yeah no. you're a kid who's never written a line of code.

Nobody is doing that and anyone who was going to do that didn't need AI in the first place. Pretty on brand. Miyamoto doesn't care for video games and his games were made as a direct result of him disliking how video games are usually made while pulling inspiration from his personal hobbies. So when a tool comes out that allows others to make stuff that can put their creations out there, it tracks he would be for it.

He's literally talking about shit that hasn't happened like it has. And he constantly reiterates that humans can still produce something.

Crazy things are happening right now. This man is a genius and was always ahead of his time and I think with his statement he also realizes these implications, such as, everything become open source due to AI. It becomes a matter of how a company (such as Nintendo) navigates this new landscape rather than succumb to it. They've been going for over 100 years, and they'll go for another 100, at least.

>When you decide to create something, you start with a big plan, right? You try to move forward towards a goal. From there on, it's just the work itself. Filling in the gaps, finishing it nicely, and so on. The troublesome thing is, the work is fun. There's a tremendous sense of satisfaction from creating something, isn't there? (I'm sure writers understand this).
>But the scary thing is when I become satisfied with the work and mistakenly think, "I've made something pretty good."
>In that sense, the more AI becomes capable of handling various tasks, the more opportunities it gives everyone to seriously consider "what it truly means to create," which I think is a very good thing.
>There may have been designs in the past that were created solely through copying. But those don't last, do they? What's important is that an individual is intentionally trying to design something, and the computer is assisting them in that process.
>While AI may evolve to the point where it can do everything for us, I think there are still many things we can do.

I don't like that access to these magic tools are based on the whims of millionaires that aren't making much money out of it in the first place and it can go down at any moment or worse, have access restricted after the government or other powerful entities believe that the common man doesn't deserve it, especially now that technology is getting more and more inaccessible. If people can't afford computers, they're 100% going to start funneling people into enclosed hardware systems and achieve their dream of turning intelligence into a commodity where you can't do anything without their permission.
If anything I'm more surprised that companies that produce consumer technology/media aren't up in arms about other companies forcefully funneling them and everyone else into an unfavorable position. Capcom did all that work to make MH Wilds an unoptimized piece of shit that only beast PCs can run and now nobody can afford the parts needed for it.

ai is bad for 3 reasons:

1. It is bad to outsource knowledge and skills to a cloud service that you have no control over. Tech companies like Netflix or Disney+ initially build good will with their customers before worsening the quality of their service by including higher subscription fees and restricting features.

2. A lot of people are going to make a lot of scams, cryptominers, and malware with this to ruin a hobbyist space. Most of the people using ai are sociopathic antisocial types who don't have respect for creatives at all, so they see an opportunity to obtain easy cash and clout. AI prompters have the same mentality as scalpers.

3. Current creativity is difficult, annoying, and tedious to do, but the purpose of these trials is to train new creatives into adopting professional workflows so that they can enter professional industries. Modding, fanfiction, and shorts were fun forms of job training that can get you hired by professionals, and that unlikely to exist anymore with people faking it. Hobbyist communities were comprised of working class types who come from humble backgrounds, but it'll be filled to the brim with rich people who swipe their cards to prompt slop.
>>
>>750257664
small companies literally cant start if they dont have the money to afford even a basic office PC because of how important technology is in every facet of our lives
they cant remove what currently exists but they can certainly make it difficult for anyone starting fresh as is happening right now
>>
>>750257803
A basic PC for office work and business work is a few hundred dollars, it has not increased even with the memory shortage. It definitely is not the highest cost when building a new office either.

>>
>>750257224
It makes sense when you realize this allows them to push their ideal future. Cloud streaming. They don't want consumers to have power of any kind. They want you entirely locked into their ecosystems. AI is just another step to it. It's cheap and highly useable because it's a drug. You get instant gratification why do you think the selling point from shills is LOOK AT HOW MUCH YOU CAN GET AND HOW MUCH FASTER IT IS? Why is it called AI brainrot?
It's a drug that can only be used effectively by a small minority of people. Everyone else degrades with it's use as laziness kicks in. They'll forget more and more as they default to "Just let AI solve it for me" or "I'll leave it to AI" as they do their skills degrade and they forget more and more as they let the instant gratification take over. Those with weak constitution or low IQ obviously degrade even faster. It's why jeets using AI have been the reason the internet has been fucked more recently.
>AWS shut down due to vibecoded Pull Request shutting the entire internet for a few hours
>PHP bug that fucked everything for hours again and has damaged many sites with inactive or not particularly active hosts
If you're going to use it, use it as a tool for support or to teach you things, but do the actual work by hand. Don't forget your skills and don't let them degrade.

