Why do developers make roadmaps and then just never follow them?Pic related
Probably the shittiest bait I've ever seen.
>>750336501I'm not baiting, they have constantly changed the roadmap.
Wasn't this one of ONLY "indie early access game with feature creep" that actually got it done and released on a schedule? I can't even think of any other example.
This game is too reddit coded for me
I love Abiotic Factor, I've completed it but its still fun to go around making comfy bases
I feel I should clarify that I like ABF, my issue is the constant changing of the roadmap. I just want them to stop setting a release window for the DLC if they consistently fail to meet that deadline.
>>750336356I love this game
>>750336356I played this for like an hour and do not understand the appeal. Resource collecting for seemingly no purpose, nothing is happening, I have a negative inventory capacity even with the backpacks I've picked up... where's the fun?
>>750336947I've been binging survival crafting games since Valheim released, and Abiotic Factor is by far the best of the games I've played. It's so good. I was kinda turned off by it being in a research lab, but the whole SCP element makes it fantastic. I've gotten to the Security sector so that means that Layak isn't following me anymore but some sort of reaper thing. I didn't expect the game to be horror, but it is, making it extremely atmospheric.
>>750337067I understand where you're coming from, but I'm not too bothered if they keep us updated with any issues or delays. I'd rather they take extra time to make it as good as possible rather than meeting some arbitrary deadline.
>>750337774It's all downhill from there.
>>750337774This game is so fucking good solo and going blind. It really helps it's a built experience and not RNG generated world.
>>750337884I would rather they tell us when its done then just say "eh, sometime three months from now." on repeat for a year straight.
>>750338214*rather then just sayI need to proof read my shit more.
I wish AF didn't spread itself so fucking thin with its homages. Even with some of them contained to their own portal worlds, most of the portal worlds are just homages with little depth to them.I guess it's good it does end up trying to build its own identity beyond Half-Life / SCP, but I feel both parts just feel like neglected backdrops at this point.
>>750337774Idk to me its pretty mediocre jank. Combat is just terrible and as a solo player, the game devolves into a series of chores around farming, water scarcity, etc, that just aren't enjoyable. It lacks replayability as well since the storyline is linear and its all set pieces with no random generation at all. Feels like the game would have been better as a narrative single player horror adventure game than a survival game all those elements seem completely misplaced. But then if it just turns into a theme park exploration game, there's very little actual content or even boss encounters wtc.
>>750337942Any reason why? I was close to quitting trying to kill the big tanky thing because it just wouldn't die but I needed a drop from it. Having previously tried to kill a composer but being unable to, I wasn't sure if it was possible. There needs to be some accessory to show enemy HP or at least make it more obvious that you're doing damage. I know the tanky thing slows and looks damaged but I didn't initially think it could be killed, just damaged. Also a shit fight unless cheesed.>>750338053Yeah, I've been having a blast solo. Only thing I'd change is IT. IT is on a set time so it becomes predictable that it'll be lurking. If the timer was variable instead of static, it would make the experience regarding that enemy much better.>It really helps it's a built experience and not RNG generated worldIt's a godsend coming from Valheim. Why have an unfocused experience with RNG when you could have a tight and refined experience instead? people argue that random generation is better on replays, but I like that experience lets you blitz through it.>>750338214I get that, but then you'll complain that they don't communicate: "They said it'll be done in June and it's now November. They haven't posted anything since April!"
>>750336569More devs would be like this if they actually spent time developing their games and not jacking off in a discord to fans praising them 24/7
>>750336356So is this a faggy Reddit game or not? Getting mixed signals.
>>750338682try forming an opinion on your own
>>750336569The original Don't Starve comes to mind, very solid progression until release. I feel like there's a few more but DS was the first one where I was kind of surprised it actually came out properly. Oh actually I guess Rimworld fits this too? I got it all the way back when it was on it's own site.
>>750338559Can't deny that the combat is bad, but it's serviceable. It doesn't sound like you got very far into the game based off your complaints because you can very easily manage what you call chores. The QoL you get from progressing in the game is insane, which is what I want out of these games. Going from having to cook multiple pots of water to get 1 full pot for food, to filling a barrel and pressing a button to instantly filter it is so good. I might have felt the tedium of the early game far more if I didn't come from Valheim of all games.
>>750336947I wanna make a base by that antejuice pool. It's such a nice setting.
>buy early access game>enjoy it but decide to wait for 1.0>1.0 comes out>excited to play>"we are excited to release 1.0, but we still need to add..."
>>750338580>I get that, but then you'll complain that they don't communicate: "They said it'll be done in June and it's now November. They haven't posted anything since April!"Maybe, its awful either way.
