I don't even think there's a law there that is actively enforced when it comes to pirating but you'll have a bunch of the nips riling up drama whenever some jap eceleb or whatever gets caught pirating but you never hear any news about them actually getting arrested or fined

how is this even a question.
Maybe in the original japanese it's worded "is it ok to murder" but written "is it ok to kill", well yes, I can think of lots of situations where it's ok to kill. Even in japan there's self defense laws.
Not to mention I guarantee they're ok with killing if it's the state telling them to do it.

I don't want to hear this from someone living in a country where capital punishment still exists. Japanese people are literally fine with killing as long as the government is the one doing it.
>>
>human analogy
False equivalence. A publicly traded company is not a person. They should not be treated or seen as a living person. People may work for a company, but the company itself is not a person. It does not have a soul. It does not have a heart or emotions. It does not hold compassion for anyone. The company is a conceptual machine that only lives to make as much money as possible by any means necessary and will even break the law to do so if it thinks it can get away with it. They should not be trusted, praised or shown any amount of love or loyalty, as they will exploit anything and everything to make a profit.

It's easy for succesfull people like Rape Gayman to claim something like "piracy helped". He's not going to lose his mansion over it.

Same deal with someone like Notch. Definitely won't care if you pirate Minecraft.

But there ARE a lot of devs who do care, and to them it matters that their games actually get sold, and not just pirated. It's part money, part morality. (The japs are mostly in this camp.)
>>
>>750275890
But right wing wants everyone to be Christian, no one to be gay or have tattoos or colored hair, want everyone to have traditional jobs, want women to stay in the kitchen while the man is the provider, and basically want society to have very strict rules just like the Japanese. You're frustrated that someone else doesn't share your values and want them to conform. You'd get closer to your wish if society was more like Japan
>>
>>750276482
So it's okay for me to steal, as long as someone (else) keeps buying?

I don't personally share that philosophy, and I think it's curious how many "gamers" try to justify their piracy by saying that surely someone else will buy it, so it doesn't matter!
>>
>>750273510
This is the ideal goylem form. You may not like it but it's peak cattle behavior. America spent 2 nukes domesticating the Nips into being servile in nature. They will defend all gaming companies with their lives. They won't even get a PC because it's where the evil piracy hides.

Copyright in civilized countries is ostensibly meant to encourage creating new media (it mostly just allows publishers to have a monopoly, consolidate and fuck over authors), if respecting copyright leads to the destruction of media, then it is not fulfilling its stated purpose and should be ignored in favor of the more important laws that it is abridging like freedom of speech and the press.
>>750274247
The USA is a shithole that stopped being a republic because it no longer follows a ratified constitution. They're ignoring the limitations that the copyright clause imposes on the laws congress can pass out of sheer supreme court fiat.
They abused the situation of international copyright to constantly ratchet their copyright law into an abomination.
>>750274983
Copyright was a shitty French law that did the exact opposite of what it set out to do and only benefited publishers who could now demand more money per book, but it's obviously never going to get rolled back because it helps government censorship.
>>750275982

Piracy generally won't hit inside your target audience unless you are really bad at selling things. And if piracy hits outside your target audience, then that's FREE MARKETING and boost discovery of your other work.
How do you think these people became successful? They're not default successful.
>>750276715
You're not stealing anything, your actions have no negative impact whatsover but can have second order positive consequences.
>>
>>750277546
>But if it HAD been, would it have been LESS of a success?
Yes and this can be demonstrated with the rise of manga in the west. Until tokyopop popularized releasing localizations that had little to no edits to great success, many publications struggled to sell manga and many readers preferred pirated copies that were for the most part superior to official localizations.
>>
I don't get why they dislike emulation.
It offers free marketing and community building in the longterm, bolstering a franchise's reach.
Even in the worst case scenario where a developer loses out on a sale, having greater access to the game means more people posting about it, with more obsessed people building the games clout online.
Even in situations where it is a financial issue and poor people can't buy it, this actually strengthens the argument for emulation, as the business never potentially lost a sale, they just increased their marketing team for free.
This doesn't even take into account modding and romhacking communities that spread out from emulation, bringing in even more interest.
The final anti-emulation argument asks states, "If everyone did it, then businesses would get no sales." At that point, however, this is a distribution problem, not an issue of cost or malevolence. If a bunch of people are emulating their game, then they want to play it, the question then is, why didn't they put in the effort to go through the proper channels? The developer would have to ask themselves where they failed to properly deliver their product to their audience, such that people would rather go to obscure hobbyist websites to download it rather that get it directly from the creator.

Emulation is a net positive for the games industry. It's free marketing, makes creative sub-communities, and promotes a virtuous cycle for positive attention for the developer and their works.
>>
>>750273510
Actually alot of japs have learned about EA and have decided it's okay to pirate from western companies because the devs don't actually get Amy money from purchasing the game.
And then there's the 40+ old otakus who have always been pirating but keep that shit on the download cause illegal.