Miyamoto hasnt been involved in the development of a good game in 25 years. He actively has made Nintendo games worse for the last 15 years
>>
>>750252134

BTW, did you know that you're spreading misleading information?

https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/shigeru-miyamoto-explains-why-ai-wont-make-human-creativity-obsolete/

>The Mario creator concluded that, rather than viewing generative AI as a threat, he sees potential benefits if the technology forces game creators to reconsider what creativity involves.
>“Looking back at past designs, there are some that were created merely by copying and pasting. Yet, such work rarely stands the test of time; it lacks the individual’s particular design intention,” Miyamoto said.
>“Because the process relies on an individual’s intent, with the computer serving as an assistant for the labor, I believe that even as technology continues to evolve, and even if AI were to eventually handle everything, there will always be a role left for us to play.”

His stance in AI is very neutral.

That's the ideal obviously but those already addicted can at least ween off it by keeping their independence and using it like a glorified youtube tutorial without the shilling. Ideally people should stop but a tool promising total laziness, a "do anything you ask" machine, is an easy sell to the masses. The addiction is already deep and the withdrawal will hit like a truck as we essentially would have to send these addicts back to school to relearn basic math, literacy, etc.
And before some AIjeet comes in and screams luddite this degradation was already happening thanks to the "no child left behind" policies that ensure everyone is taught at nigger levels killing literacy in even otherwise healthy and capable children. AI as simply accelerated the process by degrading everyone directly rather than through osmosis from close proximity to the mentally retarded shitskins.

Because actual visionaries and talented artists see it for the tool that it is, and a way to speed up the process to seeing your vision through. All the anti-ai faggots are either non artists with no talent that are just tired of watching youtube slop (and assume that's all it can do), or artists that know its potential but are basically Luddites fearing being replaced.

What people really don't see the potential is in learning. I've actually made more progress in my ability to program simply because I'm now looking at code for shit I'm interested in that is directly tied to my projects. It makes a tremendous difference. I could never learn it years ago trying to make some stupid "hello world" equivalent game or application that did not have anything to do with what I wanted to learn. I'm able to tell it what I'm trying to do and examine how it achieved it. When you know what the outcome of the code is and how it relates to what you want it to do. you better absorb the logic and it's easier to decipher what's going on.

>In the framework of Enterprise Intelligence, LLMs are extraordinary translators and inferential engines. They excel at synthesizing unstructured knowledge, mapping between modalities, and assisting with novel reasoning. But their very strength—being trained on vast external corpora and often accessed through externally hosted endpoints—introduces a governance tension when applied inside an enterprise.
>In this sense, [code/rules/KG] is not merely a deductive engine—it is also a sovereign knowledge store.
>This does not diminish the role of LLMs. Rather, it clarifies it: LLM as the know-it-all friend who knows a lot about a lot of things and can answer most common sense questions involving commonly known data, while [code] holds the private intelligence of logical formats such as those of strategies, business rules.
>In such a design, LLMs act as architectural mortar: converting between natural language, code, graphs, and rules—but not serving as the permanent repository of strategic knowledge itself. The point of this blog is not to choose between symbolic systems and LLMs, but to place each where its strengths align with both cognitive function and governance reality.

Like with any tool, the goal is not to make shit projects really quick, it's to make shitty parts of a good projects really quick. High speed cameras, dollies, cranes, advanced lighting, all powerful tools that have helped make good movies.

Anybody can grab a camera and make shit, because that's not the only ingredient. With something like AI, it's not enough to generate a batch of 100 textures and 1-click an engine. Talented people don't do that. They may generate base textures they edit, or perhaps to add distress or aging, or recolor or removals of details For code, they might know their goal functionality of the engine, and use the AI for snippets or to solve hurdles or problems they have.

