>According to the Korea Creative Content Agency's "Content Industry Trends Analysis Report for the Second Quarter of 2026," 77.5% of the 120 game companies surveyed said they use generative AI. This rate was far above the average adoption rate of 45.6% across the content industry as a whole and was the highest among the 11 content sectors surveyed, including publishing (37.6%), comics (16.8%), and animation (68.9%).
>In fact, recent entry-level recruitment in the gaming industry has seen "AI proficiency assessments" replace "coding tests." In an August posting for its second-half hiring-linked internship program, NexTorial, Nexon said it would eliminate the traditional coding test, previously a required step for game programmer positions. The aim is to assess candidates' ability to solve and verify problems using the company's generative AI tools, rather than simply how quickly they can write code.
>"In development, generative AI has become an essential tool for survival, not a matter of choice," an industry official said. "The preference for talent who can direct AI as a creative tool, rather than simply code, will become even more pronounced."

Honestly this is way better. At least on the team I ran, the biggest problem wasn't that people could do the mechanical parts of the work but whether they could think critically, identify issues, and resolve them or send a communication for missing items. And that is hard to train.

Because level design(assuming you're doing levels and not Open World slop or seed generation) is both structured and creative and the methodology behind it isn't a science. There's a lot of feel behind it. Something AI can't do as it's not a person. You need to challenge the player fairly with the mechanics you want them to learn and have already learned but balance it so it's fun for them without being out of whack with the rest of the levels. e.g. an early game level shouldn't be harder than a late game level but how do you define this for a prompt? Can the AI differentiate between fair and doable. How far can the player jump, how strong are they. What kinds of restrictions are in place.
If you want good-great levels you need to do it by hand.
AI could shit out levels that are on par with shitty licensed games likely with impossible jumps as the AI won't know exact distances that are acceptable for jumping as well as things like safety nets, hard routes, etc.
It's just insanely complex since so much of good level design is feel and that's something AI can't do since it isn't alive.

"For level 1 place enemies so that a player will not have to fight more than one at a time. For level two place them such that players will fight as most two enemies. For level three ect ect ect"
Besides that AI can be used to handle much of the tedious elements, letting developers spend more time on refining things

Good news, it basically is dying. The utopian dream of AI that fully replaces knowledge workers will never come, and yet they are cannibalizing the tech industry as though it is going to happen in the next few years. At best you will have these gimmicky AI assistants who cannot be trusted to do work consistently or correctly. It's like having a highly productive and eager junior level employee who never checks his work and makes frequent mistakes, even after being repeatedly corrected on them.

So you need a a staff of experienced, senior level employees to manage the AI, who replace all the junior level employees. The obvious problem (to people with brains instead of MBA degrees) is that if you replace all your junior employees with AI, you won't have any senior employees to replace the ones you have now, when they retire. This only works as a long-term strategy if you are planning on replacing the senior level with AI, but as I already explained, that's never going to happen with LLMs, they're not designed to function as a real abstract intelligence and they never will.

I thought that too, then out of grim curiosity I asked Opus to make a level in the same style as ones I had made over the course of a month. In 10 minutes it spit out a 98% usable map. It even pointed out "yeah I couldn't get the last 2% perfect because X, Y, and Z, but you can probably finish that yourself." AI is revolutionizing game development. Devs are going to be able to make a handful of examples of what they want, say "Cluade fill out the rest," and get three years' of maps done in three weeks.

>but le industrial revelation you luddite!
The Industrial revolution analogy is not applicable. The industrial revolution came at a time when demand far exceeded the supply and human labor was the primary bottleneck to ramping up production. Being capable of producing at a 100x the rate resulted in selling 100x more products which results in economic growth and prosperity.

For games, the current supply of games already by far exceeds demand for games, even with existing very high production costs and long production times. There is far more games being produced than there is demand for them. And this is before AI is part of the production process. Being capable of producing 100x more games will not result in selling 100x more games.

It's also perfect example where excessive over-supply and over production will if anything create new markets for more exclusive hand-crafted artisanal goods.

Where? It's been close to half a goddamn decade of AI being forced into the workplace. Where are all these cheapo AI games being churned out?

Hell, Level-5 destroyed their reputation by diving head first in AI development and their games are STILL taking forever to come out. If anything they've basically fucked themselves over in the long run because this shit is proving to be objectively inefficient.

