Was CP77 the best case of a celebrity being used for a video game?
>>

Probably the worst, bum Keanu doesn't fit at all

It’s fine because Silverhand is supposed to be famous and having Keanu starting at you all game provides some verisimilitude along those lines. But I still prefer when known actors just provide their voice.

All way more memorable than Johnny Silverhand. Nothing against Keanu, he put in the work, but the game/character/story sucks. Can't win 'em all.

I think he does a good job, but I think ultimately the game's development was hampered by having him, since I feel like they didn't plan to have the game revolve around Johnny specifically that hard until they got Keanu, and then they pivoted everything towards him.

What, that game doesn't use the VAs from the movies? What a waste of time
>>
>>750257835
disagree
Kenau did well as Johnny, but CDPR gave him fuck all to work with
Johnny has no character arc to speak of - he tries to kill you off at the beginning and actively antagonizes you and yet he's your best bud the entire game.
Pretty sure Johnny was supposed to be more villainous in the first draft only to be tampered down when they got Kenau on board. Guess they forgot to make him likeable in the first place.
>>
>>750259298
He voices Bane, who had a small cameo in the movie which came out almost a decade ago. Also, the Lego Batman video games (and Lego games in general) have existed longer than those generic, semen slurping films. Legacy of the Dark Knight and all but one game (that flopped horribly) in the Lego series are completely unrelated to the that dead film franchise. Thank Christ.
>>
>>750257741
No, it was a detriment to pretty much everything in the game. Johnny is a shit character and it should not have been centered around him.

>>750257741

>>
>>750259346
Johnny doesn't have an arc because he isn't a real person, as the game makes a point of saying. He's a digital imprint made out of a brainscan of a guy who died half a century earlier, he isn't actually growing or changing, and he softens up to V because they share the same living quarters for a long period of time. It's sort of like sharing a college dorm with a shitty roommate, when you see enough of each other you eventually develop some sort of rapport and can get along, it's just that Johnny makes a particularly harsh first impression that then softens considerably
>>
>>750261039
>he isn't actually growing or changing, and he softens up to V

>>750257835
I don't even like Keanu but he was great as Johnny, he sounds like a washed up tryhard, which might be due to Reeves wooden acting, but it totally fits for the role

>>
>>750259346
>Johnny has no character arc to speak of
You kidding me? He literally re-evaluates his life in front of you and learns to let go. I kinda agree with you that sometimes it's implemented wonky - he's with you for the whole game including side quests, so interactions with him don't change that much whenever you antagonize or go buddy-buddy with him, but he still has an ark. By the end he really feels like a bro.

give that it's keanu's best role in his entire life, probably
also had idris elba in the DLC... one may say yes/nah for both separately, but both being in one game? it's obvious
10/10 for effort (7/10 game)

>>750257835

The irony is that Kenau's meme-bike (not built IRL beside a prototype if I remember correctly) was the best handling, best sounding, most enjoyable bike in the game. Much better than the Akira meme-bike etc.
>>
>>750257741
No, the worst. His inclusion caused drastic revision of the game's story and structure and the result is what feels like two very different games mashed together: the open world sunny merc action-rpg, and the dark linear story about johnny silverhand. They don't fit together well in tone or in structure and the transition between them is always jarring. Even the way that the main quests regularly feature V coughing and keeling over with his Relic attacks (which then go away as soon as the main story stuff is over until you do the next main story quest) feel completely at odds with the rest of the game where the Relic never causes problems.

Phantom Liberty worked a lot better because even if Idris Elba was obviously the Keanu of that DLC, it was planned like that from the beginning so the whole thing fit together a lot more coherently.

I really do hope that in Orion if they go the celebrity cameo route again (which I would prefer they don't) they actually have the celeb locked in from the start and we can get something that's tonally consistent.

Wing commander having hamill is funny but I prefer Privateer II: Darkening (real title name) for having fucking Christopher Walken and John hurt, and fucking Clive Owen before he actually had a career. I had about 5 seconds to yell something at Clive Owen once in London and all I could do was say "PRIVATEER 2 WAS SHIT" and he either didn't hear me or know how to react. I doubt he even remembers.

>Insane terrorist David Bowie stuck in you head sounds like it would have been more fun than depressed Keanu Reeves desu.
maybe if u'r a dead horse
>>
>>750261293
It's not wonky. It's non-existent. After the first fight there isn't really a point where he antagonizes you. By player option you can antagonize him for a bit, but then you go to the next mission only to be buddy buddy again. At worst you won't get the Don't Fear The Reaper ending.
And the scene where he cries about his life comes as abruptly as it goes never to be really mentioned again.
>>
>>750257835
absolutely correct, he was the worst part of the game by a significant margin. Not only due to the attempt at edgy writing for his character but the lack of acting range made his delivery of the bad writing come off even worse than it should have. I can't reply the game and enjoy it because of how he ruins the experience.
>>
>>750267723
>he was the worst part of the game by a significant margin.
He's the the only character who really works and has a coherent arc.

The other characters that V encounters are shallow and fleeting, his relationships with them don't amount to much, he helps them with a few errands then they tell V to fuck off in the ending . Johnny's the only character who you really form a bond with.
>>
>>750267913
The difference being that the story has nothing to do with the actor. They easily could have brought in someone actually talented at voice acting and it would have made everything substantially better. Instead we get the same 1-dimensional neo for muh-nostalgia retards who are obsessed with celebrity worship ruining an otherwise competent story
>>
>>750257741
Keanu was dogshit in this.
>>
>>750261039

the issue is that this doesn't fucking happen. one of the first accessible missions after this is delamain and the dialogue in it is like you two are buddies.
