Has anyone releasing on epic lowered the prices? Only a single game did ever, that's it, everyone's pocketing the difference and throwing shit at steam for having the 30% cut.
All while they consistently fail to identify why people prefer steam over everyone else, why do people not switch stores?
Like EA's origin, Ubisoft uconnect, Battle.net? These stores that pocket the difference and don't even allow customers to return the games that they're legally obligated to do in the EU and australia, same shit with nintendo, MS and sony that have a zero return policy and even ban you for asking for a return.
Why is that the only alternative store that has any online discourse is GOG, which, how's that, offers more or less the same features as steam but adds some DRM free games to the pack?

These same cunts weren't complaining when retail stores were demanding up to 70% for shelf space and creative accounting by publishersr like Epic meant they could steal from devs until they "paid back the cost" of publishing them even if it meant devs getting zero fucking dollars.

Not that we'd have PC gaming at all if these cunts had any say.

These cretins don't seem to understand to beat Steam you need to offer something better. And they never want to do that, all they do is try use exclusive games to entice people to their new service in the hope that those people will then stop using steam.
They all want that 30% cut for themselves and are only mad since their plans to get it didn't work
>>
>>750536712
Fucking idiot doesn't realize that the people who love steam also buy games through steam. Which means that publishers still make a profit, even when they give 30% away from their profits.
You won't get people away from steam through buying the companies favor with a fixed sum. People will hate you for it, that they can't buy a game on steam. They'll also hate the publishers for being bribable.

Realistically, if steam lowered the cut they take Epic would change the rhetoric to something like:
>they use their unique monopolistic position to set the cut so low that no other store can afford that and therefore kill the competition.
There is no 'moral' with these companies, if something is making them money it is 'moral' and 'good for the customer'. That's their definition of these concepts.

There is literally not a single thing in that whole rant that is incorrect. If God himself created an objectively better client that gifts devs 10% extra revenue for publishing on their platform, Steam users would shout it down because competition is a threat to them. They don't want to install a new client, they want to have it all on Steam. What if it gets too popular and Steam goes out of business? There goes their $20000 library.

Lol the cope is delicious. We want competition. We're just going to choose the better product. Sometimes better products do fail in markets, but it's pretty uncommon. If EGS genuinely was more feature rich than Steam, it 100% would begin to pull away some users. The biggest issues is that EGS sucks, it doesn't have feature parity with Steam (by a fucking mile), the UI sucks, and they never improve or even seem interested improving any of these things. They just try to bribe you with free games, which just leaves a dirty taste in your mouth.

As it turns out, the more feature-rich platform is more influential than a bribe.

The absolute dogshit state of streaming services (Netflix, Disney+, AppleTV, Amazon Prime, etc. etc.) demonstrates what happens when you have "competition" instead of a single market leader that has everything. You need multiple accounts on several different services just to access certain products and you cannot access everything you want on a single login. Epic is doing this already with its exclusivity bullshit. All it ends up doing is bringing console wars retardation to PC, which defeats the entire purpose of gaming on the platform.

>>
>>750538223
It's also ignoring that it's not a flat 30% fee forever unless your game just is dogshit and never sells. 30% cut: Applied to a game's first $10 million in gross revenue. Lowered to 25% cut: Applied to a game's gross revenue from $10 million up to $50 million. Lowered again to 20% cut: Applied to any gross revenue above $50 million, so over time the more you make, the more you actually earn on Steam.

Steam's not that great. Considering gabe keeps pushing linux it doesn't actually run that well on linux. Eg. it doesn't natively support wayland, which is annoying. And its sort of slow. That's probably because it runs on CEF. Also its annoying that they don't have a steam client SDK. Why not? Why can't I make myself a steam client as a CLI? The closest they have is steamcmd. I also don't really understand why I need steam running for steam games. Why can't the game just do the DRM thing in its library? Why does it need steam running as a server on my machine for the game to negotiate with?
I've got a pathetic tiny 32GB of ram (jesus christ how did we get this bad???) so I have to close steam whenever I'm doing anything heavy just to scrounge back a few GB of it.

