmed" version there's an audio error where it plays the last line again, so I don't notice any difference in the mixes beyond the new one having an added error

I wrote recorded and did the cover art for this song. It had a very interesting premise so for the /v/h1 behind the autism documentary. You have to have a knowledge of both the conversation around the game based on the threads on release as well as have played the game during release. Normally I don't condone hype beast consumption of games but Silksong was genuinely a game that made me say like a fucking retard idiot
>man I wish they still made games like this in current year
Act 1 and Act 2 and really tight and genuinely fucking great so in the first two verses I focused on the gripes of those who were either not good at games or genuinely fucking skill issuing themselves by not engaging with the game. When I played I played non stop on the steam deck the week of Halloween because I had vacation I literally only put it down to recharge my steamdeck. I was laughing at everyone whining about runbacks. Act 3 is really something you wouldn't find organically unless you played the dog shit out of the game it's also not nearly as good as act 1/2 so I made sure the third verse was a DOG SHIT fucking trash heap compared to the first two verses/acts. Act 3 is all about people jumping on the hype train about hallow knight having never played it nor cared about the series to begin with. I actually saw people playing HK with cheat engine simply because they saw people talking about sinksonk coming out soon.

I did have the joy of finding the naked hornet segment pretty late in act 2 while trying to do everything but I got pissed when I found out after the fact someone made a shimapan mod for hornet it may have been AI edit. So I made this cover for the track. I spent like 40 minutes tracing migu with a fat ass and then drawing hornet over it. The real time and effort went into the folds to accentuate the breasts and cloak.

nta but I will personally do a pass on albums starting on the last album to try and catch a few of these. ideally someone can start at the top and also check some albums. they should be easy to spot when there are blue times instead of black text for some lines. nta but this is actually smart and I do it sometimes. what it means is that no lyric will be highlighted for the 30 seconds of what I'm assuming is an instrumental break here. otherwise it stays on the lyric that ended that entire time, which is fine too but it's prettier this way for long breaks.

Threads had literally gigantic assgaping feel raping shitpost arguments about lace and hornet being fucked by a million bugs so of course I had to make a few bars about that. If you read the lyrics and look at the archived threads you can trace basically an entire blind playthrough. My playing on the deck even became a verse as I referenced others whining about drawing hornet off model. hornet fags were torn between drawing her with giant breasts as a woman in a black vinyl suit or yogapants fabric and literally a funny stick bug with her mask.
>Double cup C's, had to put 'em her chest
>Got a 'ick on 'eck, panties on Hornet
There was a pretty big patch in which they reduced environmental damage from two masks to one mask of damage and that ass shattered trillions of anons into saying who did or did not beat the game
>L's piled up, I was mining that salt
>2 masks of damage, progress coming to a halt
>Only 18 days, had to patch it too mean
>If you couldn't do it then well you didn't beat the game
if you were in the threads the saltmine was hilarious. this was when sinksonk hype was at an all time peak and people were uploading their girlfriends beating bosses.

I started drinking so I'm not locking in on some of the other subtleties of the track but damn yall should play not the song but silksong it's really fucking good. I used the word schmoove 9 times in song because the one thing those silly Australians nailed the player controls having meaning up until the very last second. Every outcome is entirely deterministic on the player you control everything up until the interaction occurs making the game feel absolutely rewarding up until you fuck up your timing or input. The game is also super rewarding to play with a bunch of build variety and tools crests and play styles. It's literally what if darksouls 2 was 2d and not ass shit to play. but darksouls 2 is a song in and of itself I've been trying to work on getting ready for the musical.

You're doing it wrong. The issue is that Rentry thinks the line should be a hyperlink, so it hides whatever's in the paranthesis.
>[01:21.66]With each fact you’re telling
>01:28.17
should be
>[01:21.66]With each fact you’re telling
>01:28.17[01:28.17] (Boing, boing!)
You need to find the right lines from the original lyrics, not just fix the timestamp.