>>750337317Watch a subway surfers video on your phone while you play zoom zoom
>>750336569Deep Rock Galactic did it first, and better. They were in E.A. only for 1.5 years, and released in 2020. But even after that, the devs kept supporting the game and releasing brand new content, for free.
>>750338792I don't want spoilers, and I'm not a filthy rat pirate. Next.
>>750336356I’m still a bit disappointed by the residential sector and final boss. The final area in between was pretty cool and I liked the mechanics but that still probably wasn’t my favorite area in the game. It just felt like the residential was lacking in the interest or cool stuff from the prior areas. I will say the buildup right before the residence sector had me unbelievably hyped though just from how much there was more than I expected. As for the final boss it just felt off, I don’t have a better way to put it.
>>750339237you know you could always just look at the store page and make your own decision without purchasing the gamewhy are you asking other people to form an opinion for you?
Pirated Enshrouded and was disgusted by what they did to the grapple hook. It used to be a proper grapple like Worlds Adrift but now it's a glorified teleport LIKE ALL THE REST. Suggestions for games that do real proper grapple hook mechanics? Also Enshrouded is fucking shit. The combat is weak as piss (Why the fuck doesn't merciless cleave), the magic sucks, the exploration is boring (Why don't open world games follow the design principle of NO STAMINA BAR OUTSIDE OF COMBAT) and it's buggy as fuck.
It's insane to me that they put the xen sections in the game despite them being universally hated
>>750339352>EnshroudedIt was my next game to play after Palworld (absolutely shit grind that I'm amazed is in anyway popular). I was expecting a better Valheim but I found it so underwhelming that I started and ended my playthrough today (refunded!). The menuing and UI/UX was unbelievably bad. I should not have to be fighting with the menus in games made these days. Was not impressed at all.
>>750339606The only thing I like about Enshrouded is the building mechanics not being obnoxious fucking garbage to wrestle with. Everything else was just underwhelming like you said. I'm so glad I didn't pay 50 fucking bucks for it. Valheim burned me out super hard too (Me and my friend restarted after the latest expansion dropped and any interest I had in the game evaporated instantly) The only reason I stopped playing Palworld though is because it runs like shit after skyislands.
Game made me think melee was viable, only to get stonewalled after the first two sectors.
>>750339763I heard that the building was the best in the genre but I couldn't quite get around to it because of the UX. Menus built for controller but still feels like shit on a controller.>Valheim burned me out super hardThe final biome sucks anyway so you're the smart one here by dipping. You got flying cancer enemies the last deep north that are by far the worst enemy in the game. The dungeon is large and empty, taking forever to get through, and it needs doing at least 3 times. You then trigger invasions somewhere in the world that you need to sail to, to clear em for a boss summon item. Padded to the extreme, the Valheim special.>>750340082What gave you trouble in the lab? I've been playing almost exclusively with the spear and it has been a smooth experience so far (minus the tanky enemy in the labs).
>>750336356Pretty bold of these guys to ape Half Life so hard they made an even shittier ending and ending section to their game.
>>750340082Melee is viable. You just need better weapons. Though it IS impossible to beat the end game boss with melee unless you invested in throwing weapons. >>750340208>The final biome sucks anyway so you're the smart one here by dipping. We made it to the plains, killed the mountain boss (ice dragon) and then the expansion dropped so we said "Lets just start again" and almost instantly I didn't want to play. Conversely, we both beat Abiotic are are eagerly awaiting for the next expansion of that. She did the reservoir section/cooking, farming (I'm a fucking coward terrified of deep water) and I did the base building/combat grinding. Honestly might be the best game in the genre.
>>750340325>Though it IS impossible to beat the end game boss with melee unless you invested in throwing weapons. They did update it so melee characters can beat him but the fight is still janky as hell.
>>750340325Should I be touching the added tables (distillation and chemistry) by security or is it a late-game thing? Also, is Palworld meant to be an afk sim in the latter half of the game or was I playing it wrong? You'd need 100's of ingots but it would take upwards of 30 seconds to craft 1...
>>750340586It's any time you can access them thing. The shit you can make with distillation is actually quite insane. Also Palworld scales up aggressively quickly if you're using exp modifiers like a point above normal. You may find it's slow starting out but you'll reach a point where 100 ingots of anything is a sneeze.
>>750340586>but it would take upwards of 30 seconds to craft 1...Please tell me you're actually using the mechanisms given to you in the game. You're NOT just hand crafting everything on the base level crafting bench?? You ARE using Pals to do things and paying attention to their job stats?
>>750340651Exp modifiers? I'm playing on hard, which reduces exp gain. Not sure what that has to do with smelting ores.>>750340735Using the best forge I have, with a few points in research to improve the forging time, along with the pal that has the highest forging skill. Sure, I haven't given the pal any books or condensed it to get the forging skill higher but it still takes forever. I guess I could make a base just for forging but it's such a slog. Am I doing something wrong?
