Is trying Dota 2 worth it? I have only played League.
>>

If you played league then you know the whole genre isnt worth it

It's worth it. I played league for 10 years (2009-2019) and picked up dota in 2020. Of course what >>750220450 said but I play with friends casually so it's more bearable. There are a lot of small mechanics that add up which will overwhelm you at first, but the diverse hero pool and unique items make the game more fun than league. Also you can do off meta shit and be racist without getting banned unlike league.
>>
dota 2 is a dead game
i dont even want to imagine how miserable it would be as a fresh account
>>
/v/ is for leaguechads only
>>
I switched over about a year ago but I’m not a sweat lord when it comes to these games. That being said, I think the game is better than LoL. Each hero is a lot more unique compared to LoL where, for example, there are a bunch of ADCs who play very similarly. Also, the item building can feel overwhelming at first but once you get a handle on what the items do, they become the best part of the game. There are far more active items than LoL. You can build all sorts of situational items viably. Last time I played LoL, the situation was that each champ had one single viable build with little to no room for build variation. The complexity of DOTA’s items seems to be the biggest thing that scares away LoL players, but I think it’s DOTA’s biggest strength

You literally posted my biggest gripe.
Instead of remodeling her source 1 model, which has had bugged tits since the game launched, they put out a pixar princess arcana that's available once in a blue moon and costs over $100 bucks on the marketplace. The game prints money and Valve still never showed it the respect it actually deserves.

No. And trying League isn't worth it either. You invest in it or not. Just getting familiar with the most picked heroes and their abilities is a big chore you don't "just try it"
>>
Dota is a totally different (and substantially better) beast than league. It's worth learning for the knowledge of exactly how shitty league is in comparison if nothing else.

dota 2 is in a weirdly approachable state because its kind of returned to its wild west origins because its getting less attention
>>
Dota 2 runs way better than League. FPS/Latency/Just everything related to gameplay. For the longest time I think LoL was still supporting DX9 as in some guy on a laptop toaster can ruin your game.
>>
>>750220060
The two games play VERY differently. In LoL your character turns instantly and basic attacks have a cooldown. In DoTA characters have turn rate and basic attacks have a wind-up. In LoL items are primarily for stats and sometimes passives. In DoTA items a lot more items have active abilities and passives. In LoL you deny your opponent farm by harassing them out of lane. In DoTA you kill your own creeps to deny the enemy income. There's a lot more differences, but those are the big ones.

It depends how much you're willing to put up with, the game's glory days are long past but at its core it's still incredibly good despite the feature bloat, many a map objective and so on.
7.0 killed the game, still the best assfaggots there is and ever will be, only reason I played this game and became captured by its gameplay is because of old techies, then they removed them by turning them into a league hero and now I don't play the game anymore despite spending over +10k hours on it.

Got to rank 800~ immortal during ti7 or 8 of that select period, never experienced real dota at rank 500 or lower but my competitive spirit is basically dying really quickly with my age and I don't think I can get into dota 2 anymore because I got fed up putting up with other "people"; haven't kept up for about 3 years or more.

Vulkan just works and it downloads shaders from Steam. Riot games all shader stutter during gameplay.

This. Based fellow pre 7.00 Techies bro

>>750222417
Yeah Valorant is fucking unplayable on a RTX 5090 due to this.
>>
Try HoTS instead. You might actually enjoy yourself playing it unlike DOTA.
>>
As someone who had almost 10k hours of dota2 I stopped playing completely when I got invited to Deadlock couple years back. I did open the game up to see that carnival train event thing earlier this year and played a game but ultimately uninstalled again
I do miss my nigga Shadow Demon like you wouldn't believe

Don't you guys regret spending so much time on dota? What if you did something else with your time?
>>
>>750223867
Nah, was fun
>>
>>750220060
Nah man, it aint worth it. It wasn't even worth it like 13 years ago when it was fresh. Just move on

>>750220060
Not anymore. It was til 2015.
>>
>>750223867
I regret my 2250 hours. But in retrospect I probably would have wasted it on something just as useless.
>>
>>750223867
>Don't you guys regre-
Nope, had a deal of good fun here to there.
>>
>>750223867
if someone wasted that much time on something instead of something productive. history would have made them pick something else to waste that time on instead of doing something productive.
>>
>>750222865
My problem is that Dota has spoiled me to death with hero designs. In whichever fuck other game could I find something like Shadow Demon? Oracle? Disruptor? Spirit Breaker?

>>750223867
I'll never regret my 8k hours because I only ever played with friends or when coming back home drunk and didn't know what else to do before bed.
What if you did something else with all the time you spent playing games?

Consume actually good media? Learn a useful skill? Make friends/memories? Literally anything else.

another failure who dropped out of hollywood that sits around seething at people enjoying video games

Actually you should all be betting on Dimetrius Doncoleslaw to score 15 ball points in the next Krumpus game instead of playing video games.

I have met some through Dota, people I've kept in contact and do other activities well after 10 years
>>
>>750222376
As a fellow old techies mourner they're probably regretting gutting him so much and they recently started introducing green mines back in a more limited form. I suspect they'll shift him even more towards the older style as time goes on

>Is trying Dota 2 worth it?
Yes, it's not as hard as people say it is, and it's actually more forgiving to newer players than League is.
There's some learning curves but if you've played League you'll pick it up fast.