I'd probably get on board the gabe fanboy bandwagon if they provided a steam client SDK so I could just build my own steam client.

Why shouldn't Gabe enjoy the fruits of his success?
He started the company. He took all the biggest risks. He's not some fuckface CEO who was approved by a board, ruined everything, then bailed with a golden parachute.
Gabe Newell is the greatest example of a modern capitalist success story. He's the Henry Ford of the vidya industry. That's why you hate him. You think Steam revenue should be redistributed into the pockets of tranny indie devs whose games sold 10 copies out of some childish ideal of "fairness."

as an aside, epic fags don't understand what a monopoly is. a monopoly is not just equal to dominance, it's referring to owning every step of the manufacturing process to make competition impossible. for example imagine if steam bought every single game studio. THAT would be a monopoly because then they could just refuse to release the games onto epic. It's not a monopoly because steam only controls the distribution end, and they just happen to give a much better experience for developers than the competition. so game companies can choose where to release their games, and end users can choose what platform to use, and both choices are dictated by the services and features provided by each platform. it's entirely natural. and saying "but steam has too many people! it can never be dethroned!" is ignoring over a century of examples of large companies growing complacent and being overthrown by competitors

all these steam competitors do a lot to get people in the door but never do anything to keep them. Think outside the box a bit, like maybe give out store credit if you play x amount of hours or unlock x achievements. Instead of giving out the weekly free epic store game to everyone only give it to the people who are actually regularly using your service.
Also make sure the launcher isn't a resource hog and in your face when you're not playing games
>>
>>750536712
Why would a consumer arbitrarily wish for another sales platform to succeed? They only thing that would shift their viewpoint and go through the trouble of migrating are consciously using two platforms is if the alternatively gave vastly superior service. There is no meaningful reason whatsoever for a consumer to fight for a better cut for devs. Also, you should really get to work making actually having superior platform before claiming that having a superior platform wouldn't make a difference.

If Steam lowered their cut they would get sued by Walmart and Gamestop over predatory and aggressive pricing. Devs now getting a much more generous cut would entirely focus on digital Steam sales only and push people to abandon physical copies in order to get the highest margins. Which would put retailers like Walmart and Gamestop out of business. Steam taking a hit to negatively effect their part in the gaming industry in the long term is not something those retailers would allow to happen.
By having a 30% cut like everyone else Steam actively avoids being sued for abusing a monopoly position

I buy basically everything I can off steam but that doesn't mean I buy things exclusively off steam. I unfortunately have played wow so I have bought wow expansions off steam or I've bought games off the companys own website like Vintage Story or things off GoG.
Epic Games just doesn't have anything worth buying, anything it does have is just on steam. Get something worth buying and I'll buy it, it's not complicated.
Buying 1 year exclusiveness is also a cunt move btw. It makes people just dislike you as a person and not want to support your company. Also because all games release in early access anyway even ones that don't label themselves as early access it kind of benefits steam users since they get to have the game after all the patches come out.

Then implement something as good or better. there is no excuse for attempting to be a competitor with a shittier product, and there are even fewer excuses if you publicly proclaim that it's not that hard to match
This is like step fucking one and they repeatedly refuse and fail to meet it and then complain that competition is impossible like some kind of self fulfilling prophecy. It's like refusing to get a job because you think society is rigged against you specifically
>PC developers have no option but to distribute through Steam or lose the vast majority of sales
Except for fortnite and roblox, which make sense to cast as outliers, except one of them your fucking company owns in its entirety. get a grip. failing to monetize a storefront when you have a captive audience of hundreds of millions of little goyim is a failure on YOUR front, not any competitor's doing, and this is what they don't want to talk about

Literally everything they have done is complete garbage. Proton is a joke. Steam input has been broken for over a decade. SteamVR has felt like pre-alpha shitware for a decade too.

