I've finished playing this videogame (one too many times, to get the true ending) after seeing people on /v/ praise its level design and talk about the strange kind of censorship it got. It's basically a soulslike, though not rollslop (since it's a sidestep here), set in the transition between Chinese dinasties (plus bird demons and magic).>+the levels look pretty and while at first they seem labyrinthine you get used to them>-no really weird levels like the Crystal Caves or Ash Lake>-not many shortcuts connecting the levels>+/-God please not another Asian style village/castle>+a way to learn some ching chong history>+the combat is kind of like discount Nioh and the game solves some of the "when is it my turn to play" thing with bosses by giving you charges when you dodge correctly or land attacks. You use those to empower attacks/spells, a ton of which either have i-frames/clash>-massive filter boss at the end of chapter 1>-tiny weapon variety, they all share movesets (not abilities)>-90% of weapon infusions suck>-forgettable OST>+some of the non-human enemies have cool designs>+Wuchang (the MC) is hot and has some sexy armor sets>-Wuchang is not very interesting and most of the mistery in the story is about her >-the game had some nationalist censorship because of Han Chinese butthurt (in practice it mostly means some historical enemies you beat don't die)>-a ton of reduntant systems that only add or reduce 5% damage (rings/accesories included)>+/-the warp map shows you NPC quests, but even so, it uses the Dark Souls quest system, so the warp map is showing you how to do busybody or fetch quests>+the final area is cool, it's like an Indiana Jones movie but with more human sacrificeAll in all a 6.5 to 7.0 game, for if you're starved for another souls game. What I liked the most were the hit-and-run or run-and-hit spells with clear i-frames, to prevent some of those "when is this boss stopping flapping around" moments.