>>750340920EXP progress is your gate towards getting better automation equipment. Playing on hard just makes the whole game take longer for no actual benefit. There is, and I mean this, zero actual reason to play on anything but normal unless you like grinding pointlessly for longer. At that point just go play a Bobs mod on Minecraft.>Am I doing something wrong?I'd have to see your setup but if 100 baseline metal bars are taking you so long and a single bar is taking you upwards of 30 seconds, you're not using your best systems available. Or you're watching a pot try to boil. As the old saying goes, a watched pot doesn't boil etc. Go out and explore and do some battles etc. When you get back your request will be done. How many towers have you done?
>>750340275I'm glad someone finally made a game so clearly inspired by Half-Life. It's literally almost been 30 years and not even Valve is replicating HL1.
>>750341369me on the right
>>750341152I had like 4 last time. This time the metal grind hasn't been so bad because I'm using every system but I got burnt out by the sheer amount of iron I need to craft. I dunno what it is about the game but it's all just busy work. Either I need farm and wait a while to get the item, or I go into a new area and have to catch everything for the exp bonus. The Pals feel like statsticks and not very endearing or "alive".
>>750338214some games like repo are doing that now and everyone is spamming the game is dead and abandoned
>>750341549Survival crafting games are typically busy work, yes. If that's burning you out, play a different game.>Pals feel like stat sticks, and not very endearingI dare you to say that to my fucking dog
>>750341641I bet you'd replace it if a Pal with higher stats, skills, or passives was available!
>>750336356maps are for people who don't know where they're going
>>750341831You can, with condensing, books and fruits, turn the weakest pal (a lamball) into an end game solo machine. I have had my Tarrantris (Tarry) since I found him at level 10ish and I'm now 80 at the end of the game just before the big tree (which I can't enter because the game is refusing to even function at a stable frame rate)
>>750338214Not talking hurts the developers way more than edging the community hurts players. When you never say anything, people forget about you and move on and they might not see the announcement when you finally make it. You might lose a few people who get annoyed with the delays and stop paying attention, but you'll retain way more if you occasionally remind people that you exist and are working on an update.
>added this to wishlist some time ago>get notified that 1.0 is out>find out there's already a roadmap for future updates>now it's extended for year 2so fucking sick of modern games being a perpetual live service beta test
>>7503421031.0 is a complete game, everything that's being added is just extra. You can just go play the game right now and if you ever want to replay it later on, there will be new stuff for you to do.
>>750341979Can any Pal have actually high and comparable stats to the best Pals in the game? I'm intrigued.
>>750338559If you boil dirty water it becomes clean water. I don't know why that isn't in the soup cookbook.
>>750342223The answer is yes but not for Job stats, not technically. You can't make a Lamball able to do furnace work for instance. The only real thing that sets apart say a Jetdragon and a Lamball is that Jetdragon can fly. All pals can learn all skill fruits without question. There are some abilities unique to a pal but all personality traits like Lucky (within reason for a couple traits) are also genetically spreadable/injectable with implants from the colosseum.
>>750336356>>750337067Roadmaps are never concrete, game dev is experimental and sometimes ideas just don't work, or take longer to get working than anticipated.Abiotic devs have been very good with update cadence though. The pseudo-retro graphics are certainly a benefit in that as they don't have to spend a ton of time on making super high detail assets. They delayed the first expansion DLC until next year, but it's a pretty large update and it's out of early access so I don't have a problem with it. Better to delay a good game/update than rush a poor one.
>>750338559>chores around farming, water scarcity, etcMy friend and I beat the game with the traits that make you thirsty, need to use the bathroom and hungry more often without realizing those were objectively terrible passives. You can beat the game so fucking easily without those the second you can make the anniversary cake.
>>750342483Thanks for the info. Sounds like a lot of autism.
>>750342685The bathroom one doesn't matter, shitting yourself just makes you smelly and that makes you worse at stealth, but stealth is already a joke. That being said the final boss is long enough that you'll probably drop a deuce during it and that does take away from some of the gravitas.
>>750336569It's still being updated with major overhauls so no, it's not done.
>>750338580>Any reason why?Different guy, but from then on sections start to be heavier on combat. There's some real damage dealers and it becomes more balanced around having a team composition and one guy to draw aggro. They also aren't as tightly designed mini-metroidvanias like Offices, Manufactoring, Labs. None of it is bad per se, but it definitely feels like you aren't meant to live in the areas like those earlier sections.
>>750342712Not a problem. Got any more questions, just ask.
>>750342985Do you have any other survival crafting games that you like and are willing to recommend? Pretty new to the genre and don't wanna overlook any gems like with AF.
