Honestly I just don't really like Serious Sam's formula. Serious Sam 3 I tolerated mostly because it was 2011 what kind of old school shooters were even being made back then? But trying to revisit it, it cares more about grimacing for the camera about how silly late 00s/early 10s military shooters were rather than being a good game.
Now there's a new boomer shooter a month, games with shit like actual level design and pacing instead of nuDoom/Serious Sam-style "lock you in a room until you murder everything" gameplay for a dozen hours. The shit people are accomplishing with fucking GZDoom/UZDoom is incredible.

Really Serious Sam is the least Doom of it's contemporaries, the series is at it's best when it's closer to an FPS musou, of which the only real competition is maybe Warframe. There's not really anything else like the big levels of TFE and TSE.