The lyrics tutorial should really add a big line about how you need to put a \ before paranthesis.
>>
>>750233930
>You need to find the right lines from the original lyrics, not just fix the timestamp.
for the record you can just click edit, add the spaces on the blue lines, then copy the whole thing and paste it into a new rentry.

Oh btw compiler if you got time you should run the files through SoX and downsample everything to 16 bit 44.1k. 24bit is completely unnecessary for listening. Note this has to be done early in the process because it strips album art for some reason.
Speaking of album art, ideally what you embed in the files should be compressed 1000x1000 JPEGs, not full sized PNGs. That can easily save several MB per file. No idea if you already do this, I did not check.

ATTENTION VIDEOFAGS. tl;dr:
>email your video file (not link) to veethemusical@gmail.com
>hardcode subtitles for the stream
If you want your video played on stream, please send your video files (in high quality if possible) to veethemusical@gmail.com.
Please hardcore/bake in subtitles, or let me know whether you're okay with me baking in simple subtitles at the bottom just for the stream. If you plan to upload to YouTube, no problem, but YT compresses video quality, so I prefer to have the high quality files for the stream.
Videos made between last musical and now are acceptable, for songs old and new, whether for a song this year or for a song from thirteen years back.

we just gotta try to organize from the start next year desu.
I'm going to make a template for the sheet, do we want the death battle column to the right of finished, basically just replacing the new mixes since we only need that post-deadline?

>>750237236
mwahahaha
>>
>>750237276
i want songs on the finished tab in the order they were finished. deathbattles however... they used to get a comment on the title to the further left and a link to the challenger somewhere in the misc/vocals section. this time everyone made a seperate row for a song even if it was already in finished.
i think it'd be a good idea to either make the colored song title background a different shade or just lift all of them to the top so nothing goes missing.
>>
>>750237276
Just so you know, I also plan on trying to make a bunch of tweaks And maybe some automations to the spreadsheet in case that impacts your desire to do what you are doing.
>>
i like the proposal i heard earlier that everyone should be required to make their own editor's special before the deadline so we don't have 3-4 days where editors slowly work their way through rough takes that don't sync up to their instrumentals.
>>

oh I think I know who you are, you can handle that because you'll be smarter than me about it. my plan was just to have a template of the current one with a couple small adjustments and a note reminding myself about the stuff we should improve on from day 1 next year. just consider >>750237493 when looking at it please, if it doesn't work for compilation it's pointless after all.
>>
>>750237665
it solves a lot of issues, like missing bit parts get caught before the deadline instead of a week after.
>>750237552
oh yeah and numbered columns are optionally okish I guess
>>
>>750237665
a "Demo" column next to the title in General Audio Edits, and the vocals continue to go in the vocal section. so the Demo section has to be vocals + instrumental. that would also help editors get an easy look at what they're working with

>>750237767
number column
>>
I guess I'll talk about at least one of the things I want to do:
I want when something is submitted to the edit sheet, for us to have "levels" of editing that it already has ranging from like NONE to "this just needs to be mastered (level adjustments etc.). Some other tags I'd want are "multiple singers" "instrumental could be improved" you get the idea. I want editors to have an idea of what they are getting in to before they start.
I also want to color code at least a cell based on some of these things.
There's like a TON more that I want to do with the sheet now that I've got a way better head on my shoulders but I don't want to dump some huge walls and I need to plan it out a bit more
>>
>>750237015
Here's the zip: https://gofile.io/d/ezj4c4P6

same honestly, the past few years people have grown increasingly complacent with the mindset of "fuck the editors, they have to edit what we leave for them either way, just dump raw audio and ignore it after that". we do not need 9 albums of songs after nearly a month and a half of work, we're supposed to be making stuff 1 month. people can't act in good faith and accept "get done by the 15th, and if there's little edits left to do we can accept that", we can't have the rule bends there anymore. it should be something like "if it's not edited the end of the 17th, it'd not getting edited and is dlc for next year" at the most lenient.
>>
>>750238165
I agree with anon and I'll add that notes don't stand out and they'll have literally anything written in them, sometimes not useful.
>>
>>750238495
not any of these niggas but in my opinion just make the 15th a hard limit, force writefags or singfags to edit their own stuff and do it on time otherwise their effort is wasted
>>
>>750238284
how did he do that