>>750342949Sounds like hell for solo play.
>>750343142Try Return to Moria. Can't vouch for the solo experience but I played with a friend and had good fun.
>>750343142I've played a decent amount and they're all the same garbage. Abiotic is the standout despite its issues.
>>750343142I think valheim is fantastic for the early game but it becomes absolutely mind numbing after the third biome.Depending on how loose you're being with survival crafting, there's Elin but that's a townbuilder survival crafter reallySubnautica 1 is a masterpiece of spooki underwater adventure. 2 dropped the ball by having less big monsters7 days to die is actually funStar rupture is a factory game where every hour an, aptly named, rupture happens that glasses the planet (and you if you're not indoors)V Rising is a vampire game, effectively a boss rush with some mob grinding on the side. Imagine a diablo Grim Dawn.Unturned is a zombie survival game that looks like Roblox several years before Roblox existedPrey (2016) is TECHNICALLY a survival crafting gameThere's also Raft, Kenshi, Forever Skies (Airship game), Devil Spire Falls 2 (Just look it up on steam), Forager, Project Silverfish (not really crafting but a LOT of surviving) (also it's got furfag characters so maybe not if you don't care for that), Planet Crafter and my personal favorite; Green Hell.To name a few>No Forest? The Forest suffers from a flaw where everything you need to survive is on your person. There's no need to build a base or defenses.
>>750343458Abiotic and grounded stand out for me, currently playing runescape dragonwilds but it's agressively mediocre with a sprinkle of woke shit in there to give it a bad taste.>>750343524>Forever SkiesI played that for a couple of hours and felt like it turned into a very samey game real quick. Started to recognize every "map" you landed on. Is the part where you go down any good or is it just as samey?
>>750342906free post-launch content is a good thing, see Terraria and Stardew
>>750343703Can't really say for the latest full release but in the last save before that release I was feeling much the same. Still got about 30 hours of enjoyment out of it though.
>>750343773To a point, sure, but it's a net negative when devs get trapped updating the same game for years instead of making something new.
>>750343703>Is the part where you go down any good or is it just as samey?Sorry I forgot to actually answer this; Yeah it's practically the same as usual. There are some 'maps' as you call em where combat is more active and you have to gun.. (arrow?) down bugs from afar or they getcha but that was as far as I got in pre-release before the content just ended. Currently though there ARE new areas, zones and mechanics. It might be worth a re-visit if you've not played the new version.
>>750343852Nearly every game/series has become worse after the first release. I'm perfectly happy continuing to play with is generally the best game the devs will ever put out
>>750343940Ok great, I was worried it might just be a "go down and clear two small hallways" thing. Ill give it another go next year.
>>750343264I'll check it out, thanks for the recommendation.>>750343458That's a shame.>>750343524>ElinTried to play it but ultimately didn't want to spend the time learning all the game's systems. I'll research some of the other games out. Thank you for the suggestions.>PreyI really need to play it, don't I? Given that it's still recommended to this day it would seem that I made a mistake skipping it.
>>750344018lol
>>750344176Prey is a masterpiece of space survival crafting horror.
>>750344274>survival crafting horrorIs that what it is? All I know about the game is that there's some fakeout start and it's a shooter (?). That sounds quite interesting. I love that AF is leaning into horror in the current area I'm in. Want more and this is the season for it.
>>750338682It's not faggy and i dunno what reddit is, but it's a fun game going blind solo, and probably the only game i'd choose to play for the first time again if i could. I love exploration in this kind of games and it can be quite intense.
>>750344530Enjoy the Reservoir. It's one of the best (and only) parts with large bodies of water
>>750344623>Enjoy the ReservoirI looked it up thinking it was a game. Derp. Don't mind large bodies of water. Currently spooked by the seemingly bottomless water in the fountain in the reaper vore world. I don't know what's down there or if it's worth the trouble trying to find out, but just knowing that it's deep scares me for whatever reason. I ain't got the lung capacity for it.
>>750336947Where is this? I haven't played in a long time and am kinda in the mood, never got my 2nd floor rooftop zombie shop base going on that I was planning
>>750345062Nvm kek I just realized that's exactly the spot I was talking about
>>750345062>2nd floor rooftop zombie shop baseThat's a mouthful
>>750344918There's Something in there but it's a collectable>>750345062Zombie mirror world in Labs.nvm you figured it out
>>750345062Its the roof of the furniture store.
>>750345194>SpoilerThanks but I shan't.
The game really doesn't know what to give you in secret areas after hydroplantThe long jump pack completely ruins level design for anything other than a hallwayIt gets so bad that by the end of the game me and my friend developed an in joke about secret areas in video games rewarding you with rebar (Which you can find sitting around late game areas long past it's usefulness. Probably to accomodate anybody using that grinder gun. I think rebar was part of it's ammo recipe)
>>750345178I apologize for the stroke.
