Just saw Brian De Palma's Blow Out and its crazy how blatantly the Hitman franchise just lifted the character of Agent 47 from this movie. It's mostly all here. The piano wire, the disguises, the impersonations, the improvisational weaponry.Post other examples of video game influences
silent hill 2 is a jacob's ladder ripoff, to the point where I wouldn't call sh2 more original or thoughtful than mario jumpin on koopas. SH1 is different but if you watch jacob's ladder you will genuinely never see SH2 as anything but a dumbed down SH1 with a stolen story
Kurt Russel was offered the role of Naked Snake in MGS3 but turned it down because he thought it was too much of a rip-off kek
Maybe it's just me but this scene always gives me Meta Gear Solid vibes and makes me wonder if Kojima was inspired by it.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbyeLDfByV4
>>750283259I started watching foreign films in my watchlist recently and it's crazy how much Le Pacte Des Loups inspired Bloodborne
The Last of Us is a blatant rip-off of Children of Men and it drives me nuts people say it isnt just because they replaced infertility with zombies. The premise and storybeats are almost indentical otherwise
>>750283919Ghost in the Shell is one I wonder about the timeline about. Like how much Yoji Shinkawa was inspirted by Shirow's mech designs and Major and Snake having the same combat suit. I assume they both happened to have the same ideas and themes about emerging technology.
>>750284085This is the first time i've thought about this -- you are 100% correct- aging protag- fishes = fireflies- a child/adolescent who tags along that has "the cure"
>>750283919What the fuck happened to Michael Bay man, he was a somewhat competent director at one point
>>75028325999% of Japanese media (shows, games, novels) is copied from old American movies and TV shows.50% of American video games are inspired by old American or European movies and TV shows. 99% of Korean and Chinese media is ripped off from Japan or America.
>>750283259I don't have an example OP, but I also watched this recently and thought the same thing. Great movie. Sad ending. "What did you think of that scream?" ;_;
>>750283919Wow great shout. MGS2 Gurlukovich's men taking over the tanker definitely feels inspired by this.
>>750283259Surfing /v/ for games, got recommended a movie I never heard of.Thanks, OP
>>750285730Its De Palma's best work imo. The fact that Scarface became a cultural juggernaut while this movie is mostly forgotten is a fucking tragedy.
>>750283627>silent hill 2 is a jacob's ladder ripoffAlmost, it's a 50/50 of Ladder and Lost Highway.
>>750283687Extremely based of him.
>>750283687>>750283919This one is a classic when bringing up MGS.https://youtu.be/8JL4JXEv-RY?si=QWSfJkXFKmmULMwFIn Kojima's defense he legit didnt know and stopped using the theme after MGS3, which is shame since its great
Metroid is obviously influenced by Alien, also Doom was originally supposed to be an Alien game but they couldn't get the rights, hence the futuristic space setting
>>750285730Watch this one and then The Conversation
>Boss Baby thread
>>750283259He's not bald.
>>750288294Moadra is Metroid but even more Alien
>>750288965If you have that hairline you're spiritually bald already
>>750289279Nah, a real baldy would OWN it. Combovers and receding hairlines need not apply. Totally different character.
>>750287096I always thought that was overblown. The original MGS1 version of the song barely sounded like the Russian song. I doubt TAPPY had even heard of it. It was only the slowed down remixes from MGS2 and 3 that sounded somewhat similar
Ive never seen a suppressed shotgun in a game before No Country For Old Men came out, afterwards lots of games started having them
>>750283997Is the english dub any good? I wanna watch it with a burger friend
>>750283259Burke is much more of a creepy sex pervert though (classic De Palma) and is only superficially similar to 47.>>750283627Not really, again more of a superficial similarity wherein a protagonist experiences unreality and horrors as a result of guilt. Might as well call it a rip-off of Macbeth or "La chute de la maison Usher" (1928).>>750283687Also only superficially similar, like nothing about Metal Gear bears any similarity to Escape from N.Y. other than Snake's appearance and name.>>750286260The actual correct answer is Body Double though.