Go back to hard deadline at midnight the 16th Howland Island and if it's not finished by then it's DLC. I still remember the struggle to get everything done in time back in Year VII and the satisfaction of making it.
I'm open to minor mix adjustments past deadline but everything should be at least listenable by deadline.
>>
>>750238647
15th used to be the hard limit, the issue there is we just go back to people getting fucked on missing 1 thing. it's pretty reasonable to at least have it be "songs done by 15th, after that all you can do is edit them and don't expect other people to edit for you if you can't convince them to, you're not owed a post-deadline editor". that accounts for people like K, who always has a song "done" on the 15th, it's just not fully edited yet, but doesn't let people just dump 8 raw audio files on editfag and say "good luck, see you on stream day".
>>
do you guys think a lot of problems would be solved if singfags always edited their own songs instead of relying on editfags
>>
>>750238739
>go back to people getting fucked on missing 1 thing
So be it, drop your shit earlier if you want to give anons a chance of catching stuff you missed
>>
>>750238742
no, but I do think learning to edit makes for better singfags
>>
i love that the musical is currently healthy enough that we can stand to be stricter even if it means a lower total song number. that's been a huge complex for niggas ever since the drop from VI.
>>
>>750238742
There are pros and cons, but obviously this would need to be "an editor isn't owed to you". make it the same as how written songs aren't guaranteed to be sung, if no editor wants it finished then you better edit it yourself the way I ALWAYS SING MY OWN SONGS

PROs
>vastly less stress because less shit to deal with
>less infighting on edit DBs, ect
>much less frantic post-season bullshit to handle
>some people will actually finally learn to edit
>less likely to have wasted time on like 3 good editors all doing "Post Something Vaguely" mixes while 20 other songs sit on the sheet
>a singfag that can edit is just a better singfag because they know what is fixable and what isn't and aren't submitting impossible to time stuff

CONs
>vastly less songs (very minor con desu, we are at critical mass)
>the songs we get will likely be a little worse on average, at least for a year or two
>many people still won't edit and will just leave entirely instead
>higher skill ceiling to even join realistically
>more tech/money required to realistically join, can't just sing into your phone in a recorder app
>>
>>750238979

Year VI is 13:42:58, we really don't need to replicate that.
Year XIV is ~12:33 (not accounting for recent silence trims). I wouldn't mind it being shorter.
Also Fairy Poke Song is a fucking banger.

i love that one too. we have so many bangers, it's a very strong year. only got spoiled on so many of them so i'm looking forward to the stream very much. great job to each and every one of you, you are loved.
>>
>>750239108
>the songs we get will likely be a little worse on average, at least for a year or two
Probably yes, but it will still be allowed to post their raws for songs that need that extra touch, you should also post your own mix (or at the very least a demo) alongside it.
I don't want people to edit every song they sing, I do actually enjoy mixing or I wouldn't be doing it. Songs like Groove and EIGHT BEARS are super fun to work on. What really sucks is being expected to fix bad takes instead of the singer doing more takes until they're happy with their performance.
>higher skill ceiling to even join realistically
It's not hard to slap your vocals and an instrumental into Audacity, like most people used to do.