>Copyright was a shitty French law that did the exact opposite of what it set out to do

>You're not stealing anything
>your actions have no negative impact whatsover
If I steal something from you, but you won't notice or miss it, does it make it okay?
>>
>>750278398
>I don't get why they dislike emulation. It offers...
You're providing a consequentialist point of view when talking morality. Thing good because it leads to good outcome. The Japanese are going for a deontologist approach. Thing is good or bad in a vacuum, the consequences of thing are secondary. You're talking past each other. By the way, philosophers don't have a consensus and both approaches have flaws.
>>
>>750278581
Improper analogy as piracy does not remove anything from the game studio it would be more like.
>if I create a exact replica of something you have but don't care about and never reveal it to anyone is that morally okay?
>>
>>750273510
The market exists to serve the needs of the people, people do not exist to serve the needs of the market.
>>
>>750278581
You're presuming that the dev was owed that sale to begin with. The vast majority of pirates just wouldn't have played the game if piracy wasn't an option. And a lot of those people are going to buy the game, or future games from the dev, if they liked the pirated copy. I know because I'm like that, without piracy existing I doubt I'd have spent 1/10th of the money I have on videogames.
>>
>>750273510
The Japanese are a very matter-of-fact people. They don't fall for most Western leftist nonsense because that stuff requires you to think outside the box. They see leftists make video game girls ugly and think, "Why wouldn't you want girls to be cute?" They see white guilt cucks crying about needing to give brown people free stuff and think, "Why don't they just go earn it?" Their thought process is so obvious and concrete, they can't wrap their heads around all this social justice or progressive nonsense.

That's also why they're so baffled by piracy. Stealing is a crime. Trying to justify piracy requires jumping through hoops and they don't do that. Any pirate claiming that what they do is morally right is simply a sophist. Piracy is wrong, you just don't want to pay for the game. Which is fine, I don't want to pay for things either, but don't pretend you're not the bad guy here - you absolutely are.

There are Japanese people who pirate and steal and hack their games, but they don't fucking announce it on social media. That'd be retarded. It's not a socially accepted thing and shouldn't be. I'm a lolicon but I'm not spamming loli porn on xitter, are you crazy? Normalizing that behavior would be a bad thing because normalfags will get into it and ruin everything. We're supposed to be the underbelly of society, not in the spotlight.
>>
>>750278838
>And a lot of those people
I highly doubt that. Pirates always justify their kleptomania by saying that they wouldn't have bought it anyway.

Yet they somehow still feel entitled to get the experience for free...
>>
>>750278581
>Bad translations are a different can of worms
I'm not talking about bad translations. I'm talking about things like flipping the pages around for a more traditional left-to-right western format or translating onomatopoeia so that readers can actually read what sounds are being made. Most readers actually prefer sounds to be kept untranslated, as it turns out.

And this very situation mirrors what's going on here. It's a well known fact that people who regularly play fighting games online prefer rollback over delay-based netcode, so an old game now having it has naturally brought their attention. There are most likely people who've never played Tekken 6 before who are now interested in buying it officially because of this attention.
>>
>Steal
Pirating a game is not stealing
Additionally, if the video game is not officially available on a specific device (incl PC) then the company has already decided they're not interested in the business of users of that device, making complaints about piracy on that device entirely irrelevant
>>
>>750279097
There have been multiple studies done into the effects of piracy on sales and the result is always that the impact ranges from negligible to positive
>>
>I hate this game so I will pirate it
What is the logic behind this? I wouldn't watch a shitty movie even if I got it for free.

That's a good insight. Thank you for clarifying.
From what I understand, I to persuade them I would have to argue that emulation is good in a vacuum then?
I don't agree with the Deontologist approach as it opens up the question of how to determine good or bad in a vacuum without starting with a fiat declaration and reasoning from there.
>>
>>750280764
>without starting with a fiat declaration and reasoning from there.
Yeah, that's the thing. I think for Kant himself you start with God. I think from the Japanese point of view it's a mix of tradition, the state and religion. I'm more of a virtue ethics guy and have no idea how to convince a deontologist.

>I'm more of a virtue ethics guy and have no idea how to convince a deontologist.
For this topic, I'd like to try.
A piece of art is constructed for two reasons: the creator finds joy in creation, or the creator creates so that others may enjoy the creation.

If the former is true then the Japanese should be content in the creator creating. Emulation would be neutral in this case because it does not affect whether the creator creates.

If the latter is true, then the Japanese should be happy that a creation is being shared, as the creation fulfilled its purpose in reaching more people. Emulation would be good in this case, as it assists in fulfilling the purpose of art in this case.

So either Emulation is neutral or good, but never bad.

It got ignored for a reason
>>
>>750280720
>Or could it be that the studies are actually flawed? Hmm!
BTW, the ONE study that says Denuvo works was written by a former Denuvo employee looking at nothing but surveys and news articles (since he couldnt get any official sales reports). And it doesnt take the costs of Denuvo contracts into account. AND he had to limit the release window scope to just a month after release because past that point he couldnt reach hard enough to connect anything
But Im sure you'd say that's a perfectly trustworthy and well structured study ;)

No. Christianity is a failure of a religion, a mutant remnant of the decaying Late Roman Empire. We need a new religion to replace it, one that is resistant to Christianity's objective failure points, a religion of our own people, with no tie to any desert sand peoples.
>no one to be gay
Yes. Faggotry should be driven out of society.
>or have tattoos or colored hair
Tattoos and unnatural hair colors are ugly on women. Women have a duty to make themselves as beautiful as possible.
On men, in and of themselves they aren't a problem, but they signal membership in the group of trash people.
>want everyone to have traditional jobs,
No. This is where I break from "the right". Work for work's sake is stupid.
>want women to stay in the kitchen while the man is the provider,
Yes, men and women should have separate roles in society. Men should rule, women should serve.
Ideally there should only be two professions for women: 1) Wife/Mother 2) Whore. Society needs both. Class 1 women as virgin brides for men to reproduce and bear children with, class 2 women for recreational purposes, as rewards for men who serve society.
>and basically want society to have very strict rules just like the Japanese
A little stricter than now on certain things, but in a different manner.