>>750283259aww, he's gunna help her floss
>>750290912>Two different things carry very similar characteristics and its highly unbelievable that the latter was not inspired by the former>UHM ACHTUALLY THEY'RE NOT EXACTLY THE SAME ONLY SUPERFICIALLY SIMILARI bet you argue about metal subgenres online fag
>>750283997>Le Pacte Des LoupsLIESI watched it expecting BloodBorne but all they stole was the cool costumes
>>750290251They had just had to remove plagarism for the Metal Gear 1 and 2 releases for Subsistance so it was probably a sensitive topic
>>750283259jc denton was definitely based off early pre-fat steven seagal
>>750285067Spielberg (executive producer) forced him to make Transformers movies for a decade
>>750283627silent hill 1(and fatal frame 1) are about haunted locations/alternate dimensions controlled by female vengeful adolescents ghost who had some sort of event/ritual tramua done to them>>750284085the fungus zombies are a redo of the flood from halo
>>750283259Someone should make a game like Hitman except instead of a hitman you're just a serial killer stalking women
>>750295263Kek
>>750283259Bit of a stretch
Alien inspired A LOT of Japanese games back then.
>>750283627close. silent hill 1 was inspired heavily by jacobs ladder and 2 was inspired heavily by both lost highway and crime and punishment. its very obvious when you watch lost highway how the plot is almost 1:1. also, some scenes in SH2 are ripped straight from blue velvet, like the apartment room scene with pyramid head and the mannequins
>>750284085the last of us always felt like such a generic made-for-TV zombie flick that i have no idea how anyone celebrated it for any semblance of originality. so generic its insane.
>>750290398It's not how a suppressed shotgun is supposed to sound, but the sound of it in the movie really made it especially gutsy.
Influence vs reference vs homage
Clock tower and Phenomena
>>750300305she just isn't very attractive
>>750300473you are very gay
>>750300473nah she cute
>>750300849mid
>>750283919Was one of the main influences, along with Judge Dredd (clones of the greatest Judge, brothers battling each other), and Ghost in the Shell.
>>750300849You know he could just be a different race. I find women of other races pretty unattractive. You know like a dog can look at a girl dog and think, im going to fuck that, but most of us just see a dog
>>750292360at least it had a sword-whip kind of weapon
Chris' design is just Stallone from Daylight. RE was obviously Dawn of the Dead and Aliens, but also the often forgotten Outbreak which deals with a viral outbreak, helicopter finale, and impending government action to nuke the town
>>750300473Your T levels are fucked my nigga
>>750301212>mpending government action to nuke the towni was thinking its return of the living dead
>>750303059Yeah, more accurate since they actually deploy it there. Just the timing of Outbreak ('95) and RE2 ('98) feels more obvious. Like Leo from Titanic ('97) and Leon in RE2 as well.
>>750283259Have you just never been exposed to any fiction about assassins before or something? I can't even tell if this is a serious post or not.
>>750283259I've been marathoning movies recently since vidya is dead, and like 90% of my favorite games are just rip offs of classic movies
>>750299969It's generic but it's told really well through gameplay
>>750286260Tbf Scarface is fucking incredible. It's one of the few movies I wish I could have experienced in the cinema at release. I'm going to check out Brian De Palma's Blow Out, thanks for the heads up anon.
>>750283919I watched The Rock for the first time last year and immediately felt the same way.
Lorelei and the Laser Eyes cribs a lot from Luis Bunuel's work
Mass Effect is just Babylon 5
>>750295774The only thing I remember about Transformers is that Megan Fox was apparently such a terrible actor that she had a body double for her characters most iconic scene because she just refused/couldn't follow basic directions half the time. Her breakout role and she wasn't even doing the acting in half her scenes lol It's a very funny rewatch to see when the BD is swapped in and out.
>>750299785No R-Type?
>>750305024embarrassing that it took you this long to realize. see you in 10 years when you discover the world of literature.
>>750306686Lol and I thought the boss sprite itself was shameless, this is basically 1:1 the xeno.
>>750299785>>750306686Starcraft too
>>750304552Outbreak the movie was based off the Hot Zone the book that actually happened. Pretty sure Richard Preston didn't want the nuke bullshit at the end.
>>750299785Giger also inspired BLAME
>>750310581
>>750310623
>>750310652
>>750310581sure, but i think its easier to just see that Blame! is mainly just inspired by vignettes of brutalist spaces that make them look like total, all encapsulating spaces that infinitely stretch both vertically and horizontally. the term "concrete jungle" kind of encapsulates the feeling already.
>>750283259Hitman was made intentionally to be Blow Out: the Video Game.