It's obvious game devs already didn't hire quality programmers. Look at how they all use Unreal Engine 5 and all the games runs like shit because they don't know how to optimize anything. Tim should revert back to how UE4 handled all the technical stuff for developers since devs don't know how to handle technical stuff either...UE4 ran so much better than UE5

You would not say this if you understood the technology. "AI" is software architecture and algorithms. Anyone can do it and you don't need teracluster supercomputers to do useful stuff. Small models are getting better all the time). The frontier models are of course extremely impressive but all the big labs could vanish overnight and the technology is still going to be everywhere in the future because it's a useful branch of computing. The level of control you're talking about is simply not possible without some kind of singularity gigabrain overlord, in which case civiliation would change so much it's impossible to talk about here.

I don't understand where AI is supposed to be making more money for everyone. Supposedly we're at the point where Claude can just about do anything with some kind of effort involved so going by that standard things are just going to get easier in time. Once we arrive at the point where anyone can ship a fully functional game with Claude why would you charge it? If anyone can make a game with a subscription then there's no real point in selling it anymore and it begs the question, how do you make money off it?

When everyone has the same tools available the bar goes up. Nobody is gonna be paying for generic roguelite crap anymore, you'll have to be a little more exceptional than that. AI can't be exceptional on its own in that sense (yet), it needs someone with a concrete vision to tardwrangle it into reality

They wont vanish though. What will most likely happen is a few smaller companies will die when the bubble bursts, and then the large ones with billions in federal and commercial backing will be bailed out to prevent a market collapse. They dont need some global system to exercise control, they just have to hold their breath long enough for vibecoding to become normalized and then they can have the keys to the kingdom. Just because you CAN build your own model doesnt mean youll ever be capable of competing with a multi billion dollar industry thats actively normalizing and enmeshing itself into every facet of commercial society.

This. Prices don't go down. Once companies feel they can sell at a certain price, it will never go back down. Game developers are still trying to argue that games should cost MORE despite the industry making more money than ever before, eclipsing every single other form of media. They save a fuckton of money thanks to digital sales. They squeeze the fuck out of people with complete editions, season passes, lootboxes, day one DLC, etc. etc. Yet somehow, inexplicably, games need to cost 70-no, 80-no, 90 dollars or else these poor little enormous companies are going to starve. Making more money than ever before and more than anything else, by the way. But still, they need to cost more because...

In Ohio they suspended the tax on gas because Trump fucked it all up. It didn't even take half a week for gas stations to raise prices up to what they were prior to the tax suspension. You don't understand how the rich think. They simply GET money. That's it. They just GET it. Like a child "gets" something they feel entitled to. AI will not lower the price of games. It won't lower the price of anything. It will lower the costs for richfags. It won't lower prices of anything. Nothing gets any better until people start killing politicians and richfags. There's no fixing this shit.

I don't care if a game is made with AI as long as it's good. The problem is that games are very rarely good, not that they aren't made with genuine human inputs or code. I can't even see the code when I play a game, so why would I care the method used to code it? Also code is just a language that humans have to learn and my goal isn't playing a game made by the person/people who are best at writing that language, so if they use what is functionally a translator to generate that language who cares? Otherwise you could also argue that if they don't build it in a language that's further from human language it's an inferior game, which is retarded.
>>
>>750318479
The better result of AI in my opinion would be more creative individuals and small teams eventually being able to make games that compete with higher budget polish without it taking them 20 years. Undoubtedly there are many people who would make good games if only it were more accessible. And an individual is more likely to have an uncompromising creative vision instead of the motivation of "appease the business majors who are ruining literally fucking everything with their insistence on maximum profit"

Minimized token usage. If program produces expected outputs, the rest of your non-failing grade is a bell curve based on how low your token usage was to achieve it. That’s the cost that any future employers will want to minimize and it’s the cap all the datacenter corpos are rate limiting (because inference isn’t profitable).

You want to grade the ability to vibecode, it’s how few tokens it takes you to get there.

>Minimized token usage
good point.
however, token usage is something that students would need to self-report - most students don't even report that they're using AI for their work unless they're forced to do so, and even then they can choose to be dishonest about the extent of its usage.

>You want to grade the ability to vibecode
definitely, but what else shifts in terms of grading schemes now that we know the 'expected output' is easily achievable with AI?
as an example, students cannot outsource their cognitive critical thinking when it comes to theory or practical tests, however, obviously, these tests also do not test for things that projectwork can - things like peer collaboration, etc.

should we now consider going back to a grading format where most of the students' grades are determined by written or practical exams/tests over projectwork?

