In terms of raw power pc has been better since 2012, but it looks like things are going back to what they used to be half of pc gamers have gaming setup weaker than the xbox series s and 90% of pc have worse setup than a ps5. With next gen coming in at 600 to 700 bucks and being as powerful as 5080 to 5090 card. When did pc start holding back gaming?

next gen is not 600-700 bucks its $1200+.also it will not be as strong as a 5080 or 5090. consoles have strict power limits. the entire ps5 pro power draw is 250w for the entire system. 5080 is 360-420w alone and the average pc is using 750-1000w.

The one exception was during the PS4/Xbone generation which is when I assume most PC gamers like myself got into the hobby. That generation was pretty underpowered especially the CPU.

I've had enough of the console arms race. Instead of games becoming more ambitious with the extra horsepower, they just became less optimized. I wish Google, Apple, or fucking Amazon would release a low-powered, inexpensive console focused on providing good games to its playerbase. Consoles have always been better than PCs due to dedicated or strange hardware per the price range, physical media, unique controllers and ecosystems.PC *feels* like it always wins out of the box because at a distance you look at freedom the platform gives but the reality is that you're stuck on overpriced hardware that has to run GPU drivers in tandem with the OS always running, separated out physical components, and always being stuck on Steam.