Plenty of people, like myself, still like complete control over the vision. I'd never use a completely AI generated texture, but doesn't mean one didn't play a part in the final texture. Same with code. All these ingredients still have to meet the vision. Right now it's too early as the people that are working on larger projects aren't going to be done in a week just because of AI. While the people with no vision or care past some clout are going to be shitting out 1-click slop.

Has anyone actually programmed their dream game by their own hands? Since this topic is about Miyamoto, Miyamoto has been in the game business for over 40 years, and 40 years ago, he had a game he wanted to experience, but he has not experienced it due to limitations. And even to this day, he hasn't realised his dream game, and he's a veteran.

You would have to have pretty low expectations to expect your 'dream' game to come into being from your own hands. Many artists draw because there's something they want to see that doesn't exist, but they keep drawing because they never reach the moment they have fully realised what they want to see (if they did, then there wouldn't be a need to continue drawing; they have their 'dream' realised). I doubt AI in its current state will realise anyone's dream; they'll keep prompting it to create stuff they want to see and like Miyamoto, it'll not scratch that itch, but it'll probably be better than commissioning another human to create a facsimile of what they wanted.

Just a few days ago, scientists were able to turn blood cells of an 80 yo into neural stem cells with a molecular age of less than 20. My first thoughts were about how inflation and society would be affected by it (possible forced sterilization, raising the age of retirement, old crocks that would eventually be replaced normally get to rule longer) before thinking that you could experience everything the world has to offer, work on projects without having to rush them, be more relaxed that death by natural causes get to happen later in life and life expectancy and extended youth being a new normality.

More and more jobs will get automated, when it gets to the point where surveillance and policing is fully automated then rebellion becomes impossible and you will starve or be culled, no need to placate the masses with UBI or anything at that point.
Savings won't save you either, your private property is only respected because it can be enforced.

Jesus Christ anon, stop with the good points. Next you're gonna say the car industry, another favorite comparison to AI, also created more jobs (to the point that immigrants had to be brought up and taught english and other subjects) than it took and lead to more possibilities compared to AI.

>We, in civilized societies, are rich. Why then are the many poor? Why this painful drudgery for the masses? Why, even to the best paid workman, this uncertainty for the morrow, in the midst of all the wealth inherited from the past, and in spite of the powerful means of production, which could ensure comfort to all in return for a few hours of daily toil?

>The Socialists have said it and repeated it unwearyingly. Daily they reiterate it, demonstrating it by arguments taken from all the sciences. It is because all that is necessary for production — the land, the mines, the highways, machinery, food, shelter, education, knowledge — all have been seized by the few in the course of that long story of robbery, enforced migration and wars, of ignorance and oppression, which has been the life of the human race before it had learned to subdue the forces of Nature. It is because, taking advantage of alleged rights acquired in the past, these few appropriate to-day two-thirds of the products of human labour, and then squander them in the most stupid and shameful way. It is because, having reduced the masses to a point at which they have not the means of subsistence for a month, or even for a week in advance, the few only allow the many to work on condition of themselves receiving the lion’s share. It is because these few prevent the remainder of men from producing the things they need, and force them to produce, not the necessaries of life for all, but whatever offers the greatest profits to the monopolists.

What a technology promises or enables is largely tied to the social context of who owns and controls it. The luddites didn't hate labor saving technology, they hated the ruling class gaining greater leverage over the working public. The ruling class does not like the story to be told this way. It's the same story with AI. Nobody hated it until it became a way for trillionaire jews to consolidate all of human knowledge into a rent-seeking monolith

The single greatest predictor of success when forming a new small business is "recently received gift or inheritance". It's just about access to capital. But I'm not making a statement about political economy or what's wrong with capitalism right now, I'm only pointing out that the Luddites were a political movement, not a technological one. >Nobody hated it until it became a way for trillionaire jews to consolidate all of human knowledge into a rent-seeking monolith
But anon the economy is built on this concept borrowed from communism: planned economy aka "line go up".
Just look at the food industry, for the first time in decades line didn't go up, thanks to fitness culture maintaining a foodhold and ozempic and now they are trying to see how they can make their food addicting even to people on ozempic as well as rebranding products as "glp-1 support/plan".
Or the housing industry, where prices and rent increases because houses are not being built.
>>750264943
>the internet is a great equalizer in its own right
For now.
>>
Adapt or die.
>>
>>750264943
>the internet is a great equalizer in its own right
It is, and you won't hear me saying it's not. The internet is a great example of what the death of capitalism could, in principle, look like, and serves as a fascinating microcosm for how capitalism grows and functions

