They are all victims. SEGA started the console wars, which ironically also claimed them as a victim.

Nintendo planted the seeds, Sony nurtured it.

Just about every problem in gaming can be traced back to the 4th generation; specifically the snezzz

>false marketing
Despite advertising itself as the "Super" Nintendo, its 2.68mhz CPU causes more slowdown than the regular Nintendo Entertainment System running games in similar genres. Action games, forget it, it's pitiful CPU slows to a screeching halt simply moving a handful of sprites around, which many casual gamers praise for making "more accessible". The real "core gamers" were playing the far more powerful Mega Drive, PC Engine, Amiga, X68000, or Neo Geo.

>movie games
The SNEZZZ specialised in casual games designed for toddlers, story game "JRPG's" that have little to no actual gameplay depth, and Mahjongg and horse racing games for elders.

>draconian DRM
The SNES popularised disposable stream-only games and add-ons using its Satellaview add-on, long before the days of such garbage like Stadia.

>paid online
Yes, while the SNES was jewing people in Japan with its streaming dogshit, it was also standarising paying a subscription for multiplayer in the west https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XBAND

Valve by a long shot.
Kikestation in a solid second place.

Microsoft.
>Xinput
>GFWL
>Streamlining game engines to make sure that creating bad ports is easy
>Paid online
>Cannibalized PC gaming instead of just letting consoles be consoles
>Paid DLC

TLoU was just copying OTS shooters like Gears though.

Xbox easily but it's not something a zoomer would know.
Xbox started pay for your own internet
Xbox popularized matchmaking format which destroyed server culture. This one change had a profound psychological effect across society. The ramifications are immense.

This. Not to mention it basically helped kill a bunch of previously pc only dev studios.

Debatable.
Cover-based over-the-sloppers are fundamentally designed to be single analog shooters akin to RE4, but with some LARPing to convince people that they are using both analog sticks at the same time. Being out of cover with hitscan weapons just starts a timer for how long you can be out of cover, so it's not like you can do any precise aiming there, and when inside cover the game just becomes whack-a-mole where you barely have to move.
There's a reason that Gears had the OG parryslop with active reloads, there's just no skill expression in these games.
Even Vanquish has slo-mo that means you don't need to move and also shoot.

Xbox for introducing achievements.
>>
>>750242160
Now now, they're all equally culpable in shitting up the modern industry in their own ways... but there's always a funder behind the scenes of rot.

Microsoft for all the reasons in this thread and more
>Paid online
>Matchmaking over servers
>Halo was great but bros ultimately normielized the culture than enriched it
>Countless studios "saved!" by Microsoft buying and then suffocating
>Minecraft
Minecraft was bigger than videogames, Lego, or building blocks. Now it's a videogame again.

Nintendo has made bad decisions but they're 50/50 on them backfiring over them getting away with it. They usually hurt themselves more than they hurt the industry at large, see the Virtual Boy or WiiU for examples.

Sony's foundational creative direction of pushing the technical and narrative boundaries of video games was fine at the start, but these days we're seeing how much they have to struggle to financially continue that pursuit. They're eating themselves alive and refusing to change.

Microsoft has made the most impactful bad decisions of the lot with normalizing paid online and subscription models, but they're also the least impactful of the three on the whole. Aside from the first half of the 360's lifespan, they never had the same clout as Sony and Nintendo.

Overall, I'd say Microsoft had the most damaging ideas on an industry-wide level, but Sony and Nintendo flop harder than Microsoft does when they do fuck up. That said, I think Nintendo does a better job at keeping their damage internal, whereas Sony...I mean, look at them now, or during the PS3's launch period. They don't take their knocks like champs.

PlayStation for including wifi in almost every PS3. Paid online may have failed to take over the industry had they not included wifi. The main argument for paid online on 7th gen systems was Xbox 360 online play being better than PS3 but the only real difference was PS3 having a much higher percentage of players on wifi.

>sony
caused movie game epidemic and forced woke shit
>nintendo
it's shit but keeps it to their ecosystem, like ruining pokemon games and zelda games, killing smash tournaments and modding
>xbox
created dlc, service slop, drm, always online, digital only, game passes
by far the most damage
and this is with the shitbox one imagine if it was a success
>>
>>750242160
Most damage to video games = Sony
Most damage to video culture and discussion = Nintendo
Most damage to video Studios = Xbox

Obviously Microsoft. It's not even close, either. They literally invented/introduced the EULA and locking basic internet features behind a paywall. They were also a huge reason DLC and MTX started. Almost everything that sucks about modern gaming was either created or popularized by Microsoft. Sony and Nintendo just made videogames and moviegames until Microsoft showed them how to jew harder.
