Playing the recomp on my 'eck, perfect performance so far. But holy shit the bosses are abysmal, do they get better? Normal enemis are much more fun to fight
>>
>>750267918
The series is scuffed, only the NES games are good.
>>
>>750267918
The bosses arent that bad imo, but there are a few big stinkers. Believe it or not, its the best boss roster in the whole series.
>>
>>750267918
>But holy shit the bosses are abysmal
No, Murai (the first one) is actually one of the better fights.
The only bosses that are half decent are him, Dokku and the Dopplegangers.
Anything else ranges from whatever (Dynamo, Bone Dragon, Pazuzu) to abortions (The Tank, The Helicopter, Vigoor Emperor).
And this series has consistently awful bosses, brah. 2 has abyssmal bosses with admittedly two or three kino fights.
3 is more of the same.
4 is the first one that actually ahd decent bosses.
>>
>>750269357
>4 is the first one that actually ahd decent bosses.
it's also the game where ryu has only 1 weapon that yakumo can use anyways, rendering him pointless.
>>
Are the graphics for the special effects in the recomp not rendering properly or is it just me. Hit effects and the charging effects on UT seem strange looking, but maybe its my settings
>>
>>750267918
there's a recomp?

Not even them. Just play Castlevania 1 and 3 instead.

Have you considered acquiring proficiency?
>>
>>750267918
asked t he same question yesterday and general responses where tthe bosses are awful for the first three games
I didn't mind Murai since I felt like it was trying to teach you that mashing like a retard is bad and to get some control over Ryu
But the horse guy and the robot thing at chapter 2/3 were boring as shit to me.
>>
>>750269464
Ryu uses it better, has 2 weapons, and has Ninpo
Also getting to a point where Yakumo has DS means you've basically done most everything in the game
>>
>>750269464
There's a NG4 Ryu statue that comes with dual swords, lunar, and tonfas so there's a miniscule chance that the game will get at least one more update but I doubt it.

What's some good generic advice for this series
Like all I know so far is jump less, don't spam flying swallow'
>>
>>750275208
link? his ng4 new weapon was also leaked by a statue
>>
>>750278686
cancel strings into shuriken, jump into shuriken
>>
>>750278686
Use UT
>>
>>750267918
The bosses are alright. Some good, some unremarkable, most easy. They feel like major points in the adventure rather than skill checks where you memorize movesets, suits the game's whole vibe well.
Could be better, but their low quality is overstated. Best boss roster in the series is either this one or 4, but I like this game's variety more, even if 4's are better mechanically.
>>
>>750269540
I've never had an Xbox so I can't compare to the real hardware, but it looks like xenia to me. Maybe the emulator was always broken in those effects.

>>
>>750278686
Unironically, which game are you playing? Because the strategies actually do differ greatly from game to game
>jump less
Never heard that advice before. Jumping is generally great in NG1, though less good in NG2. "Jump less" is probably only really good advice for NG3 where yeah, you probably shouldn't be jumping
>don't spam flying swallow
Again, it depends on the game. Flying Swallow is a great "beginner's crutch" in NG1. People tell you not to spam it and not to use it as a crutch, however, because even by the time you get to Hard mode in NG1 (if you plan on playing Hard Mode), enemies will begin punishing you hard for it. By NG2 and NG3, they basically nerfed flying swallow into the ground, so you're screwed if you never learned how to actually play the game since you can't "flying swallow spam" your way through those games.
>>
>>750267918
Most bosses in the series range from average to awful with a few standout genuinely good ones which are mostly in 3RE. Most of them in the series you have enough room to work with or a specific challenge you can approach to make them passable or at least dealt with quickly, but going against how they are tends to make them feel terrible. Murai for example sucks if you just try to fight him since he can just counter you for free or 50/50 you with grabs, so you just have to wait to punish his flips or use wall attacks. For the most part bosses will get a little better throughout the game and series with a few big drops backwards until you reach 3RE, but they'll always not be the main highlight for the most part.
>>
>>750279743
>good ones which are mostly in 3RE.
holy fuck I'm not even reading the rest of your post after that retarded statement.
>>
>>750279392
Just NG1 so far and will eventually go to master ninja

I liked flying swallow but so far I fucked around in mission mode and it has lag a lot so figured that advice was at least accurate or at least don't spam it at groups of enemies
>>
>>750279947
Putting 4 completely out of the picture, Cliff and all Regent fights are miles ahead of any other boss in the series, it has the best doppleganger style boss, the best helicopter bow boss which is actually decent when the bow is properly integrated with combat. The spider tank is a good miniboss with multiple ways of approaching it which differ in usefulness based on encounter. Its "worst" boss, the T Rex is still far better than any other giant boss in the previous games with several ways to punish it and exploit locational damage. It even has the best spectacle fight. And then almost every decent boss from the previous games is included anyway, only Gamov and the Tengus are the good ones that are missing.
>>
>>750278686
Get the hang of guardbuffering, you can hold guard button during recovery frames of most attacks and Ryu will block whatever comes in contact aside from most grabs (in 1). And then you can counter right after provided the attack didn't break your guard. The downside of guardbuffering is that it also stops you from continuing whatever string you were doing in the moment so make sure to read the room and use it when it's appropriate.

