Games are so shit now that I just went back to reading.

I've read about 6 books in the last month.

Play good games like Counter-Strike 1.6 and modded Skyrim and Sims 4. Grow up. It's time for you to be a man.

Yes, but you might not share my manchild tastes.

For me it was determining what genres I like and then going on /lit/ to see what people usually recommend. I haven't read any bad books so far following this strategy.

This is the problem with books.
Video games last for weeks but you can pound a book in like four days.
>>
>>750222507
which of his books have you read?
particularly, i still haven't read ratner's star and mao ii - are they any good?
>>

Literally nobody cares, you would know this if you went to college.
I also like how you need multiple people to take someone out in your make believe chud incel scenario.
>>
>>750222695
Most games have singleplayer campaigns that are under 10 hours to complete.
Only multiplayer games or strategy/RPG's can last weeks.
>>

There aren't actually that many.
All the nebula nominees from like 65 to 88 and then reading out from those authors you're well under 1000.
And then you've read basically everything unless you want to read like Weird Tales.

It's not bad, I tell it to act as a expert writer and avoid AI cliches, the dialogue and scenes can be pretty fun to read, the AI does struggle with being dumb in a sense, like if I say that Malfoy has very striking catty eyes, it repeats that flavour/description way too many times. Or like you make your MC 6ft tall, it calls him tall, towering, whatever every second scene which doesnt make that much sense. And it also needs to be directed every chapter, if you let it do its own thing it cant really do its own thing well which sucks as it'd make it more fun to read. You also cant really do lewd stuff too much except like kiss, lapsitting, etc.

The social value of reading is a lot higher than video games though so I try to put in the effort for the the purpose of crafting a more well-received persona.

Sure, you’d be right to an extent but I feel people misinterpret it as just a huge linguistic experiment. In actuality, it’s one of the most enjoyable experiences you can have. You don’t need to know all the allusions to other literature, the Irish politics and sometimes sciences to actually enjoy it; it has an initially daunting but eventually easy to follow stream of consciousness that feels so intricately crafted you’d think you were reading Bloom’s mind. He’s one of the most fully realised characters in literature. Though I’d argue Joyce didn’t completely succeed in making him seem like a modern day Odysseus in the form of an Irish Jew Everyman, more so he makes him like a Jewish version of himself. Plus, if you do value your prose, each chapter of Ulysses has something fresh and parodic to it, he pulls off mimicking these styles (like catechism, purple prose, bombastic language, cliche romance, playscript, English literature dating back over 1500 years) with musicality and great skill.

Word of Mouth.
Reading popular stuff is (almost) never a bad thing. As long as you can sniff out the memey shit like Dungeon Crawler Carl or whatever, reading stuff on popular lists will naturally lead you to find authors and genres you like.
Once you get a base of a few authors you like, look up who THEY recommend and you expand your horizons little by little.

You can also look up recommendation videos, reviews and that sort of thing, and just pick up what sounds like it has an interesting premise. In this day and age you can even get samples of the book online to see if you like the author's "voice" before you pull the trigger.

also get a Kobo and pirate your books so you don't feel bad about spending moeny on a book you hate.

Not OP but have also been reading more than gaming in recent years. Any whodunnitfags need to read Benjamin Stevenson. Start with "Everyone in my Family has Killed Someone". He's an ausfag, so some of the references and locations won't mean much to non-ausfags, but he's really good. He's not as good as Knox or Christie, but I can't name a better recent whodunnit writer.

>NOOOOOO MY FUCKING FAVOURED WALKING SIMULATOR ISN'T ENJOYED
The only good creator of moviegames is Kojima; all of his games are fantastic, but the caveat here is that Kojima seemingly believes he is creating high art films while accidentally creating campy masterpieces like Evil Dead. I actually quite enjoy some spaz acting like he's creating art while mastering camp, but maybe that was la creatividad's masterplan of manipulation all along. Not pretentious, in any case.

I do enjoy David Cage's walking simulators, but I'd call them interactive VNs (like Daganronpa, Phoenix Wright, or Hotel Dusk) before I'd call them video games. And, they ARE horrendously pretentious compared to the other interactive VNs.

Everything else is not only pretentious, but also shit.

I picked up some real hobbies. Video games are so much better when than compliment your life instead of being the main focus. Im serious. Go learn an instrument, learn a second language, have stuff like that be your obsession and “challenge”. Video games are just some toys you play with at the end of the day.

Pic related is a guitar I bought yesterday.