>>750345247>Thanks but I shan't.Good. Spoiling the mystery would ruin the fun : )I will say though that this isn't a spoiler because figuring it out without the wiki is next to impossible; There will come a time you need eggs. The hint is this; Shoot the laser at the laser emitter to power on the mirror world in Labs. Such is all the hints I have to give you.
>>750345285I think you're confusing it with the magbow.
>roadmap thread>roadmap still not posted>>750337067I prefer them taking as much time as possible to make the DLC perfect than them rushing it, leaving it with bugs and unfulfilled ideas for the sake of releasing it.
>>750345471I was, thank you
>Finish game>Fucking love it>Holy fuck they're planning to add sailing? I'll wait until they add that, it sounds fucking kinoPatience. Patience.
>>750345592Me too, played the 1.0 version and haven't come back since. Waiting for "everything" to get added to put another 100+ hours into it.
>>750338580Reactors presents a genuine challenge, so of course /v/ doesn't like it.
I remember the game being a fucking massive slog close to the end because it's just non stop combat encounters against enemies that are massive bullet sponges if you don't spend an absurd amount of time grinding consumable nades and shit to craftDid they ever address that
>>750338214That's retarded. That's how you get an Atlyss situation where people keep begging for info and updates because nothing ever actually gets posted.>>750338559The game would be infinitely worse if it were the roguelite procgen shitfest you seem to want it to be.
>>750345418Do you mean redirecting the laser thing in the labs? I actually unlocked that portal but didn't properly explore it because I also unlocked security. Easy choice to make tbdesu.
>>750345750Reactors, Hydroplant and Residences was my favorite zones in the game. I also really loved the Order base. Exiting the teleporter and taking note of where I was and noticing that it was FUCKING MASSIVE was the kind of feeling you rarely get to experience. Very cool game, god I love Abiotic.
>>750345845I used the "bad" mace for 99% of all gatekeeper enemies and didn't have much trouble. This was on release 1.0 version though, things might have changed.
>>750345552I am glad mods are coming to the game, although, not allowing people to make custom portal worlds is a bummer.
>>750345552>Journal updateDoes that mean the journal will actually be usable now? It's probably the worst part of the game.
>>750342103What's with the kneejerk reaction? This is a complete game getting DLC additions you don't have to pay extra for. It's no different from the past 20 years of DLCs and expansion packs prior other than the new content being added to the base game for free.
Does anyone know any game where the character has a grappling hook that isn't a glorified teleport? I'm tempted to start up a steam review channel of sort where I just say whether or not it's a proper grapple. Fuckin Enchain managed to do it right. Nothing else does that I've seen as of recently.
>>750346457Define "teleport" because this comes off in a way that suggests you'd think the grappling hooks in Dying Light are teleports.
>>750346579Ironically Dying Light did grapple hooks properly too. I'm talking about the way Zelda or Enshrouded do it. Where the grapple only works on specific spots and nowhere else. A glorified teleport from a to bIncidentally, I have a rant about Dying Light and why I think it's trash garbage, if you care to hear it (It's about the halloween update several years ago that pumped the spawn rate of volatiles and NEVER FUCKING REDUCED THEM)Actually that was the rant. Never mind.
>>750346457Crimson desert but I wouldnt recommend the game
>>750346718In which game? IIRC they upped volatiles and screamers and shit in 2 because they got feedback that night time was "too safe" (read: you could go out and do stuff without a volatile spotting you every five seconds)
>>750346829Dying Light 1. Also I meant to say Virals. Virals were EVERYWHERE.2 was also fucking awful because Volatiles were fucking EVERYWHERE the minute night time started. Jesus fucking christ I hate that I have zero power over game development.
>>750346903>Buy DL1 during a sale>Its during a Viral Rush eventWhat retard at Techland thought it was a good idea to put that shit on by default?
>early game10/10>mid game (security sector)5/10>late game1/10
>>750347325Dunno but I want to have 'words' with them like Jack Garland has 'words' with Chaos. I bought it so long ago that it feels like a distant memory. I still have the cop pistol a hacker cheated in for me. It's infinite ammo and doesn't one shot so it isn't boring to use.
Where would you guys want to see the story go after the end of the game?
>>750347628It's gotta go somewhere that ain't THERE. Fuck what a let down that we couldn't even get in the Cascade building down on the beach. Wouldn't mind more Order and Gatekeeper territory to fight over too.