Even their hardware is bad. The Steam controller could've been the best new controller out there, but they've filled it with their poison like you can't actually set the activation distance on the triggers because they're worried about false inputs from some retard setting it too low. Same with the analog sticks, you can't set the neutral position so the deadzones have to be much larger than they need to be.
>>
>But realistically no avid Steam user wants other stores to succeed.
>The mere existence of other stores risks splintering their precious collection. They are "all-in" on Steam. Invested.
This is just untrue. Steam lets you add shortcuts to non-Steam games to your library. I can open Battle.net games and GOG games from Steam. GOG lets you do the same and in fact has Steam account integration so you can automatically load your whole Steam library to GOG.
I've never used Epic Games Store. Does it let you do this?

The funny thing is, they DID have success on PC. "Epic Megagames" before they dropped the Megagames during Gears of War was HUGE on PC. Unreal (Tournament) was HUGE and a competitor to Doom/Quake.

Timmy Tencent then went consoles with X-box (a Pentium 3 PC, ironically) as PC had a "piracy problem" (oh, like the PSP?) and then chimped out when crawling back PC gamers went "yeah, fuck you. You didn't port Gears, why the fuck should I care about your shit now?"

1. Stop fucking with the executables so I can add it as a 'non steam game'. You have got my money, stop being stupid and expecting people to open separate programs for games if their main collection is on Steam.
It would be like having a separate shelf in your house to put physical games on in your bedroom when your main collection is in the lounge.

Nobody also mentions that Steam lets you generate Steam keys for your games. Keys you can sell to third party sites. And Steam makes no money through Steam key sales.
I can put a game on Steam - charge 30 bucks for it - after that generate 10000 keys and sell those for 30 bucks each on my own site - or let someone like GMG or Humble buy them with a mass discount to get a lot of cash right away.
The only rule Steam has is that the games should not be substantially cheaper than the copy on the Steam store. A rule a lot of publishers break - but Steam doesn't even care enough to enforce the rule anyway

30% is a bit too much, I agree, but it works. It keeps Steam free of ads and free from other shitty premium services. If your game is actually good, it will sell despite that tariff
>3
Steam users love steam and gog too. Turns out there is more to it than having your game library on Steam.
>4
Nobody stops developers to release their game somewhere else. Most indie devs first release their game on ich.io and then on Steam. Steam is a must, because its the most popular gaming service out there. It will be stupid not to release your game there.
>5
Epic wanted to "eat" Steam with their Epic store, not to co exist with Steam. Hence why they used the "free gamez lol" and "exclusivity" scoundrel strategies in the past.
Its true that Steam had the headstart as the 1st online store for digital games on pc, but gog and itch.io have managed to coexist with that giant in peace. They dont seek to destroy Steam or be as big as Steam; they just offer something alternative to Steam

Tim Sweeney and his goons are lucky because Unreal Engine has been adapted the majority of videogame studios and makes them bank. Its the only thing that keeps these Unreal retards afloat

This fucking sentence: "Even if an alternative were objectively better, by whatever metric you care about" tells so much about how clueless this guy is.
Nobody needs a storefront that is better by some random metric. If I'm gonna use something other than Steam, it has to give me something that Steam doesn't or at least match Steam. GoG gives me DRM free games, so I do sometimes buy from GoG despite it being awful in every other regard. EGS gives me.... free slopware, so I don't use it because I can't even be arsed logging in to claim the free slop. If EGS was a literal 1 to 1 copy of Steam, I might consider using it, but they'd have to lock TImmy in the kennel first.

Steam might be a monopoly but its a monopoly not playing the monopoly cards. You don't see Steam do shady exclusivity deals - You don't see Steam strongarm publishers into malicious deals. The 30% goes towards things like steam providing gameservers and networking to connect your players together. And having to pay 30% vs 12% is well worth the price of getting to shill to 10x more users. You can't compete with steam here until you actually get a comparable number of players, and even then if end users don't see these profits no one cares. What if for a $10 game, instead of making it so that devs vs store is a 88/12 split, you make it like steam and give devs 70, but then use that remaining 18% to just reduce the cost of the game upfront to consumers?

