How does extranet /v/ feel about the potential Human/Batarian/Krogan team up in the now canceled Mass Effect Universe? Mass Effect 1 is my favorite game of all time, so I have a lot to say about the subject. For context, I am glad Bioware is shut down, as I don't trust them at all to continue the series after their decade of utter failure and the dumpster fire that was Veilguard. I'm not being a contrarian, and I'm not defending Bioware as a whole, just this idea. Pls no "shut up woke fag" tnx. Let's put the politics aside and talk vidya for a minute. I think setting the game 600 years in the future is a stupid idea as well. It's too far removed from the main games, and forces 1 ending of 3 to be canon. If it were up to me, the game would be set in that 2 years Shepard was dead between 1 and 2, but I digress. Here's my massive wall of text.

>Batarians and Humans absolutely hated eachother in the original trilogy, yes, but 600 years have passed and it makes sense that attitudes can shift in that time. America nuked Japan twice and had one of the most brutal uncivilized wars ever seen with them, and they were friends like 20 years later. France and England were sworn enemies for like 1,000 years, and became homies eventually. Does Earth's political landscape look exactly the same as it did in the 1400s? Just because they hate eachother now, doesn't mean they have to after 600 years.
>Batarians were hit the hardest in the Reaper War, as the Reapers first emerged in Batarian space, and their homeworld was leveled pretty much instantly. Their old government is completely gone. Human space and Batarian space are literally right next to eachother, so close that most of their beef with Humanity was Humanity colonizing worlds so close to them. After being devestated like that, they almost certainly turned to their closest neighbor for help, and with their government gone, and Humans helping them rebuild it, it makes perfect sense that their attitudes and political identity would shift, especially with their attitude on Humans. We even got hints of this in ME3, pic related and running into the terrorist from ME1 again on the Citadel, and potentially giving him a pep talk about putting aside your differences to face a greater enemy.
>The Blue Suns were primarily Batarian, but they allowed humans to join as well. Even at its worst, their relations weren't so bad as to not even be able to be in the same room together. "Those are just thugs! They don't care about politics, just murder, piracy, and slaving!" You might say. Fair point. It at least shows when they have a common goal, they can look past the rivalry and work together, and rebuilding a near extinct species is a pretty good goal to work towards.
>>
>>750293546
>A lot of people are saying the Batarians should be extinct after their homeworld was razed, and the Citadel where most of their refugees escaped to was fucked. If the Batarians had massive swaths of the galaxy under their control, that would be stupid, yes, but we can't confidently say they were completely wiped out. There were likely VERY few of them left when the dust settled, so they should only have a small handful of worlds in the new setting. I won't say it doesn't make sense for them to even be there. This also ties back to my earlier point about the Hegemony being destroyed, and having to rebuild from scratch, and almost certainly viewing the galaxy in a different light afterwards. Human controlled worlds are likely the place most living Batarians were left after everything. There are pirates and gangs in the outer reaches of the galaxy, but the ones who want an actual society were probably mostly on Human worlds.
I know it's a meme to hate Batarians, but it just makes too much sense lore wise for them to be tight with Humanity after the Reaper War. I see 0 problem with that idea honestly.

>Shepard was the one who cured the genophage (assuming you chose to. They would probably make that choice canon, let's be real.) so it makes sense for them to see humanity as their greatest ally, especially since they weren't around at all when the genophage was created, and the council races were, so they carry no blame in that regard.
>The genophage couldn't have been cured without Mordin, so some might say that the Krogan would forgive the Salarians somewhat, but the Salarian government urged Shepard to sabotage the cure. The Krogan would likely find out about this, and they would hate the Salarians even more than they already did, furthering deepening their distance from the council and driving them closer to humanity. There was also the revelation that the Salarians continued modifying it to make sure the Krogan could never evolve past it, and the bombs embedded in Tachanka as a last resort if they rose up again.
>Shepard simply did too much for the Krogan people for them to not love humanity. Not only curing the genophage, but helping out Grunt, who would probably be a legend, and killing the tresher maw in his trial. (They'd make that canon too.) There were probably millions of Krogan sons named Shepard after the Reaper War.
The Krogan are barely more than animals, and they deserve the genophage honestly, but again, it makes too much sense for them to be close with humanity.

>Why would humanity have beef with the council, especially after Shepard and the Alliance navy are the ones who stopped Sovereign and the rest of the reapers once they fully invaded? I don't know. I can't think of any reasons for this to be the case, really.
>Humans got a seat on the council extremely quickly after being introduced to the galaxy, and many saw that as a cheap power grab while the council was weak. Udina turned out to be a traitor, and the Illusive man, a human, was a great asset to the reapers in the end. They always looked at Shepard with suspicion, even after he stopped Sovereign, but I don't think they'd be able to keep that up after he stopped the rest of the reapers.
>They MIGHT be able to say, "he was just protecting Earth, not the galaxy," and some people did a few times in 3, and point towards Udina and Illusive Man as proof humanity sucks? Shep was also framed for killing the Salarian councilor by Kai Leng and Udina.
A lot can happen in 600 years, and I don't think even current age Bioware would be dumb enough to not explain... well, maybe they would be. This point, I'm not sure about one way or the other. It's been a LONG time, so things can change, and I don't have much of a reason to hate this idea, but I can't defend it too much either. Just not enough info for a concrete opinion.