Use left stick to pick the right target when you're shuriken cancelling for crowd control.
>>
>>750275208
i would kneel if they updated the game exclusively to add more ryu content
>>
>>750280403
Not that I disagree with the general point but putting T-rex below the heli is wild
>>
>>750267918
The bosses are not abysmal tired of this shit being repeated all of the time. They are not the greatest thing in the world but there are still a handful of decent fights in the game. The thing about this game is that the combat is done in a way that the bosses should have and kind of had to work in a certain way. They often feel like fighting game fights (Doku, Dynamo, Alma, Murai). But some of the larger fights are fine to me like the skeleton dragon or the one in the ice cave. All of these I just named are at least decent to good although the second alma fight can be a serious bitch imo and is much harder than the first one.

Not saying they are amazing boss fights but I just strongly disagree with this opinion that they are all god awful. Its just not true. I do wish they did fewer fights and made most if not all of them smaller scale humanoid type of fights since the games combat system clearly excels best at that as do the boss fights. Doku is in no way a shitty boss fight its good.
>>
It really bothers me in Sigma how they replace that cool cutscene where he burns down your village and one-shots you with a shitty too early fight that kind of kills the entire intent and vibe Itagaki was going for in the early part of the game. Doku is supposed to be intimidating and seem ridiculously strong. The fact you can fight him and technically win but then have to be forced to lose in storyline is stupid. You already have to fight to a "draw" with Murai in the prior chapter so this was a very unnecessary fight. Goes to show how lost the team was without Itagaki. Fuck Sigma.

>>750278686
using wind path and GT, learn to wind run > wind path > shiruken into on land UTs.
This is the easiest way to stop some fuck from attacking you while you set up an on-land UT. This honestly solve 80% of the encounters. GT is great too obviously, and broken OP in NG4.
You could spam izuna drop but it's the most boring way to play and there's a decent chance to get clapped during recovery.
For boss, dark souls rules applies, find a window and don't get greedy.
Oh and except in NG4, the parries are great in NG, you can counter most ennemies and that gives you iframes so make sure to go for them. It's so retarded how NG4 gives you 3 more ways to parry and every single one of them are way worse.
>>
>>750283002
They're probably about the same to me, but there's a lot of bitching about the T-rex in particular for some reason, hence the "s. I also forgot Lovelace and her clones who are good bosses/minibosses and the mecha dinosaur which is a really clever way to do a boss rush and a decent fight in and of itself.
The Goddess is also not nearly as bad as people make her out to be, every weapon has ways to quickly delimb and OT the fiends, which leads into SoB bait, or you can set it up via Izuna Drop. Ask yourself why in a series where everyone says all the bosses are shit and the mob fights are the best part, everyone cries so hard about the boss that is mainly a punishing mob fight.
>>
>>750284546
what gets me is that when you finally fight him after the water area, they changed his boss theme music to emperor 1 for no reason

>>750286997
It's literary AI-slop ported shit from Sigma 2. The retarded tranny even backported lock-on "fixes" for Sigma 2MC that another modder did (also with AI), which makes no sense, because said lock-on fixes were meant to be "accurate" to og ng2, but obviously the modder just paraphrased shit to the AI from the farnham video so you basically now have glitched lock-on that is neither accurate to og ng2 itself nor even sigma 2 lol.
>>
>>750287963
I don't see it wouldn't. I'm on mission 14 so far and there's no issues. It's been 100% beatable on Xemu already
>>
>>750287274
Sigma feels like a corrupted version of Black. Its not a full desecration but its still very apparent its off and inferior. Sigma 2 they went all out to shit on Itagaki's legacy.
>>
>>750287242
Oh fair point and I am glad someone else finally mentioned how the mech is a boss rush in disguise. Its first phase really grew on me when I realized you can hit its flamethrower with airborne strings when its other arm is busy deploying shockwaves, very funny recontextualization of the tank's moveset.