They are associated with cutting edge fidelity and FOMO culture of gam1ng. Valve gives hope to the brrrs and pajets of the world by funding work that makes old stuff work. Epic is in that sense just part of the fueling the worst parts and instinct of the culture. It's the same shit all over again, "wicked" marketing targeted at identity and young adults is just thinly veiled exploitation. As an enthusiast all I see is a corporation who think fidelity is the objective measure through which to judge videogames, and therefore I cannot trust them. Maybe Valve's values is kept solely due to Gabe, in which case it's GabeTrain until he croaks and then I'm out. Or rather I'll find something different, maybe GoG.

Most of the big hardware and software companies think they're the hottest shit, when in fact everyone is just captured inside the ecosystem. Which is probably why these people can't cope with competition. In fact most of the positives that valve get is literally just sticking to the status quo, while everything gets enshittified. It's just raw incompetence and disconnect from the enthusiast audience.

Yeah they talk like every buyer is a potential indie dev, and every buyer cares deeply about the publishers/developers. To an extent I care about the devs if it's for a game I like, but they're corporations. It shouldn't be on me to try and push their raft for them.
>>
The 12% Epic are offering aren't even sustainable. Timmy is eating a loss financed by Fortnite cash.
Steam could of course do the same with Dota 2 and CS2 but why would they? It's not like they need to convince devs to use Steam. And Steam using 12% would also be too aggressive considering their market position. Sony, MS, Nintendo and retails would view Steam offering 12% as a declaration of war.
>>
>>750536712
Why are they so obsessed over the 30% number when it's the exact same as Xbox and Sony? JUST LOWER PRICES
IT'S THAT EASY
Let's do some quick math: 30% of 70 is 21, so 21 goes to steam, 49 to the publisher
Now if Epic charges 12% instead of 70, the publishers could set the price at 60, 7.2 goes to epic, 52.8 goes to the publisher
They gain a little bit more even, and the price is 60 instead of 70
Will they do it? NO, BECAUSE THEY'RE GREEDY FUCKS
Does Microsoft publish games at lower prices on their consoles or on their store compared to Steam where they have to give a 30% cut? NO
Does EA publish games at lower prices on their store compared to Steam where they have to give a 30% cut? NO
Does ANYONE publish games on Steam at 70 and at 50 on their store? NO, BECAUSE THEY'RE GREEDY FUCKS
PHYSICAL GAMES COST THE SAME AS DIGITAL FOR NO REASON
JUST LOWER THE PRICES
There, it's that easy

Most games Valve has made since Half-Life, except Half-Life 2, Ricochet, Artifact, and Deadlock have been a direct consequence of them hiring new people based on the cool things they made on their own, so Valve can own a better, more polished version of those good ideas.

Counter-Strike was a Quake mod called Action Quake, turned into a Half-Life mod called Counter-Strike, which was made an official product.
Team Fortress was a Quake mod turned into a Half-Life mod called Team Fortress Classic, then into a totally original overhaul called Team Fortress 2.
Left 4 Dead started as a Counter-Strike: Condition Zero mod called Terror Strike.
Portal was a student project at Digipen called Narbacular Drop and the Gel mechanics in Portal 2 were taken from another Digipen project called TAG: The Power Of Paint.
DOTA 2 is a standalone sequel to a Warcraft 3 mod called Defense of the Ancients.
And DOTA Underlords was supposed to be an official version of DOTA AutoChess, but the original team decided not to work with Valve, so Valve made their own version anyway.

Even Half-Life Alyx integrated expertise that they bought out Campo Santo for.

