How is it possible to get scared of a video game? You know it's not real, right? The monster isn't going to escape the screen.

two answershigh IQ can suspend disbelief and become immersed. It's better that way. meanwhile midwits are crying "I'd never do that! It makes no sense!" even though they've never feared for their lives once. never even been in a fistfight.secondhorror in VR makes flatscreen horror games obsolete. Most people can't afford it, or handle it, but if you want real horror then VR is the place.
The monster isn't going to escape the pages of a book or the TV screen either. It's called immersion and suspension of disbelief.

>>750249190VR horror is too scary. I have thalassophobia and this VR backrooms game just threw me into a fucking huge body of water with giant statues in it without warning and I nearly had a heart attack and noped out of the headset.
>>750248636Is anyone actually scared for jumpscares or is it just screamers?Yes I’m splitting the difference here
>>750249375All screamers are jumpscares. Not all jumpscares are screamers.
>>750248539when i was a kid in the 90s, playing resident evil 2 in the basement on a rainy night was the scariest fuckin thing
>>750249349sounds kino, i'd partake if i had a rig/VR setup
>>750248539Human beings have various heuristic systems that react to stimuli regardless of the person's understanding of the situation. Autistic people like yourself lack these systems. It prevents you from reacting to scary games, but it also prevents you from reacting appropriately to real world situations.
>>750249190VR horror is less scary than flatscreen horror to me because I'm constantly worrying about hitting something IRL or going out of the boundaries, which breaks my immersion. But I guess that's more of an issue with my setup.
>>750248539You need to have the capability to be immersed, which demands a skill of imagination.Which typical ADHD dopamine-addict, Aphantastic zoom zooms seldom posses.
>>750248539>How is it possible to get scared of a video game? It's an interesting question isn't it? If say you were to be playing Mario and suddenly a Goomba popped out and kill your Mario, wouldn't that be shocking? Suddenly Mario, who was alive an thriving, is now suddenly dead and it was all your fault for not responding properly to the Goomba unexpected appearing on your screen and intersecting with your Mario and killing him. Doesn't that feel bad? I've never seen anyone scream when a Goomba appears. Is it really so different to controlling a horror game character and who then suddenly dies because what is essentially a Goomba appears and walks into your character's hitbox? Something to think about, thoughtbeit perhapsly.
