It won't be able to beat DQ3 remake looks like. But now it is the best reviewed and highest concurrent peak single player Final Fantasy. It's a great game and a good blueprint for 1-6 remakes and hell I would even love IX in this style. And Xenogears. And Chrono Trigger.

Even as a lifelong FF fan who has been playing since FFI, I don't really "get" the hype for this game, but then again I kept playing turn-based games even after Square Enix stopped naming them Final Fantasy, so I don't feel as though this is my first drop of water in a 20 year long drought like they do. I'm also just not a huge fan of cheap memberberries as a general concept, but this game doesn't focus on the memberberries at all, they're purely cosmetic... which is somehow worse than if they did chose to focus on them. In Persona, you hit a weakness and it downs the enemy. You don't need to deplete a stagger bar. This makes Resonance's "Stagger Sweep" mechanic (called "All-out attack" in Persona) very easy to perform as long as you can hit for weakness damage on each enemy. They even introduced a new mechanic called baton pass since Persona 5 Royal, so if your active character cannot hit weakness, you can pass their turn to someone who can. It's the same combat gameplay loop of "stagger" the battlefield, get rewarded with a big attack. You can say that Resonance is more strategic or more fun or more difficult or whatever it is you want to say. I'm not here to argue any of that and at that point it becomes about subjective opinion. If she happens to stick an elemental weakness that's covered by a Double Action + Akimbo Bartz setup, it is absolutely over for that boss.