Tim and Epic Games make original ideas meanwhile Gabe and Valve just poach students from local universities, reuse the gameplay mechanics from the student projects and pass it off as their own and then hires and fires the students from Valve after a year or two while Valve makes off with millions of dollars. Gabe also had the audacity to claim Valve makes original products.

Steam would get attacked by Nintendo and Sony sharks over predatory pricing attacks. They would argue that 12% are not sustainable and that Steam are using their marketleader position to fuck over their competition and build a true monopoly, And they would probably win.

Put it at 49.99 on Epic and people might actually buy it there
But they don't, because publishers don't want to lower prices, they like the extra profit, but don't realize that 49.99 on EGS is more than 59.99 on Steam

I still remember 2008 when Gears 2 came out and Epic abandoned the PC for Xbox exclusivity. They said piracy made PC untenable and consoles were the future. Gog is good but doesn't have every new release. I don't want to buy shit on EA or Ubisofts trash service because I have no faith they won't just shutdown the service at some point and take my games away. Epic wanted to corner the industry for 100% profits, but as the player numbers dwindle, Timmy's panicking that mobile didn't expand the numbers enough to keep things afloat thanks to the years of legal battles with Apple and Google, even if he did "win". He wants to effectively try to use his fanboys or associates and find any means to force Valve to let Fortnite onto Steam so he can rapidly expand the playerbase again while minimizing any profit losses as much as possible, all the while frustrated that Epic Store is an abject failure to launch and no one seriously uses it for buying games or even playing them that much, not even the immense number of freebies they wasted money on out of their own pockets.
This is just another step in the same shit as his rambles last year that Call of Duty and Roblox will one day be part of his big metaverse (now "megaverse") dream where you'll have Fortnite skins in both games as if he'll take over everything to be the Ready Player One king of all gaming and existence. He's desperate, and he's lashing out every other week now moaning that it's unfair that Steam gets so much success where he doesn't despite the sheer money he made. He knows he's a fad that's slowly falling out of fashion, and instead of actually taking steps to fix it, they half-assed all of those and are now falling back to "blame the competitors for unfair practices so you get a leg up."

Tim wants to rule it all and the only way he can figure how is defamation and playing dirty while lying through his teeth every step of the way.

DAILY REMINDER
This entire tantrum is because timmy tencent is mad that he missed out due to him believing that pc gaming was dead 18 years ago.
https://news.softpedia.com/news/Tim-Sweeney-Says-the-PC-Is-Dead-for-Games-80714.shtml
This was 2008. Literally the perfect time to start building a competitor to steam. Instead he decided that pc gaming was a shit platform and that valve can have it, only for him to end up regretting it years later.

How come Sweeney and co have been seething especially hard against steam recently?
Theyre trying REALLY hard to convince people but its clearly falling on deaf ears and most people kind of know theyre full of shit.
>>
There is literally nothing stopping the likes of Epic and EA and Ubisoft and Capcom and Activision and whoever else the fuck just selling an EXE download of their games on their own websites while still selling the games on steam. But they dont want to do this as when they complain about this shit all they mean is they just want their own client to profit from like steam.

Instead all their games like rocket league and fallguys were basically released titles that got a huge reception then got taken off steam by epic to be their exclusive. Like in what world is that consumer friendly.
>>
They should really put Wow on Steam so I can finally uninstall Battle.net
>>
Sweeney was 100% right about Steam's AI disclosure rule being a weird political crusade. Valve turns a blind eye to literal asset flips and hentai shovelware every single day, but the moment small indie devs try to use AI tools to level the playing field, Valve flags them so a toxic mob can review-bomb them. Tim is the only exec actually standing up for indie studios.

I love how capitalists pretend everything is hard numbers and things like:
>reputation
>credibility
>stability
>customer service
>safety
>etc
Don't exist, you THINK your vibecoded storefront is technically the same as Steam because look all the code and numbers are the same, but your vibecoded storefront doesn't have 20 years of reputation of positive customer experiences that give users a sense of safety regarding their DIGITAL purchases which are easily pulled and undone on every other storefront.

