Now that the rust has settled, what went wrong?
>>750280502Three parts is too few. I don't understand companies like Disney deciding everything needs to be a trilogy and shit. Like for Starcraft 2, they could have did Terran, Zerg, Protoss, Xel Naga, Zerg, Protoss, Terran, with episodes of Ghost and such inbetween. It could have been much more grandiose and kept the hype going.
>>750280502Super Saiyan Kerrigan
Nothing went wrong. What do you mean?
>>750280502>engineered super psionic giant warrior, super psionic mutated human, and.... jim
Heart of the Swarm went wrong.Legacy of the Void part 2 went wrong.Everything else was fine.I never once played pvp.
>>750280502yaaas queen darlin HotS had the best campaign but the worst storywhat the fuck happened to Stormgate? did they just fire the network programmers as soon as they got something running on the servers?
>>750280502came out way to late under different owners.
>>750280502too many missions on a timer
>>750280502So much went wrong with it. First off, all the bad guys work for the same uber bad guy, which means that if you take a moment to re-think about WoL, you will realize how stupid it all is:>Mr. Raynor, the Moebius Corp requires your assist to take the Artifact from the Taldarim before Kerrigan does. Now, remember that Moebius, Kerrigan and the Taldarim work for Amon and it becomes:>Mr. Raynor, Amon's minions require your assis to take the Artifact from Amon's minions before the Amon's minions do.The game tries to build a mystery, but it's just plain stupid.Heart of the Swarm's problem is that it tried to turn Kerrigan from the pragmatic Queen Bitch of the Universe into a loving strong woman with no actual strategy other than being angry at Jim's death, even after finding out that he's alive.>"Hey, Kerrigan. Jim is alive and well. How about we take the dark god who is trying to destroy the universe?">"No can do. I must have my vengeance on Mengsk for killing Raynor, who is alive and well."And then we start Legacy of the Void having to avoid her because she is now in hurry and can't wait a few moments and will attack anybody on her path.Another problem I have with HotS is that it doesn not have the least bit of dark tone that the Zerg is supposed to carry.LotV is just there narratively. My biggest complaint is that we got nothing from the Protoss society. It's lore-less and they are just going with the narrative motions. Alarak is a scene-schewing bastard, but that's it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_XwzBMTJaMat least the cinematics are cool
>>750280832nah, sc2 looks like a moba so it gets tiresome after a while
>>750280502Not made by the same company that made the original, many such cases
>>750280845ThisThe powerscaling became so ridiculously high in the third part, it was like watching gurren lagann again.Stories don't have to end with "omg the entire reality will vanish if u don't save the day", lower stakes are perfectly fine
>>750280502SC2 is kino, I play custom games several times per week and it’s always fun. Usually megaton 4v4 which is much more spicy than 1v1 since it plays like an entirely different game. It’s fun since lots of the time I run into the same people who also like 4v4 matches, so there’s a funny little meta
>>750280502Economy crisis of 2008 which got Activision to force the game into being a trilogy.>https://www.shacknews.com/article/55267/starcraft-2-now-a-trilogyThis fucks with the fans and the devs alike.People who were otherwise set up to get an amazing Starcraft 2 and instantly shift production to Warcraft 4.Instead Starcraft 2 became a forevergame. This killed all passion and destroyed the RTS team built over like 10 years to revive RTS production at Blizzard. And just plain whimpered out because Starcraft is not a universe that can sustain so much lore. It's rather simple sci-fi shlock and by LotV everyone was already sick of it.
>>750284075Thank you K-On anon. I wanted to post this gem but couldn't find it.
Speaking of, which people got "killed" with the SC2 team becoming a ballchain?Dustin Browder (RA2, Generals) from C&C was the lead designer of SC2.David Kim (DoW1, CoH1) from Relic was the lead balance dude of SC2.I know they poached some people from GPG (SupCom) as well.Any folks from then-murdered Ensemble?
Damn, Starcraft 1 and 2 are no longer going to run on Windows 7/8 in a week or two.I think it might be time to upgrade but it's the worst time this century to buy a new computer.Fucking Blizzard, why can't they do what Steam does and simply no longer update but still allowed to run and buy and install and leave it up to the user to manage compatibility?