>>750347628the natural next step is timetravel to save da worl
In a perfect world, devs would just go silent for a couple of years and then signal boost their update trailer to shit a week before releasing it, so OP wouldn't have a crisis of binge watching developer blog videos and scanning the roadmaps every week.

>>7503483452%. You can very much play through and never see it.
>>750347786There wasn't an old modding system, older mods were way more restrictive because of it.
>>750348460Unfathomably shit luck then friend. I think when I scanned the wiki looking for anything interesting the antique shotty does, I switched over to the upgraded Ordo Shotty in response. But I was maining throwing weapons till the very end because I fucking love me some Boomerangs (y'cunt) (Because I'm Australian)
>>750347786There is no modding system, that's why they're making it easy to mod the game.
>>750336947I'd make a base here if not the the neighbours constantly knocking on the door to borrow some sugar.
>>750348584I think it's kinda comfy
Good thread. Don't buy Enshrouded, it fucking sucks. Whats the other one though where you go through portals into different realities after finishing your business in the current realm? That MIGHT be worth playing.
What weapons would you guys want to see in game?
>>750351981An actual boomerang.
>>750351981Orbital laser that only works outdoors.
>>750351981An orbital laser that only works on friendlies
>>750336356because roadmaps give the illusion that they know where things are going.of course its just them trying to literally see the future which is bullshit.
>>750336356wonder if they will ever fix the latter half of the game, it's rushed as fuck
>>750339430I thought fragments was fine for what it's worth. Didn't drag on nearly as much as original Xen or Black Mesa Xen
>>750346007>not allowed to make custom portal worldsthis is retarded and I think the devs are faggots if this is true.
The Voices of the Void update was dogshit.
>>750337774Valheim was a huge disappointment for me, maybe I just didn't give it enough of a chance but it just felt like every other generic survival crafting game. The only cool thing was seeing the tree in the sky.
The Voices of the Void update was fun.
I played through the game and beat it after 1.0, how's it looking since then?
>>750359645No major groundbreaking changes. Two new portal worlds, a new chemistry system for crafting consumables and weapons, and a pet system with a nice variety of pals to fight with.
>get to hydro>start feeling fatigued>get to reactors>this is kinda cool>cloud reactor>HUGE slog>get to shadowgate>HUGE slog>get to praetorium>not as bad of a slog but more combatslop>get to residences>burnt out, take a two month break>pick it up again, get to fragments then botanical>kinda interested again>get to albatross>feel kinda let down that the back quarter was flaccid as fuckI guess I shouldn't have waited for 1.0, but I do have the itch to start another playthrough now that I know what to focus on and what to avoid.
>>750351981Actually satisfying Half-Life-adjacent guns
>>750347628A new area that unironicly resets or has completely seperate progression. Like a portal world shits you out with nothing and you gotta rebuild somewhere new.
>>750347786There isn't a built-in system and the current method is quite shit. It's split between mods which use ue4ss which has its own problems and mods which just add stuff via pak files which you have to manually delete each time. There's no system in-game for toggling mods on and off, or checking for outdated versions, and everything people have done up to this point is entirely on their own with no tools. Frankly, the shit people have been able to mod in is impressive as it is, but it's all just numbers, tools and model swaps. There's no properly new custom content.
>>750347628Assuming we're not just talking about the DLC? Probably defending the world from anomalies in a much more dire state. The arch defense facility is confirmed to take place in the future and the woman who releases you is GATE's CEO, so she's still alive and so is Manse as revealed by a log in botanical wing. Hard to say whether GATE will team up with the order or whether they'll remain at odds after shit finishes hitting the fan, but I'd like to work with them; we could get a new rat buddy. We could meet Hasta Quarta who acts and sound identical to Tria and it's just not explained because fuck it.
>>750336947My buddy and I made our base on the other side of the tram platform in the main lobby.Had to cram a bit but you can fit everything there and it simply seems like the most practical spot by far. Once you unlock all 4 trams it is so convenient.
>>750359645Everything that's been added is very good, but I'd strongly recommend waiting until the big update is out if you're looking to replay. Cosmic Companions was a really substantial update but it mostly adds stuff, rather than places. That stuff is really good, like pets, chemistry, watches, a vehicle and a bunch of weapons, but if you haven't replayed this game multiple times already, I think you're better off waiting for them to add multiple new portal worlds in a few months.
I got to the hydroelectric dam with a friend before dropping it.Am i a nigger or does the game get worse the deeper you go? The levels just become more rinse and repeat.
I'm still mad
>>750363536hydro is one of the best sections in the game, I'm not sure what you wanted out of it that you weren't getting up to that point
>>750363667looking forward to shooting a torpedo at abe's sub in the upcoming DLC
>>750363536it's arguably the last decent part before the combat slop
>>750336947 Why? Just didn't like the view? Those doors don't even function.