This
Or dicksword or steam forums or something
I haven't regularly visited v in like 8 years I think? Even the exception threads that are usually good are bad now GDQ is pozzed shit full of "where are the trannies XD" posts rather than actual discussion and Next Fest hype was killed by the cunt who keeps posting the pre-release press version every year + ai slop spam.
There's very little meaningful discussion to be had on /v/. Its coombait and if you call that out you are gay, its AI slop and if you call that out you're a jeet, its just making shit takes to bait for replies and if you call that out you're a jew, etc.
Tribalism killed /v/ more than anything else.
I remember when the board was mostly actual screencaps from games and discussion, but that's not the case anymore. Not its off-model fanart or ai slop ass pics and "is peach good for u".
Or you get the cliques and schizoes. Can't say anything bad about any FF or KH game or similar or you are "Barry". Barry was like half a decade ago, he probably doesn't fucking post anymore, but apparently everyone who does not like these games is "barry"
Can't say Strangers of Paradise combat is piss easy and boring (which it is) because the clique who seem to have largely not even fucking played it will call me brown with no argument beyond that (as you don't need any on /v/)
Can't say DMC5 making all the girls naked damsels who need rescue was insulting to series staples or I'm gay. If a character is female, I HAVE to not have standards for how they're treat, or I have sex with men, its that simple.
MGR is the same, Nier was hyped entirely by coomers... so many games /v/ likes seem to be entirely hyped by tribalism and there's no nuanced conversation to be had.
So many topics don't even HAVE gameplay discussion, its just "look at this ass"
Its barely worth visiting /v/ and I only do so when Next Fest or sales threads are up, the only time people discuss games.

This feels like some shit you just made up. I swear I've been in every fucking DMC5 thread since 2019 because I love that game and I've never seen this argument. That Lady and Trish got bogged to bejesus and back by face scan shit? Absolutely. That it's a shame we never got the ladies' night DLC to make them playable? for a while that was a thing. That Red Hot Night is a broken move? 500 replies omitted, click to view.

But I never saw anyone having an argument over Lady and Trish's lack of agency. Which is kind of a stupid argument, the entire point of the game's structure is that this time around the big bad slaps Dante in face, and rips Nero's fucking arm off, I don't understand why him being powercrept over DMC3 means Lady is now a "damsel in need of rescue" rather than simply being outscaled.

you being here is also valid observation because you speak for those who left but still remain here.
and many of my favorite series got raped, like monster hunter with World or Street Fighter with 6. I stopped playing them because of that.

Imo its a kinda useless point because Lady and Trish arent even some prime characters at all. By 4 they were completely tacked on already.
They worked when they were tied to the narratives of the games they came from. Past that DMC cannot support so many characters story wise. Its too much. They probably shouldve just kept them out but DMC5 is too obsessed with referencing everything for that I guess.

I've posted the exact issue multiple times and been called gay for it, mostly when the game was new. Then I stopped bothering to visit the threads because people were no longer discussing mechanics, map design, etc. It was just meme pics and for some reason arguing about ninja gaiden

Some went to twitter, some also to twitter but with troll's guilt, others became unironic normalfags and don't talk on the internet anymore. Most people don't hang around on 4chan for longer than 2-4 years.

Isn't now a good time to learn programming for real, so that when the situation eventually comes when they realize nobody has any fucking clue what they're doing anymore and nothing's working, they'll pay you anything to teach them again?

It's a good time to get into programming in general at the very least because you will be able to untangle whatever spaghetti code AI spews out while actually having a clue what it actually does which will put you miles ahead of pure vibesloppers.

Don't you need to have a pretty clear idea what the code does and how it works to be able to prompt it in the first place?

It's a shame you missed the Ninja Gaiden 4 threads, they were 50% arguing about DMC. It do be like that.

Pure vibesloppers operate on a "chat gpt, write a program for me" basis and burn a trillion tokens in the process for the most basic things.

You will always be better off if you have a good foundation in programming even if you use AI coding tools.

But news like that are generally bad news.
Unfucking bad AI code is hell. There will be more competition that will lower wages. Entry level positions that let you grow and make a name for yourself will be less common.

Real programmers will have a big advantage but its gonna get really ugly I think.

Didn't miss, just don't like that game at all (even the one good design it has it kills off???) and I don't like to enter threads just to say "thing u like is bad"

I think traditional backend jobs will slowly get replaced with 1 man swiss army knives who double as devops or administrators down the line.
At the same time, the amount of digital services will continue to grow explosively so there's always going to be work somewhere.
