>put Star Fox back into the gaming community dialogue thanks to allowing Fox to show up in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
>proceed to greenlight a character design for the franchise's return to gaming that looks nothing like this or any iteration of Star Fox short of those weird puppets they used for promotional material of the original game

But...why?

Better question is how the fuck do they not have Galaxy 3 in the chamber at this point?
>>
>>750233148
If the leaks continue being true, then the "next" Star Fox game was actually the one that was being developed first, and the weird realistic 64 remake was a rush job outsourced to Indians because Nintendo had to throw together an easier sell for the normalfags. It's very likely whatever the next project is won't use the same art style as the remake, and it very well might look something closer to the Mario movie design.

Or it might not. Nintendo is strange that way. They were still using Fox's Assault design in marketing even during the early Wii U years (before Zero came out).
>>
>>750233470
They will likely do a Star Fox Afventures remake, because it's the direct sequel to 64.

Hopefully they change the voices, since they sound just plain wrong. I had an Xbox and PS2 that generation, so Switch 2 NSO was how I played it.
>>
>>750233148
OP, the game didn't suddenly exist because Fox showed up in the movie, it was already under development in tandem with the movie.

Miyamoto is old and on his way out. He had to compromise his visions to make his fortune. Now he's a god in his industry and powerful in his company. No one would dare tell him "no." He is raping all of his "babies" to make them. It's his final act on his way out the door.

I like that people are naive enough to think it's not going to be another remake of 64. The last three Star Fox games have been remakes of 64. Three in a row. Three times in a fucking row they did that. You bet your ass they're gonna do a fourth.

I replayed SFA via NSO for the first time since my initial playthrough back when the game launched. It's a bit better than I remember it (particularly the music) but it was still pretty rough around the edges. Particularly towards the end, very rushed and I totally forgot about being stuck with 99% completion. A reimagining could salvage the game but a direct remake would do the game (and potential audience) zero favors.

>>
>>750238161
Is there any info on the cut areas? I've really only seen them briefly mentioned here
>>
>>750238016
The puppets still have the ingame proportions and ingame looks like the actual fox design. The only people winning by siding with it are larpers.
Even ignoring how the actual star fox you played was the one that had a very cartoonish fox; people don't play cover art and ads.
>>750238161
The thing with the cut areas is that outside of Dragon Rock Bottom; which i don't get why it was cut in the first place; is that it relied on DPs design.
Which sure if you just slide back in Krystal and add back Kyte you can just slap back in. I guess there was some hints they might have had the Willow Grove at one point.

DP did legitimately have a lot of better design choices than SFA even if i can tell where some good ideas did come up in the very rushed transfer process of SFA.
Not all of them though, a shitton of SFA was basically made as filler since they had to cut a ton of stages. And both DP and SFA can only really be described as rough ultimately.
To the point that making it very presentable.
>>750238365
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AVnpfRT1bk
Here's the most complete one. Kiosk also had the other "Dragon Rock Bottom" section which was just a defend the Triceratops from some bugs section before you save him.
DP requires a bit more of a writeup so i'll do that in a bit.

Also forgot but incase it wasn't obvious as shit, the test of scales or whatever its called was meant to be a boss fight. At some point in development they also wanted a Arwing Bossfight against the galleon which we have dialogue for; its actually where Falco originally would have came to save you.
In terms of DP we have.
>The Cloudrunner Trap Rooms
This shit was cut from DP itself and was replaced by the Jewel Mine Race, but basically its a bunch of trials that were meant to defend the spellstone. Its actually pretty long and complex with a lot of varied rooms.
>Darkice Mines 2 cut rooms
Actually here's another kiosk thing, in DP and Kiosk SFA there was multiple cut puzzles in DIM2. Like a room where you needed a light to get through(that seemingly never worked), a room where you had to shoot a conveyor at the right time to drop some snowballs on lava; that sorta thing.
>Cape Claw Sharpclaw Castle
In DP Cape Claw was around three times the size of SFA and had the content to match, but essentially it had an entire back half which was a mess of caves was centered around an a pretty cool castle. The original area for the second temple was elsewhere so the purpose of going here was;
Rescue Kyte(Krystals Dinosaur)>Do the Fire Crystal Quest to open a shrine>go around again with a "Krazoa Translator" so you could open the way to Krazoa palace(the cut stage; DP KP is called Warlock) by either parting the waves or getting some sort of walking underwater spell?
>Discovery Falls
Seemingly one of the first DP areas finished; and also one that entirely relies on Krystal's partners gameplay.
>Diamond Bay
The original entrance to Volcano Force point, a lot of its puzzles were just moved elsewhere, but it actually does still have a ton of unique content still.
>Golden Plains
A entirely cut desert level that was the original entrance to Ocean Force Point; or well it was Desert Force Point at this stage.