You don't have to tell me that, lowkey wish the CC had kept at least that part of the fight, optimizing the meter build up with different weapons is oddly satisfying, Lunar especially has some nasty strings when it comes to that so it's all the funnier to see shitters still do the UT strat
>>
>>750288983
sigma 1 is just full of random unneeded changes
honestly I wish it was just graphical and dual swords chucked in as a bonus
>>
Recomps, piracy and emulation are for browns. Play on the orignal hardware with a legit copy or fuck off.
>>
>>750267918
no, ngb has always been a horrible video game.
>>
>>750288742
Xemu had some crash near the end that required a save bypass or whatever IIRC
>>
>>750289004
Don't think I ever tried that one, I'll have to give it a shot one day since it sounds pretty cool. What I started doing was 360ing through the shockwave, feels great to get the timing down and be able to stay in there.

Ah I get you but it's worth saying in general really to emphasize the point against other assumptions. I do also wish CC kept it in because it'd be very interesting seeing how the other characters could tackle that fight. It also makes it funny how they didn't even move the savepoint beforehand with how gruelling the gauntlet becomes, considering as well the new "final" boss does so much damage you'll pretty much always no damage it as a matter of necessity. Speaking of Lunar strings for meter building, the funniest shit in the world is doing the XX>X one on mages, getting to do it again on their dead body makes it so easy to just run True Inferno in days with fights against them.
>>
>>750289516
I think the only reason they even changed it so much was because Microsoft published the Xbox versions right? But still did that mean they had to take a massive dump on Itagaki's versions? Seems like they didn't to me they chose to because they thought they could do better and hated the man.
>>
>>750290117
That's the string I had in mind yeah, it's nuts on pretty much any humanoid as long as you break their legs since they can't defend in that state. Felt like Void was the best pick for that playstyle in particulal, I was basically larping as the battle mage
>>
>>750291302
Yep, I mention mages specifically because of how every hit on them counts double, the game's quirky way of making them give you more Ki than other enemies. I had one time where I used True Inferno, then the very next encounter was all mages, and after the door opened for the next fight I was almost back to full again. Being able to constantly launch Voids is sick but you're almost getting too much Ki to use if you're playing well enough so it starts feeling like it's going to waste, sometimes even without Lunar. That's why in general I like Wind Blades the most, but Lunar makes both Infernos a lot more potent and accessible too. I always appreciate how well it manages to change up the flow of the game and how you approach it, but if I were to be so bold I'd say there's a reason certain people always gravitate to it specifically.