>>750339075We got a recent comms but I'm just bummed that it was to tell us there's a delay, a delay for another shitty fucking hub world that isn't a new chapter that they are yet again calling a "dlc".Sure, technically it is but does anybody really fucking care about another crappy fake worldspace with some miniscule side content?
>>750363667That was the hardest I've ever laughed at a game in my life. I have never seen anyone get wrecked so fucking hard after being built up for long.
>>750341641So theoretically I could set this thing down in front of a projector connected to comfyui on infinite seed generating degenerate mega preg furry porn forever and it would output more power than it would consume? We just cracked free energy boys.
>>750363667I dunno what to tell you man, shit happens

>>750351981add a big fucking rivet gun to manufacturing
>>750363667To be fair. It was extremely funny.
>>750336356Abiotic Combat would've been the perfect game for me but the combat is just too fucking terrible. It's never satisfying, the enemies, especially humans, are never fun to play with like HECU soldiers were in HL1, the ai is dumber than in a Unity asset flip, every gun feels like shit unless you're overkilling etc.
>>750336947I just beat it a few days ago and now I'm sad because I'll never play another game like it.
>>750365463I like the combat but it could be a little better for sure. It think the issue lies in the melee weapons not having much variety in how you use them. Outside of just one shotting everything with the sprinting Carbon pick.
Conan Exiles is still the best survival game I've played and that's because it is barely a survival game.
>>750346007>not allowing people to make custom portal worlds is a bummer. What the hell, that's the one type of mod that I do want want to see.
>>750336947Me too, I like making weird ass bases in strange places
>>750340082bro, your carbon pick and heavy charging perk?
>>750365605>>750365463I think the HP system is a bigger issue than the combat. Either you land headshots (or at least consistent damage to a body part to disable it and start dealing true damage) or things are damn near immortal.
>>750365463this>ALL guns feel weak as shit to use>bio-wraps are a fucking meme making the pistol the only worthwhile ammo-consuming weapon>energy pistol always feels shitty to use and drains fast>laser pistol is the only actually good gun, but immediately replaced by the laser katana>have to hit the same body part or you're just wasting damage>enemies are fucking gods with their guns and will always rape you into a bleeding mess for no real reason>melee's busted since you either bumrush sprint heavy strike or spam slashes with the laser katanaI don't understand how a half life inspired game was the worst gunplay even with adequate levels in accuracy/reload
>>750364740I thought that's what the kids like these days? RE4 Remake was pretty popular and that's a core mechanic.
>>750365927I mained carbon pick with the teleporting throw ability. Fucking love hucking something at something else only for it to come back to my hand.
>>750363667we'll save him when they let us time travel and prevent all our mistakes
>>750340586Chemistry is important for the Pheremone Flask obtainable during Labs, which charms enemies and lets you start taming and mutating peccary pets. Lv20 Peccaries of any variant are genuine workhorses for the entire rest of the game. They deal good damage, tank enemy attention well, and the only item slot they take is a new type that only pets go in. They're also endlessly revivable and teleport to you when lost. It's a game-changer.The main jank is bad tutorialization of taming but it does work surprisingly level. unpopular opinion, Alpha Pec SUCKS because at high levels it's so huge it starts needing your help through doors and narrow railings.
>>750368967nta, in my experience the Leyak pet is the best because it reduces the risk of unsettling encounters and actually does a shitload of damage when maddened. I never got to compare it's damage vs the bully pet though.
>>750345285I was always running out of rebar thanks to how amazing the upgraded magbow is, honestly. I agree with the overall sentiment though, it's even something Deus Ex ran into: what items can you possibly reward the player with for finding secret rooms in endgame areas? If you find the best gun ever in a closet under a bridge before the boss, isn't that a total waste? Yet if it's not... what's the point?
>>750336356I haven't played in like a year, just opened it back up. When they change Krasue from ice cream to vials of milk? I had a whole freezer of ice cream in front of my base to feed it, now I gotta figure out how to get milk before this thing gets out. It was an enormous pain in the ass to capture it in my main base.
>>750343196That guy just sucks, every encounter is solved by mugnades/slushie bombs and basic interaction with gear progression.
>>750365463>>750365605Enemy facing direction just being nonsense in combat is my biggest gripe. I do kinda like the dynamic where you dodge melee by moving away from the enemy (facing direction doesn't matter so circling does nothing unless it's a thrust attack) and you dodge ranged by moving to the sides. The combination of the two in fights means you have to mix your movements carefully. But the fact that the enemy MODEL's facing direction isn't their actual one is fucking insane and leads to dudes shooting you through their own backs.

>>750372909There is no point in moving bases when everything is connected to Office via the trams and walkways. And you can get the handheld teleporters at the lab.
