Thinking about buying a Steam Deck. I'm sick of waiting for my favorite games to get a Switch 2 port. I don't really have an interest in Nintendo games, so I might make the jump.
>>750406654>Has a switch >I don't really have an interest in Nintendo games
>>750406654The original LCD model has a flaw with the trackpads, get the OLED.
>>750406654You should wait until they drop they price
mine's been flipping the fuck out about its battery lately for no reason. twice last night, while plugged in, it randomly said it was at 0% and shut down in the middle of a game. fucking irritating
>>750406960>wait until they drop they priceSo, never.
How do you carry that shit around in public without looking like the type of MF that enjoys Arby's food.
>>750407049Last year they dropped it down to $400
>>750406654Deck 2 is coming next year just wait
>>750407049or you could try getting a used one ebay
>>750406817The controllers are comfortable.
>>750407175That's too long of a wait though.
>>750407069Wish I lived in an area where you can whip a handheld of that proportion. Playing one in public is like asking to be mugged big time.
>>750406654Now that it's horribly expensive? Are you stupid?>>750406817Yeah? No one bought a switch to play the worst mario parties or the worst smash or the most forgettable 2D mario to date, they fell for the 3rd party port meme.
>>750407069Who says I'm playing it in public? I don't even bring my Switch 2 outside. I'm not getting my shit stolen at gunpoint.
>>750407279What games are you trying to play? Anything exclusive to this gen is basically a no-go in terms of performance. Even some indies are struggling on deck at this point
>>750407379i've never run into any performance issues, are you just talking about AAA bloatware?
>>750407379>What games are you trying to play?>RPCS3>PCSX2>Modded Skyrim and Fallout>GTA 4I know I'm not playing anything like GTA 6, so I should be fine.>
>>750407468Obviously if you think any game released in the last 10 years is shit then it'll be fine>>750407526Ps3 emulation probably struggles but the rest should be fine. Though with recomps it's possible that those ps3 games you're interested in get ported anyway
>>750407609octopath plays fine. digimon time stranger plays fine. all the dragon quest games play fine. i am again asking, are you strictly referring to bloatware, or are there real games that have performance issues?
>>750407379>Even some indies are struggling on deck at this pointNo, they aren't.>>750407526PS3 is pretty questionable. So are modded toddslop depending on what you're aiming for, these piles of shit can spiral out of control even on a desktop. Might as well just get robbed on the Deck 2 at that point.
>>750406654I got one at the original price of $399 but I really wouldn't recommend it at current cost.buy a used one on eBay if you're still considering it. the battery life is probably the biggest drawback. performance-wise it can't play everything but I keep that in mind when I pick games to install on it, so not a big deal imo>>750407069the only time I play it in public is when I'm on a flight, riding the shinkansen, or some other travel based activity where I'm stuck somewhere.it's not something you slap in your back pocket and whip out while you're in line at the cashier unless you're a mega dork
>>750407027Did you check the battery cable inside?
Which one should I get?
>>750408026no, i've been assuming it's a software issue and trying to dig around in desktop mode for a fix
>>750408079A legion or rog.
>constantly complains that Nintendo Switch 2 has no video games>but at the same time desperately wants a Switch 2 emulator to play on their steam deckHoly fucking shit NUKE BRAZIL.
>>750408079The expensive one, of course. You don't want to miss out on the 1Tb storage and exclusive goodies it has, don't you?
>>750408202>The filthy gaijin nuked us... Now it's OUR turn to play with the nukes AAAAAIIIEEEEEESimmer down, Takeshi Kumar. One day, you will work for Nintendo.
>>750408079If you're a poorfag, then for the love of god get an used LED for just $300OLED isn't worth thta pricetag. Hell, the only real reason as to why I would get an OLED instead, is solely because the touchscreen is fucking dogshit on the original model. You can forget about using a screen protector if you want to use that shit.
>>750406654I am a valve cocksucker and own a steam deck, but if you're going to buy new, I would probably recommend an Xbox Ally over a new Steam Deck at the current prices. It also supports SteamOS.
>>750406817I got one back in January to play Duskbloods because I had the foresight that RAM prices would raise its price and was hedging on exploits coming within 3 years.
>>750408202i have a switch 2 but I want a switch 2 emulator so that I can play modded games if I ever want to.only switch game I ever emulated is one I actually owned on switch, but I wanted to use mods for a new playthrough.
>>750407338>no one buys a Nintendo console for Nintendo gamesWhat?
>>750408807I didn't stutter. You live in your own little fantasy land.