The only actually good boss fight in the Ninja Gaiden trilogy is Regent of the Mask. Everything else ranges from bad to genuine all time worst boss fight. NG4 has a few good boss fights but that game has too many other issues.
>>
>>750292852
Interesting, I never noticed that. Is it reflected in the hit counter as well?
I became redpilled on wind blades a while ago myself and just decided to shake things up a bit during the lunar playthrough, the constant crunch from it and void was too good to pass on and the weapon itself is super strong all around that the potential waste didn't matter much to me
>>
>>750293564
>but that game has too many other issues.
like what?
>>
>>750294441
Yeah the hit counter goes up by 2 each time, that's actually how I figured out what's going on. I'd seen before how mages just gave you more Ki for some reason but wasn't sure how the specifics of it worked. It doesn't apply to OTs though funnily enough so at times it can actually be better doing strings instead if that's what you're after.
Always good to know more people see the light of Wind Blades being the best Ninpo, but as much as I'll say Void is far too overrated it definitely is immensely satisfying to use and land, that moment when you cut through a big all at once is great. Ki buildup is just something I started getting much more cognizant of in my last few playthroughs a while ago, was getting a lot more than I even thought so I wanted to make more use of it, which is where Cicada Surge and Falcon's Eye come in I suppose. Void does lend itself to rapid fire too though.
>>
>>750294508
List of main issues with the game:
Yakumo
Rail grinding sections
Walk and talk sections
The protagonist
Levels all have the style and appeal of an amazon warehouse
Weapons all play the same way
The main character
Enemies are mostly very boring stormtrooper dudes, no ninjas
Re-adds essence into the game and makes it even worse than it was before by removing blue/red essence, so there's no thought or skill behind using essence even, UT spam reaches critical mass
The star of the game
>>
>>750295670
That explains it, I have the hit counter turned off.
On the topic of Ki gain and OTs, only this year did it occur to me how certain finishers on some weapons (Kusarigama in this case) will give next to no meter, mainly the ones that you get from hold attacks and right arm OTs. Discovered this in the worst possible moment where I really needed that Ki for my Ninpo to get done with a UN trial, only to see the meter move by less than an inch after OTing an Alchemist of all enemies, lmao.
>>
>>750297380
Oh man I know what you mean, that sucks and I have no idea why it even happens or how they let it happen, it's like they forgot to make it count as an OT so it's treated as normal attacks. It's not often but it really does have a habit of happening at the worst times, in your case though it sounds like karmic justice for OTing an Alchemist when they have such a free SoB. Assuming it was a shield one of course, if it was a sword one then it's more justification for Demon Cutting.
>>
>>750293564
Nah these NG3RE bosses are so fucking jank and spammy
>>
>>750297960
Hahaha it was the wave with 2 regents and an alchemist and the trial itself took place in his Day7 fight so I felt really pressed to just OT asap. It could be an oversight on their end but I thought this thing sort of makes sense actually, at least it made me use holds less and pay more attention to delimbs in general and always leave enemies for SoB setups if it's the right arm that came off.
>>
>>750299018
That makes sense, I can understand it a bit more then but there's a lesson in there to be found about keeping cool under pressure or something, though I do think it's cool how that keeps OT valuable and viable depending on the situation and what you're up against. It's funny you mention that about paying attention to delimbs because I feel the same way about something else I'm sure is an unintentional oversight, which is the way cutting the legs off of the heavy troopers and ninjas prevents you from SoBing them at all, not just in a chain. Anyway, best of luck with the rest of the trials, I need to get through them myself sometime.
>>
>>750278686
For the first game, expect to pick up bad habits on lower difficulties that you'll have to unlearn later the hard way. Once you play on very hard, the game will start raping you relentlessly. If this happens then you're probably doing something retarded and need to take a different approach. Flying swallow gets punished heavily on high difficulties, and Izuna drop gets hard to spam because of its end lag so don't get used to either. High level gameplay is based around on-landing UTs, so you're going to be jumping and blocking a lot. In general, expect to jump around like a sperg to avoid enemies and position yourself for UTs. If you're jumping you should be abusing wind path and shuriken spam to stun enemies so they don't rape and gape you from off screen when you try to absorb essence. If you're not jumping, you should always be blocking to leave essence behind and block projectiles. Don't stand still like a retard or you'll get grabbed. Rolling and parries aren't super useful in my experience except against certain enemies, so learn when to use them. Learn to use Lunar because certain enemies get fucking rekt by its combo. Master ninja will really make you use everything you have available so don't forget about your other items and projectiles. Explosive arrows and smoke bombs are really useful in some places so don't be retarded and forget about them
>>
>>750300953
Yeah I remember you mentioning the SoB thing with ninjas way back when so I just adopted the approach, lol. Speaking of SoB, how do you feel about fatal flash?
I am probably not coming back to trials any time soon after getting 3 of them done for the achievement but thanks. Just wish the game had a difficulty selector for trials so I could play the mob ones on UN
>>
>>750302224
If you mean from NG4 I've not played it yet. Shit be expensive but it is what it is. I imagine I'll like the game as much as 3RE but for different reasons, can't make any indepth comments on things until I try it for myself though.
Yeah the later ones do get insane without resorting to the usual tricks, which I wouldn't want to do too much either but it'd be nice having them done for the real achievement. Just gotta wait for the inspiration to hit again. Also true about the earlier ones that would be a lot more fun if you could keep those enemy layouts but bump up the difficulty, or maybe even if they were the other way round.
>>
>>750302915
Ah that's a shame, hope you'll get your hands on it soon. Loved the game even tho they fumbled a few things along the way, the reason I mention fatal flash is because it's basically a retooled SoB, and it's very funny how no one seems to realize that, despite parallels being clear as day.

GT is low key one of the most cracked moves in NGB. It doesn't do that much damage and is prone to whiff vs mobile enemies but due to being a grab it ignores iframes.
Also wallsplats deal nigh instant kill damage. Flail XXY double wallsplat kills everything.
>>
>>750304295
It'll be a matter of when, not if since I definitely need to check it out and a lot of what I have seen does look very fun, so hopefully one day. It'll be interesting looking into things like that as well from the perspective of each game as well as it being its own thing naturally. On that note, shitters largely can't even get past their own preconceived assumptions on what NG is or how to play it when approaching different games in the series, no way in hell they're going to spot parallels relating to a mechanic and game they refuse to learn and understand because of those same assumptions.
>>
>>750280403
>the best doppleganger style boss
fuck off. NG3 doppelganger is an insult to its name that doesn't follow player rules since he gets armor on all his strings and is only vulnerable at the end of each combo. Even worse is that the only tech he gets is faking out scythe UT.
Compare that to NGB doppelgangers who used a ton of tech with shuriken/incendiary combos and mostly followed the player's invul rules.
>the best helicopter boss
you mean the one where lock on is so fucked that it will lock on to invul areas?
>spider tank is a good miniboss with multiple ways of approaching it
there is only one viable method of approaching it and it feels jank as fuck to do.
and double spider is a genuine mistake

There are merits to 3RE. It has some genuinely good ideas on combat design (even if the execution is wonky)
but that doesn't mean the bosses are good.
like why would you list all those trash bosses but not goddess prototype which is an actual contender for best boss in the entire trilogy since it's actually purpose built for group fights (minus explosion cloud obscuring the entire area)
