Are they past their prime (or as the kids say these days, washed)?
>>750271000kek
demons souls was their prime and they just got worse from there.
Probablyt. playing DS2 seamless currently It's somehow not as bad as I remember but also much much worse at same time
Technically yes. But only because there is no way to top what they did with elden ring and nightreign.
People only pretended to like their games out of anti-AAA industry contrarianism.
Their last full release game is one of the best video games ever made and Nightreign is pretty good for a spinoff game. Fromsoft are still at their peak.
>>750271804Needed at least 5 more ACs but it was a great game.
>>750271000i think they have one more really great world left in them, that combined with some of the newer movement/combat mechanics theyve been experimenting with (grappling hook, wall jumping, signature moves on cooldown) could be there magnum anus, but it would need a giant non linear city/citadel with some biomes like dark forests, poison swamps, and fishing villages surrounding it as support
Nightreign wasn't on par with Elden Ring. Duskbloods looks like a flop in waiting. I genuinely think they've overextended themselves and need to reign it in and go through some self-reflection.
>washedno one says that unc
>>750272095Its big slang in russia.
elden ring was sort of a thesis statement on everything they learned and applied in dark souls but it also came with the problem that bosses suck for challenge runs or even just fighting them solo because the devs *did* want you to use options like the mimic tier or tiche, basically a large number of bosses were designed for shared aggro and not for solo attemptsnightreign puts a lamp-light on this, you can cope with turbo-aggro bosses easier with the amount of stuns and dedicated defense abilities you have compared to elden ring and in general you're going to be playing with another guy so you're sharing aggro. bosses are much easier than they are in elden ring if your friend doesn't eat crayons
They're just bloated. You can't just read their name on the cover and blindly buy it anymore because it could be one of their shitty teams. The niggas who made Sekiro also made Armored Core VI and that was good, and they haven't released anything since. Will blindly get their next game, did not buy the DLC for Elden Ring or Nightreign, will not buy Duskbloods. You just have to be more discerning.
I knew Elden Ring would be their downfall. Becoming too successful and gaining a normie audience always leads to SHIT
>>750272074NR was a budget title to fill in some lore gaps in ER and try a new playstyle. For a budget game it was great. At worst it demanded too much metagaming. >>750272193Everyone playing ER wrong and bitching was pretty cool.
They surely have enough assets and animations in the bag now that they can just coast making these formulaic rollslop games forever
>>750271000They should go back and do Otogi 3They ran the souls formual to the ground, there's nothing tehy can do after elden ring.
>>750271279Ds2 feels like your floating ingame everything has a slight weightlessness to it. The game feels like a fever dream in some way. Its just very odd and not that enjoyable. But also not bad enough to hate its a 6.8 out of 10 but still a solid game in its own right.
>>750272390They spend too much time hand crafting their games to support some meta lore that 99% of people have missed for 20 years.
>>750272490it's interesting looking at pretty much every later action-RPG entry from fromsoftware and seeing dark souls 2 is the grandfather of basically everything they did afterwards>higher emphasis on multi-stat scaling, including making pyromancy scale off both INT and FAI>dual wielding, DS3 had a paired weapon system to try and reprise power stancing and elden ring brought back power stancing in general (but still has one or two paired weapons in the earlygame for some reason, so i guess reimplementing dual wielding came somewhere around 25%-30% development, early enough still that the only paired weapons in basegame are fists/claws, the ornamental straight swords, and radahn's swords)>separation of equipment load and stamina>fifty fucktillion weapon infusions>genuine attempts at making bleed and poison viable>dark becoming its own damage type instead of sorceries typed as physical damage
>>750271000depends on what they're working onif it's Elden Ring 2, then absolutelythey are at the absolute limit with how far they can push the boss bullshitthey'd have to pivot back to well crafted level design, and I'm not sure they have it in them to get to DS1 levelsnow if they're trying something completely different, that's a different matterit's not guaranteed to work, but it's better than the alternative
All of these threads tempt me to replay the Dark Souls trilogy, but on top of already having played hundreds of hours of those games I already have too many games to play.
>>750271000Peaked with Bloodborne. Demon's Souls was good too, I guess.