>The Geth were said to be a superpower once more, so it's implied they're back to being evil again. It was described as a cold war, tho, so maybe not? The fact the Quarians weren't mentioned as a big player in the galaxy has me thinking they may have just gone evil mode again.
>The Quarian pictured in the trailer is still in his enviro-suit, implying they weren't able to work past the need for that. Maybe they can be outside of it on Rannoch, just not the rest of the galaxy? It does somewhat imply that the Geth and Quarians weren't able to get along afterall. I don't have enough info to say that is the case, but if it were, I'd be fucking pissed. So stupid and lazy to just have them be evil again and undo everything.
The Human/Batarian/Krogan alliance I'm fine with, but if Tali was robbed of her home on the homeworld, I'd drive my car through Bioware's lobby and light myself on fire. I could get into the technology not advancing debate as well, but I've already written all this shit, so maybe later. Thanks for reading all this, faggot.

once again I forgot this board is actually for video game discussion just ragebait and softcore porn
>>
>>750293481
>Batarian
Disgusted, but moreso because they forgot that the species as a whole was basically over, the fact that they planned to let them recover was horrible news
>>
>>750293481
Should be Alliance/Krogan under Urdnot Grunt/Quarians under Admiral Shepard vas Tali'zorah

The OG Council races stick together

No other third faction, just pure Cold War
>>
How the hell do you even go about writing a sequel that accommodates each ending of ME3? I think it's literally impossible. You'd have to adopt one ending as canon or just blatantly ignore massive parts of the world.
>>
>>750296235
I don't think it would make sense to have a cold war during the lifetime of the game's characters. The Reapers just devastated and nearly purged the entire galaxy and the mass relays were shut off. They would need a lot of time to rebuild. It could be a cold war because nobody wants to fight again after going through the reaper war, like how the USSR and UK didnt go to war despite wanting to because they just finished up WW2 and didnt want another. I think setting the game any time after 3 is just a bad idea honestly.
>>
>>750293481
That pic made me laugh so fucking hard hahahah!
>>
>>750296402
that's why I wouldnt do it lol. Probably why they set it so far in the future, that's the only way they could get away with ME3's ending without butchering the entire lore and story
>>
>>750296402
just do destroy and pretend the geth survived because some were hiding outside the milky way at the time

everyone hated the ending anyways
>>
>>750296402
I think their plan was to retcon synthesis so its like just cyberpunk style implants instead of the glowing green shit. Control could be handled by just saying that reaper tech got powercrept in 600 years and the shepard ai got cucked by some new space laser
>>

>I don't think it would make sense to have a cold war during the lifetime of the game's characters. The Reapers just devastated and nearly purged the entire galaxy and the mass relays were shut off.
uwotm8?

post ww2 was tons of spies and double agents trying to outkike one another, even amongst """allies"""

everyone was out there for their bloc and for their country, even former hated enemies (natzees) were heavily employed and used by all sides who can afford them (even da joos, egyptians, syrians, arabs, etc)

murrica fucked up the uk and france with the suez crisis and in response bongland ignored america's pleas to join its countless wars until desert storm

africa was constantly switching sides between west and commie blocs
>>
>>750293749
I actually did read it all but have no thoughts to share.
>>
>>750296719
Like I said, I know the Cold War started like immediately after WW2, but the Reaper War is like a trillion times more destructive and the mass relays, the galaxy's FTL travel, were shut off. When I was a kid and I first saw that the relays were broken, I assumed there would never be another galactic level society for another million years without FTL travel. Nobody actually knows how the relays even work either, it's ancient reaper tech.
>>750296724
well thanks for the bump ig
>>
>>750297204
Cold War always made sense to me immediately after ME3, but not fucking 600 years later.
In no other way than "the galaxy is toast, and Relays don't work. Now there's an arms race to be the better superpower than the Citadel, who's in their knees, giving rise to neo-batarians who somehow actually survived, and want revenge and also create an empire."

And that could be literally as exciting in terms of stakes and scope as taking on the Collectors in ME2 but with way more political tension, and then discovering some other big threat that's not the Reapers, which by the time you finish the game and reconcile the "Arms Race" you can point everyone's eyes to the other big thing, and then sequels to this game can start to build up a similarly large-scale threat like the Reapers were, while just expanding the universe beyond its original reach, and show places we haven't been to.

Why the fuck are they so obsessed about going far into the future. I really don't get it. They seemed to be retconning the endings anyway...

