Why would you waste money and/or space using a CRT when you could just use shaders?

every single shader is a shitty approximation

Not really

yes really

nuh uh, good shaders are all you need. The difference doesn't justify the effort of setting one up

op literally proves otherwise

If AI is so great, how come it doesn't crack old as shit technology to be applied to new tech in a seemless and convincing way that doesn't fuck up your eyes? What do we even have to look forward in monitors and tvs? oled has great darks but shits the bed with burn in. Plasma suffers the same fate. Mini oleds seem the way to go but still is inferior to my old ass magnavox brick.

Name 1 (one) good shader
I genuinely want to know, I've come across this software called ShaderGlass that applies shader across the whole screen and it looks pretty neat

I feel like that's a bad image to use to make your point, left has much better colors. unless it's a gotcha and the labels are actually flipped, or whatever.

that reminds me I should play SoTN on my CRT. I've only ever emulated it on LCD screens.

Could modern hardware handle just simulating all the light from a CRT

Like instead of having a shader, just render the screen in a 3D space with all the light effects of the excited phosphors or whatever the fuck.

Kinda like how people have used 3D to simulate glow-through on fake animation cells

Newpixie shader.

crt-satpixie, crt-yah, crt-guest-advanced, various flavors of crt-royale, but you have to play around with the glow settings

Thanks for the recommendations, I'll give them a try.

Unless you REALLY like the natty 1x res look, I strongly recommend also upping the internal resolution to 4x or so and enabling box downscaling in the graphics options in Duckstation.
Makes games look 10x better, especially if they combine 2d and 3d graphics.

Light gun games. Don't care about how it looks.
>>
>>750316740
Wow what the fuck, thanks. It looks great though a bit too sharp.
There are 2 down-sampling options, box and adaptive, which one should I use? I don't see much difference between the two.

>box and adaptive
Only matters if you're playing games that mix 2d and 3d graphics. Box downsamples both equally, while adaptive only works with 3d models, IIRC.
>too sharp
I'm using 5x internal res downsampled to 1x target res, and it gives a really nice, smooth look. See pic.

Vague poster-kun.. You could at least try to tell em what's wrong and how to fix it, and maybe post a picture that looks right to you to prove your point.