>>750408128I mean, that shouldn't be the case unless you've been messing with system files. The system updates reimage the system files.
>>750407326>>750407369Stop living in big cities. Move to a quiet nice area with low crime.>>750407931This is an odd consensus to me. The point of a handheld is to be able to put it in your pocket, and play it at your own arbitrary convenience without it being some noticeably large peripheral that sticks out stupidly. I play pic rel all the time and it just fits in my pocket.
>>750409015if it fits in your pocket it's too small to play comfortably
>>750409082Really? I don't have any issues with it. You must have fat people hands.
>>750406654The Deck is ridiculously expensive now, just get an ROG Xbox Ally.
>>750409114alright dwarf man
>>750409015>The point of a handheld is to be able to put it in your pocketno the point is to hold it in your hands
>>750409173no, that can't be right
>>750406654OP I have some really sad words for you right now, but unless you can get a Steam Deck for 300 USD max it is genuinely not worth getting one. Several months ago Valve was flinging out their old LCD stock for less than 300.
>>750409173Yes, but I don't find the Steam Deck to be comfortable to hold. It's not really a portable device if I look like I'm controlling military drones when I play it.
>>750407931>it can't play everythingUhmm 30ish fps with low settings and FSR is technically playable, in the sense that you can play a game that way to completionHow tolerable that is varies from person to person though
>>750409308define "worth" for me
>>750409015no I agree. I mean I used to carry my advance SP everywhere, even to some extent my DSi liteI just don't feel the need to play games on the go as often as an adult now that I have freedom. when you're a kid you're often stuck places you don't wanna be, at least I was.>>750409412it is playable yeah. I just like muh frames so I stick to my backlog of stuff that I know will have zero performance issues. plus the more intensive the game, the faster it's going to die. if I play Ace Attorney I'm getting more time than if I were to play something maxing out the performance
>>750409412Lmao do steamies really?
>>750407069I don't use modern handhelds in public. The only handheld that doesn't make you look super autistic in public is the PSP anyway. 2000s Sony had class and it fits in your jeans pockets easily. The deck and the switch are for playing whilst in bed.
>>750409314>I don't find the Steam Deck to be comfortable to holdpost hands or you're an alien/weird animali found it to be super comfortable to hold, more than pretty much any other device. the weight is the only thing that makes it a little tiring after a while depending on your posture.but it's fine if you prefer smaller handhelds, it's just a different market. it's meant to go in a backpack, not in a pocket. I bring mine when I go on holiday and want to play games for a bit at night for example, not when I want to play on the go or while waiting in line.for actually pocketable handhelds there's a booming market of chinese emulator handhelds. and now the android ones can even play lightweight PC games quite well.
>>750409694I wish it was hip to make electronics smaller again. I remember when companies used to boast about how much smaller their new phone was to showcase how efficient the components got (especially with 'micro' products).I lost my faith in the median consumer when the iPhone 13 mini failed.
>>750406654>I don't really have an interest in Nintendo gamesthen why even get a nintendo console?>>750409694>playing visual novelsuse case?what's the difference between that and a book?>inb4. visual novel reader (i don't know why i do it either)
>>750406654wait for deck 2. It's not worth it now
>>750409848what do you mean by "worth it"?
>>750409731I have normal sized hands and I find that shit to be retarded to hold.
>>750409835i wonder if phones are bigger now since people don't really use other stuff for media anymore like laptops or tablets and shit for movies
>>750410002Too expensive and not that powerful for newer games.
>>750410074what is its true value, in dollars, and how do you calculate this number?
>>750409694This Chink handheld looks like a GBA and is comfy to play. I play it in public all the time and it makes aging millennial women wet with envy.
>>750406654get a claude subscription as well and you can port all your games to touch, steam controller, linux, vulkan.
This is the most comfortable handheld I have ever used. It even beats out the steam deck despite weighing more. But unfortunately performance is starting to lag. The current Trump economy is just really bad for this hobby.
>>750410121I mean, I paid around 570 bucks for it (oled). I love it, it's a pretty nifty portable console. Bought it in 2024. Now it's $200 more expensive for the same thing. It's just a really shitty time to buy any computer or console.
>>750410438that doesn't answer my question though. those are the market prices, not the value. how many dollars is the steam deck worth, and how do you calculate that?
>>750406654the biggest strength of the deck vs competitors was the price:performance on the LCD one. the OLED after the price increase is not worth the money anymoreI love my deck and use it all the time but I wouldnt recommend buying one unless you've got like steam marketplace items to sell for steambux to fund it. its not worth $800