I honestly think their main goal was to try and garner interest from the Japanese kemono community, because Japan actually loves the more realistic interpretations of anthros. Also I feel like they were legitimately worried about too many people seeing designs that were too reminiscent of Zero, and they desperately wanted to avoid that. That said, I can honestly see them returning to a more traditional looking game the next time around.

>Swapstone Circle
Lightfoot Village is unironically like a third of a hub area they expanded into its own level, but the rest of it and the second swapstone was cut.
Some of its content was moved in but not all of it. On the note of village though, the really complex puzzle at the end had a different purpose in DP: and the shrine entrance still actually reflects this with its unique visuals.
>Willow Grove
The original "entrance" to Dragon Rock, its somewhat complete in DP but not fully. Its a pretty weird stage that seems to be built around like a boulder chase. Is a big walk down spiral with caves everywhere. In DPs plot, Dragons Rock is mutating the area around, including the spellstone guardian.
Who was then reused as the mutant thorntail enemy, and in general the idea of guardians in SFA was mostly cut.
>Blackwater Canyon
An area that was seemingly never finished based on our very late DP prototype, we do know whats meant to happen here and that it even went through a massive layout change. In early DP, both MCs were actually meant to have unique dinos for their second spellstone stages.
These were both cut, and while its counterpart was seemingly just fully cut once they decided they couldn't do the T-Rex partner, Blackwater Canyon actually got revamped and was clearly intended for final DP. We know from a rare doc that this stage was also meant to have a big skeleton boss at the end.
Also it was centered around the "Shadow Hunters" who bizarrely they tried to reuse as Hookclaws, only for them to solely exist in the Test of Fear; the test that ended up replacing BWC.
>>750239441
Doesn't really hold up because that community is super niche and they clearly didn't give a rats ass about the JP release of the game.
>>
>>750239561
>Walled City
The counterpart to BWC, and bizarrely had its name moved over to its entrance area which was originally called Earthwalker Temple. Some parts of the stage were moved over, and SFA based on some unused stuff wanted to double down on it, like with the aforementioned Hookclaws.
>Walled City TRex chase
Seemingly a side effect of the merger, but it seems like Rare wanted to do basically a crash runaway section from a T Rex, where it'd end with it smashing into a wall and dropping its teeth, which would then grant you access into the actual city.
This was then seemingly reverted into the EWT era button puzzle.
>Krazoa Palace
An area that was beyond never finished, and krystals final spellstone area. Like i said unrelated to the final game one. This is a crashed Krazoa ship, and by entering it you reawaken the Krazoa who was meant to be looking after the ship. He gets you to reactivate the ships reactors only to realize that the spellstone was stolen millions of years ago.
The unstable energy of the ship then opens time rifts, forcing you to jump through them to track down the thief. You first go to the future, where Sauria has been destroyed by the Kamerian Dragon and is on the edge of a black hole, you explore the ruins to find a Mindread Spell and then return.
Obviously your second go around will be to the past, where you discover that yep the Krazoa are evil big shocker and you stealth through. And also find the thief who is either some sort of turncoat or somehow a bigass dragon larping as a krazoa, and steal the spellstone from him.

I forgot to mention but BWC also came with an unused Grenade spell as well, which was basically fully functional albeit its kinda shit and jank. But its cool in concept, its a mortar timed explosive that can recover magic energy; though that last bit might be debug shit.
If you could just detonate it yourself it'd be fine, not sure why it got cut. By the way DP itself is decently playable at this point.
>>
>>750239962
I've seen a little bit of the 'final' version of DP being played, maybe I'll give it a go for myself.
>>
>>750239962
Also also forgot but the Inside of Scales Ship use to be a somewhat major part of Cloudrunner Fortress. And even had more unused sections even in DP, at some stage it looks like it was meant to be fully exploreable.
For what reason? I dunno. There's also a metric shitton of cut enemies.
>>750240321
Right the people working on this luckily don't lock the fixes behind a discord.
https://dinosaurpla.net/projects
https://thunderstore.io/c/dinosaur-planet-recompiled/
Some of this is still very much wiki crawling though for stuff like KPs actual content because i didn't mention it but the only map we know that got made was like a prefab looking map for the present version of it.
When its working i think it is a much smoother flowing game than SFA honestly, though that bar isn't high.
>>
>>750240479
Just realized i said smoother about a 10 frames N64 game, i meant gameflow not literal framerate obviously.
The original prototype was cartoonishly busted by the way, basically every item in the game had an invalid pickup object that had a 99.9% chance to crash the game. Most of the objects didn't work, BWC had an object placed in it that had a very high chance to hard crash a console.
Also a weird thing with SFA is they just sorta moved music around at random, Dragon Rock randomly got Earthwalker Temples music and a lot of weird shit. Though even DP seems to have some of this weirdness(Earthwalker temple has two tracks, but the later Walled City version only seems to have one).