>starts as a lawless territory where people make things for the joy of making them and share them freely
>as cost realities rise, has enabled an entire economy of self-employed or collaboratively-owned enterprises
>rent-seeking entities use the force of law (via DMCA) to interject themselves into this exchange and extract rents at points of use and transaction (YouTube, social media platforms, reseller platforms like eBay and amazon, etc)

Even with all of that, it's a fact that as the capital barriers to entry in digital fields collapsed (partially thanks to the internet), most of the capitalist structure around them dissolved. Today FOSS software is considered industry leading in many fields. Major publishing industries that once controlled all of entertainment and used that leverage for highly exploitative contracts are getting absolutely obliterated in music, animation, game development, etc.

The story of the internet is the story of capitalism trying to jam its jewish hands into the productive interaction of free people, and free people slowly winning anyway. It's a success story and a beacon of hope. The problem is, it works the way it does because there's no capital barrier to entry. The old capital barrier (Intellectual Property) just got fucking destroyed and nothing could really maintain it effectively. So far we haven't been able to figure out how to do that quite as readily with shit like "money" or "real estate" though, so for most industries things move much more slowly. Granted it also helps quite a bit that information is superabundant, not scarce, so it's much easier to make all this work.

>>
>>750268736
I don't see how. I'm not categorically different from anyone else; if my opinion isn't heavily influenced by some tech youtuber, why should anyone else's be? It seems to me, from observation, that the average person doesn't really agree with the sentiment that AI is good. Which would imply that their opinion is neither aligned with, nor influenced by, the average tech youtuber. I would also suggest that the average tech youtuber's "opinion" is probably for sale, and there are definitely some buyers in the market right now when it comes to AI positivity. So what I see is a paid shill trying and failing to drum up support for some slop that nobody wants.

I think people don't fully understand where the Luddites were coming from. The Luddites were pissed that the power was shifting from individual creatives to large corporations. It's only afterwards do people characterize them as "anti-technology", as they were more accurately described as "anti-corporation" and centralization of economic power via the use of mechanized technologies. Also, the quality of the textiles produced by the machinery was inferior.

If we zoom to today, we can already see the exact same dilemma potentially play out. Sure "anyone" can make a game, but its far more likely the current extremely large and powerful corporations will use this technology to cut staff and shit out inferior products. The large corporations have the brands, and the scale, and the marketing to punch through the noise. There is going to be a sea of copycat, low budget games on steam, and an algorithm is going to create large parts of Call of Duty 57 and Asscreed 21.

Stupid people use AI under the illusion that it makes them as good as the best. They accept its output uncritically because they have no frame of reference for what “good” looks like in what they are trying to do.
Smart, skilled people use AI to do what they already know how to do and understand faster, correcting it where needed to produce what they would have produced on their own anyway.
The narrative that the hard skills that underpin the people in latter case are obsolete is simply a marketing lie to extract money from the people in the former.
It also doesn’t help that the stupid people are incredibly spiteful and think they are hot shit just because they can prompt a chatbot, as evidenced by every single AI thread on this board.

Eurotranny cope for why they’re an irrelevant peninsula of Asia grows more hilarious by the day
>>
Speaking as a 3D guy (for 3D printing admittedly but I am interested in game dev) NGL I like using AI as a tool for troubleshooting and assistance; I don't use it to create the actual product, I prefer to do that myself, but if I run into a problem I can ask "Hey, this is happening, what's going wrong?" or "I'm doing [X] this way, but is there a quicker way?".
That said I have the sense to not necessarily take the robot's advice at face value and to cross-reference it with what I already know.
IDK, there's a solid middle-ground between "AI is incredible and we should use it for everything" and "AI is the devil incarnate and if you have any use for it whatsoever you're subhuman". It has a way to go but it does have genuine practical applications.
Plus, you know, it's not even all that new as tech goes- it's just machine learning and procedural generation tech, but highly developed. The concepts go back as far as computing has been around.