>>750372909The best place to build a base till you reach Hydro apartments (in my opinion) is near the pool of water that is near a local area teleporter in mines/foundry. It's a perfect place to set up shop.
>>750372990teleporters let you base anywhere easily, available space and built in amenities like coffee machines are the only real considerations, along with aesthetics of course
>>750372909My experience was that for some reason moving bases sounds way more overwhelming than it turns out to be. The only pain point is solved by using temporary small-crate storage before you arrange your nicer sorted boxes (then shred them to recoup half the plastic).

>>750373054You have coffee machine in the small security booth near the start. Also vendind machines for both drinks and food. Just 5 seconds of jogging from that you have Warren and a charging station and slight hop down stairs from that you have infinite water fountain you can even fish from. You got pretty much everything you need in the office plaza. Only thing missing that's significant would be a slushy machine that is upstairs in the break room by datafarm.
how much was added since last xmas and was it good?
>>750336356How important is having friends to play this shit with? I did a melee build on console and was absolutely burnt out after going down that dam water tube.
>>750373657The only thing you need from vending machines is the candy that's used in fish bait, and plenty of other places have coffee/slushie machines. If you don't feel like crafting a dozen mug teleporters to get around everywhere then office is probably best but I rather not sit in the same security room every playthrough.
>>750336356I was blown away by how good this game is. I went into it knowing that I would enjoy it, but I didn't expect just how much I would enjoy it. Fucking amazing game. Hopefully the DLC is worth the wait.

>>750373894cool, thx
>>750373738Carrying around 1 extra teleporter that leads to a crafting bench on warren's platform is pretty painless and allows the real base to be anywhere you want, that's what I usually do. Then when you get teleporter pads you don't have to carry anything.
>>750374205nta, I set up a teleporter hub in the mirror portal to the flatworld. I had like 10 different portals set up to go anywhere we wanted. It's the perfect place for a hub too.
If they aren't gonna overhaul the progression then somebody needs to make a mod that does so. I know the drop multiplier mods exist but it isn't really an elegant solution.
>>750374370Just explore and don't collect shit you have tons of or can easily get tons of. You aren't picking up those glue sticks in reactors for any conceivable purpose for god's sake.

>>750374607There is. There's a single power box at the top of the ladder and as far as I know, neither the Leyak nor the Krasue appear there. There's also no invasions.
>>750372909I've moved there a few times. There's a tram right there, road access, and a furniture store around the corner.
One thing that changed is now that everyone has a 5000 HP dog soaking damage in combat, healing briefcase is dead. Most of it will go to the pet, and barely do anything for that pet. Briefcases spend energy per creature healed unfortunately, it's not free to heal multiple in the same AoE.
>>750363667Convenient way to handle not having any AI packages available for allied NPCs and being too lazy to make one.
>>750374709The latter things are true for all portal worlds, really the only reason not to base in them is they won't reset if you're in them, and furniture will respawn inside of stuff you place down.
>>750374778I'd rather stick to my ghost exor friend who doesn't need healing at all.

I'd adjust the game modifiers and boost a bunch of stuff like maximum carry weight, max stacks so you aren't as gimped by not having fellow pack mulessolo can arguably be easier because you don't need to grind multiple sets of equipment for players, and you can stealth kill enemies without your friends leeroy jenkins-ing into enemy groupsif you got burnt out by the water dam though I'd argue the game isn't for you though
>>750375684If you don't end the game with at least three radiation resistance containers full of leyak essence, you didn't play the game.

>>750374578>>750374632Hoarding shit you don't need doesn't really factor in when I'm talking about the progression being shitty. Reactors is a big tedious crafting check whereas the game before that operates and a comfortable curve of rising difficulty. If it were the case that Reactors served as a progression chokepoint I think that would be fine, but every piece of progression after that also feels like pulling teeth. You unlock a door and almost immediately run into an annoying difficulty spike standing in front of another locked door that requries a pain in the ass recipe to go through. The sense of exploration and discovery dries up as it just turns into a series of gates you have to go through which is exacerbated by shit like having to build a ton of null grenades for Shadowgate. Just making the progress keys became annoying enough that I no longer had the desire to craft the better gear I was getting access to.
>>750337774I got to a Dam area past that sector, and I think went to a portal world with like 1600s era tech and muskets, a spooky swamp, a witch, mines. Then I think i put the game down and cant really get back into it.I was having fun trying to experiment with building wooden ramps and shit to use as shortcuts or explore some spots.I logged back in one time thinking oh ill just make a ton of water and do weightlifting to max my melee strength but the character gets tired of lifting and puts you on a long cooldown. And that was my second playthrough, I made it to labs / zombie world / alien jump pad xen world on the first time