>Krogan have 1000 eggs in one go
>Genophage kills 999 of them
>Only one survives and that's just the birth part, no saying how many survive to adulthood.
>Not many females around either
>Planet in a constant state of war
>Radioactive surface so they have to live underground
>Not many resources
>Population of Tuchanka is still 2.1 billion Krogan.

You cannot cure the genophage if you're to have any other kind of a story than
>Krogan have taken over the galaxy through sheer numbers and they're all in a state of constant war.
This subject is so fucking massive that they either have to pretend Krogan don't breed that quickly, or tell a war story where everyone has united with each other and kills Krogan as fast as possible.
It would mostly be Humans and Turians teaming up and constantly bombing the shit out of them, there's the unavoidable main theme for the setting if genophage is cured.
>>
>>750297845
Wrex is also one in a bajillion, all krogan before him are unreasonable and objectively violent
>>
>>750297981

Yeah which is something everyone defending curing the genophage seems to forget.
>Oh Wrex will handle it!
He won't handle shit. Krogan challenge each other for dominance all the fucking time and it's just a matter of time until Wrex falls due to age catching up.
Krogan were artificially uplifted way too soon, which is what the Salarians even admit, and the setting fucked up by treating them with silk gloves and painting them as some kind of a victim that only fights because they're suffering due to genophage and low resources.
They were barbarians before and there's zero reason for them to suddenly have changed.
In my playthroughs I convinced Mordin not to cure the genophage or killed him, because it's the only reasonable thing to do with these primitive animals.
They'll be just as bad as reapers when they become numerous enough.
>>
>>750297602
My favorite thing about Mass Effect has always been it's worldbuilding, so the idea of a game more focused on political intrigue and what is happening to the society on a galactic scale sounds awesome, but I just don't see how it would be possible so soon after the relays got rekt. Maybe they could just handwave that part and say they weren't actually shut down, just damaged, or it wasn't that bad and they fixed it surprisingly fast now that dead reapers are everywhere and they can get a better understand of how their tech works. Idk.
>Why the fuck are they so obsessed about going far into the future. I really don't get it. They seemed to be retconning the endings anyway...
Like I said earlier, I think setting it far into the future is the only way to continue the story without forcing one of the endings to be the canon one. You could go with destroy ending and say the reapers are dead, that would be easy, or control and say the reapers just left after they helped rebuild everything including the relays. I don't see how sythesis could be used even after 600 years because everyone would be a weird ass cyborg

Did Bioware ever come out and say which ending in ME3 was canon?
>>
>>750297845
>>750298370
These posts were fact checked by true Alliance patriots and deemed TRUE
They would almost certainly have to retcon just how fast the Krogan can reproduce, or say that female are still very rare in their species like the Salarians. 1000 babies per couple every year would make them the galactic majority by a gigantic amount in no time, and they can't fucking behave or achieve a single leader for the species. Retcons are the only possible way to handle it.
>>
>>750298447
No, that one guy said in his post revealing details about what was planned that "Shepard's legacy would be preserved no matter which ending you picked" so they were gonna try and tip-toe around telling you exactly how the reapers were defeated. Probably a "dont worry about it" approach
>>
>>750297845
You don't understand anon. The galaxy NEEDED those krogan to shoot at godzilla sized starships from ground level before getting crushed by robo tentacles.
>>
>>750299094
This works both ways tho. I don't recall the games giving a convincing explanation for how Krogans can actually maintain a powerful enough navy that them being gigagorillas means anything in a sci fi universe. Great you breed like rats. Maybe you can build a starship out of rocks and Krogan hides? It's not like there's anything else on Tuchanka they could use until their economy starts to revolve around cannibalism.
>>
Mass Effect as a series already has more bad games than good ones, so, it's not a big loss. The new game had a snowball's chance in hell of being above average.
>>
>>750301072
Yeah, I would rather have the series die than continue shambling as a desecrated corpse at the hands of new age Bioware. Mass Effect is my favorite series, so it hurts to see it go, but not as bad as it would if it got the Halo or Gears of War treatment.

Also, 3 isn't bad, fuck
>>
>>750296402
You just start out with, "This is what REALLY happened!" as a brief recap.
>>
>>750293481
Humans should never side with Batarians over Krogans. Although I do think the Batarians are cool being pirates and slavers and all.
>>
anybody having a problem with batarians/humans being allied in 600+ years is just showing they're low iq

we fucking nuked japan twice and then were friends with them just 2 decades later

anything can be explained in 600 years. lack of imagination is what causes fags to say "bUt tEh aLpHa ReLaY." fucking in universe lore has you working with literal turians that were shooting at humans just a few decades before in the first contact war. a lot can happen in 6 centuries that can be explained in lore
>>
>>750301670
Wait, I meant Turians, I don't know how I said Krogans.
>>
>>750301809
The same with the Mandalorians pledging allegiance to the Republic in KOTOR II then aligning with the Sith two hundred years later in SWTOR.
>>
>>750298447

We can take a good guess that the destroy ending is canon, because Shephard lives in that one and is dragged out of the rubble by your love interest.