Correct.
Btw I don't know if the DLC separation in the lyrics zip is 100% correct. The files in the Death Battles folder belong there, but some of the files in the other two could be wrong.
>>
>>750239513
no yeah you're right, but they're still going to scare some people even with a low entry bar. I agree we need to come to a united front on a deadline adjustment for next year, it's just that it will get some people butthurt.
>>750239540
there might be a better label than platforms/misc, I labelled it that so people wouldn't ask why there were so many not-platforms songs on the platforms album. past that this seems right.
>>
>>750239513
>I don't want people to edit every song they sing
Really? I did that this year because I assumed it would free up more time for the editfags to edit songs that really needed it
>>
>>750239693
they mean overall, they still like having songs to edit too, but not 100+ of them without a real choice. if you can and don't hate it then it's helpful to do your edits (and maybe others too)
>>
>>750239770
Makes sense, makes sense
>>
>>750239513
>I don't want people to edit every song they sing, I do actually enjoy mixing or I wouldn't be doing it.
for people like me, who appreciate what you do endlessly, could you help me understand what you enjoy, what you don't enjoy? more? When I make the spreadsheet changes that I want to do, I will be asking you for a lot of input since you obviously know the most about editing
>>
>>750239693
I want you to do most of them if you can but I might ask for raws if I see a song I really want to do.
>>750239770
Yeah this. I did 31 songs this year, and could probably have done a few more if I didn't spend so much time on Rance. Though it also helped to not have to do songs I didn't want to work on, so thanks to everyone else who tackled the General Edits sheet.

As was mentioned earlier, another benefit of needing to post a mixed demo of your take is you can immediately tell if something isn't working and you should try again. It's a lot more fun to mix if I don't have to spend a lot of time editing your timing or pitch.
>>
>>750239942
>I did 31 songs this year
I'm assuming this isn't even accounting for a bunch of little "masters" you did, assuming that was you and not someone else?
>>
>>750239982
Yeah, but those take like 30 seconds each so they're no big deal thought it would be better if people didn't leave 15 seconds of silence at the end of their final mix.
>>
>>750239942
Rance fucking kicks ass too, it's based that you got to sink time into something that sick. I'm still in awe parts of it are live instruments.
>>
>>750239942
>I did 31 songs this year
Oof, I barely did 10, counting mixes and stuff I wrote
Though I did get sick and was on vacation throughout a good half of it. Hope I'll be more fortunate next time.
>>
>>750239942
>It's a lot more fun to mix if I don't have to spend a lot of time editing your timing or pitch.
the joke's on you there, my timing is "I karaoke sing the track a couple times and pick the best ones" and my pitch is the natural one god gave me. fuck maybe I should learn to sing before next year.
>>
>>750240058
Thanks! Well, "live" is a stretched, they're heavily edited recordings, but I'm happy I did it rather than just doing MIDI. I did use my brand new guitar for it which was perfect timing because this song is perfect for a 7 string and I didn't have that before, so is it fair to add $750 to the musical budget?
>>750240143
Learning to sing is never a bad idea.
>>
>>750240386
>so is it fair to add $750 to the musical budget?
sure, add it to K's tab
>>

practice active listening, too. I sometimes have a long commute so I'll often play the same new songs a ton until I can pick out all the different parts
>>
>>750239857
Hmm, what makes mixing fun? I think there are a few elements.
>the singer is good
If I can spend 5 minutes and get a great mix, life is good.
>I like the original song
I see an unclaimed metal song I know and the singer is decent? I'm mixing that. Same for very few pop songs.
>I have stems for it
It's very beneficial to be able to adjust the instruments separately. And if I manage to post the stems before anyone sings it, the singer may use the included vocal stem to do harmonies. More people should use the vinst database desu.
>I get to be creative
With Groove I could go ham with Rhythm Heaven sound effects, which was fun.
>I learn something new/get a puzzle to figure out
It's fun to do vocal effects like in Discord and Shitposter Guy, figuring out how the original artist did it and replicating it.
>It's not tedious
Mixing is usually a lot more fun than editing. Though I will sometimes do tedious shit if I know the end product will be great, like mixing GIMME MOAR a few years ago with its 120+ tracks. Pop production is wild.