>You imagine this fictional world in the past where creative individuals could exploit the systems of society to make tens of millions of dollars of their creative endeavour. That literally was NEVER a thing until the internet era, social media, personalized mass marketing.
No, I'm simply pointing out that the Luddites' argument was more sophisticated than "technology bad". You are correct to point out that small projects made by small teams have done well in the recent decades, but I think AI is going to wipe those people out. It's going to wipe those people out, and the teams that make the huge games will be slowly hollowed out.

Literally everyone in AI threads who isn't making a modification of an existing game is trying to make a game for money.

This. It'll be easier to make noise, but harder for people to notice the noise you're making. Even worse because marketing wise, you will not be able to post logs about the gameplay features, story, music, and artstyle. By the time you're 60% done someone will just slopily make a clone and flood the market if you allow them too. Might have to return to old-WoW teasers and shadow drop vidya.
Not to mention the constant thought of having to choose between spamming vidya to gamble on making something semi-successful or going out of your way to make something good that might be drowned in a sea of spam.

Fucking retard. It's 1% of the POPULATION that pay 44%.
There's only 1000 billionaires in America, and billionaires specifically pay far far less in taxes relatively (emphasis on relatively). As an example, social security taxes are capped, for no reason. The lowest person in the top 1% is literally nothing compared to the wealth of a billionaire.
Billionaires go so so so so much richer after 2020, that it's no longer the 1% that are the problem, now it's more like 0.001% of the top earners that are the issue.

Creation itself isn't valuable. It's what the process of creation produces that is valuable, and even then that value is massively subjective. There are works of "art" that sell for millions that personally I wouldn't even befoul my anus with as toilet paper.
AI will enable more people to create stuff, even if its involvement is as minor as "Hey Mr. Robot, what ratio of thinner should I use for my oil paint for a glaze?". 99% of it will be shit but 99% of creative output was shit long before AI. The ratio of pure slop to actually good stuff is unlikely to change, there's just going to be more stuff in general, good and bad.

AI is going to enable people to copy an entire game from little more than a prompt. If that is true, then the value of any created product drops tremendously, especially small projects created by a handful of people with no marketing budget. In fact, we are already starting to see this play out right now. I think you are completely wrong about the scale of this. Yes, low quality slop has always existed, but it still required human labor to slop together. Now, a thousand slop creations can be made in minutes at the press of a button. All games will have their hundreds of cheap copies, and the little guys will suffer.

Gun and ball games made by huge studios will not suffer. They will always be pushed to basketball Americans by R&B stars through huge marketing campaigns.

Miyamoto hasn't designed a game in decades. Even his magnum opus that he self proclaimed to be a designer of, DK, was made by Ikegami including the game design. Yokoi had to knock sense into him for Mario Bros and stick to the jumping formula. In SMB for the Famicom, Tezuka did all the fucking work and had to convince him that turning Mario into a side scrolling shooter wasn't a good idea. This man has had no real input in game design yet we are all playing this game of telephone where he still is. Why are we still doing this? I have to disagree with Miyamoto here.
He probably sees it as a lowered barrier easy entry point into making games, but I think it will have the opposite effect, where it sets people up to have wrong expectations.

You can prompt past an absolute beginners skill level instantly but when it comes to creating something actually good and cohesive with it you end up with a lack of overall control and fine tuning. At that point you have to take a step back and actually start working from scratch and build up your fundamentals.
That kind of whiplash is bound to scare people away. Or even worse, they work themselves deeper into prompt only game making and never actually create something good with it.

Corn syrup is objectively a “conspiracy”. The government subsidizes corn growth to prop up US domestic agriculture as a matter of national security (don’t want to be dependent on imports for basic food needs in a crisis) so capitalists figure out ways to force it to be shit it’s not because it’s artificially cheaper to use corn than a better input. Corn Syrup and Corn Ethanol are both highly subsidized products that make high fructose varieties of corn more profitable than they'd otherwise be. No one actually wants Ethanol in the gasoline, it doesn't reduce emissions by much, and it's extremely hard on the equipment we use to make and transport fuel, as well as on the engines that use it. But there's an entire subset of farmers who grow nothing but corn for ethanol, who'd be completely fucked to the point of bankruptcy before they could pivot to another crop, so the subsidies have to stay.