>>750240635
I keep on forgetting shit but Dragon Rock has a completely cut boss that also pretty functional; unlike the games Drakor Fight which is obscenely unfinished.
The Kamerian Heart is jank and unfinished but its mostly there as a boss.

Drakor is obviously in the place of Andross as he was the main villain, his fight is weird and would be cool in theory but nothing is working. Pretty obvious why they just made him a shitty turret section.
Basically you are on a weird floating asteroid and he's seemingly made some weird fake space dimension with his absorbed Quan Ata Lachu(DPs Krazoa Spirits, basically a Krazoa God) and there's a bunch of asteroids about.
He tries to slice you in half with lasers but can't hit the platform because his actual aim is broken and said laser can also be used to split the other rocks flying around to attempt a meteor rain. Once you shoot him in the chest a few times, the Quan is released as a big krystal and you have to run forward to get it.
Where again Drakor's ai is broken so he just lasers away from you and just awkwardly walks slowly to it, you can flinch him but it doesn't do anything. You win by getting the crystal obviously.

And one final big funny fact, you want to know how DP ends? On a cliffhanger, you don't beat the krazoa, the ending is the Krazoa waking up, Krystal/Sabre/Randorn running away, but Krystal ends up falling back onto Sauria as Randorn/Sabre go to their home planet.
Then you get a speech about the dinosaurs being united and willing to fight the Krazoa. What a perfect ending for a game that never came out and will never get a sequel eh.

>Fox meets with Sabre halfway through his adventure, who's out to break out Krystal out of the... crystal

I mean as usual his legs being tiny would look dogshit but i don't think it'd be an entirely unique model, so either it'd say fuck it and just go with Zero again(maybe somewhat modified to reflect the movie) or its the mystery adventure model.
Which as mentioned before it wouldn't be shocking if its just basically movie fox anyway.

Not really. He sounds like a pushover who gets ordered around in Adventures, and in Assault Wolf has to talk some sense into him and give him a pep talk
Melee Fox looks like a no-nonsense kick your shit in mercenary with the constant stern glare
>>
>>750245836
I meant that most are general shonen hero tropes. Melee Fox doesn't need to exist in a story, so the way he acts reflects it. Fox isn't exactly goofy in adventures, its just a lot of "this seems really stupid but its a job" and in assault he's very much a generic shonen protag arc wise.
Though thinking on it, forgot about the mythical cucked fox. So i guess there's two big outliers, Command and the Movie where he's not really a shonen hero.

Because get this, visuals are an important part of marketing. And the fact people stopped constantly shitting on it wasn't because people suddenly liked the designs, thats a small minority.
And beyond that, its just not the design people were sold on.

And everyone and their mother has already played 64 because its been released constantly; including as one of the headliners for their switch emulation service.
And unlike OoT it doesn't have a meme status of being this absolute pinacle best game in existence; and its attached to a relatively dead franchise whose main meme is that they just keep on making the same shit.

More like the scope for what constitutes a video games has expanded massively, and an on-rails shooter with a few cutscenes in-between each mission is barely above minigame-tier
As for Adventures, it's a lackluster Zelda clone with Star Fox characters slapped on. A rushed, unfinished one at that.

I'll add it also has a shitty violent slapstick, whereas First Zootropolis relied on subverted expectations of stereotypes

In a couple of years we'll have Zoo3 about Birds. With a message "There will be poop everywhere but at least they're great delivery guys"
>>

Nah its pretty unlikely its just the gameplay, its most likely the shit indian designs doing most of the heavy lifting. Its literally most of the discourse the game had.
And people overstate the "evolution of modern gameplay" by a shitton.

The point was whether or not people played it ultimately; and adventures was the last relevant star fox game for a reason, as it was the one people actually played.
Assault may play like shit, mangle its own rails section and be an ultimately pretty mid multiplayer game and barely has any content, and command might be reuse hell with an actual shitpost for a story(which would be fine if it wasn't so drawn out) but nobody played either of those.
Nor did they play zero.

This. It becomes clear when you see how a real fox stands on two legs, Fox proportions in the demake mirror that while the puppets have human proportions.

He mentioned they may have a snout too, thoughtbeit. Kemono when it's drawn moeslop style is basically kemonomimi with a few more traits but basically closer to anime girl with cat ears than proper anthro.

Don't forget all the disgusting asskissing tour Switchfags did with "yeah well the cartoony style designs were always bad anyway" and "it's totally le callback to le snes puppets".

They did the same pathetic damage control for Yoshi and the Mysterious Book by claiming it's not a toddler's playground but a "deep puzzle game for cultured tastes". Actual yoshifags didn't fall for it and instead lamented the sad state of the series

That's the main metric that companies use to justify more games
Also the state of the star fox franchise is horrid, there's no defending it.

I think it's because on that razor-thin line between realism and cartoonish expressiveness, basically making them the best of both worlds. Western artists tend to do exaggerated lips while eastern ones do thin lips on snouts and sometimes both forget about lips altogether.