Customers also like doing business with a private company that isn't beholden to shareholders, and whose owner seems like a cool guy that loves games instead of a sleazy businessman looking for every opportunity to fuck users over to squeeze out an additional dollar.

All of these are things that are much harder to build and obtain than the storefront itself, which Epic knows otherwise they'd be advocating for a splintered free market of storefronts where every game has its own launcher instead of solely trying to draw people over to their own shitty storefront that has absolutely nothing in terms of abstract human value.

The ebin games store doesn't seem to understand that even if Steam goes down no one will switch. People stick with Steam because of the perception of stability. Protip: Unless you're a game developer, it's really not your problem. It's also not going to really change anything because the bitching and moaning won't convince most consumers to abandon one platform for another just so game devs can earn a few more dollars, most of people just don't care. You can mostly blame that on brand recognition, fearmongering, knowing where the fuck most of your friends are, launcher convenience, and/or being too lazy to figure out how to use a whole different launcher client's UI.

>1. steam infrastructure is somewhere between "not that hard" and "trivial"
Yet epic games store is at least a decade (if not more) behind it.
>2. 30% fee for the privilege of using infrastructure services, but in reality it's just for steam's userbase
30% fee only for games selling under $10m, the very games where building equivalent infrastructure is not economically feasible. For games above $50m, fee is down to 20%
>3. Steam has sales and cards and achievements, oh my!
Here's where it's clear he doesn't at all care about making good products for other people. He just wants to complain that the players he feels entitled to choose to give their attention to a better product
>4. Not releasing on Steam destroys the business model
Any business model that could work would still work with Steam's 30% fee so this is really a non-issue
>5. no avid Steam user wants other stores to succeed

There's really no reason to use other stores given steam's service is better unless you care about DRM or are very price-sensitive. Steam hasn't really fucked up in any major way in the past 3 decades, can't say the same about most other competing stores.
The one valid criticism of Steam is that they will disfavor marketing games being sold on Steam at a higher price relative to other stores. This means Sweeney's idea of passing savings on to customers isn't a viable way to bring users over.
That being said, if I were at Epic I would try to build an open game client library which can plug in to any store, supplanting a large chunk of the Steam network effect. This would probably be the one good move they can do if they cared about making PC gaming better instead of just fighting over market share.
>>
People use GOG
People will never use the Epic Game Store for anything other than to collect free games.
>>
>>750542761
Then sell the games with no drm as a benefit over the steam version. This is basic shit. You have to give customers an incentive to move away from the thing they are currently using.
>>
I'll gladly pay the 30% because it means my players can super easily host and join eachother's friends in multiplayer using Valve's relay servers and they provide the Steamworks library/dll to easily interface with all that. I'd have an issue with the 30% figure if that wasn't universal

Epic is complaining about an issue that's decades old. You can want to change it, but don't point at your competitors saying they're evil for following a market trend, point at the market trend.

On top of that, the entire conversation from Epic is just crying because they can't get their PC market up no matter how hard they try. The tactic of saying "we Will only take 10%, please" represents a dream of taking 10% of a huge part of the PC market which is still billions of dollars. Some activist that's trying to start a movement that, if it succeeds, nets them a billion dollars makes no one trust the activist even if they're right.

I've tried to buy stuff outside of Steam but more than once I've been fucked because of it.
I bought Lisa the Painful on Itch, and eventually when the remaster of Lisa got released only people who bought it on Steam got the upgrade.
I bought Buckshot Roulette on Itch, when he added multiplayer he refused to give it to people on Itch or generate Steam codes for Itch purchasers so he could force everybody to buy it again on Steam.
I'm not dumb enough to put this on Valve, it's the devs who decided to be cunts about it. End result has just shown me if I want to buy, I'm less likely to get screwed down the line if its on Steam.

Timmy's position doesn't hold any water because after all this time Epic's store is complete shit. I want more money to go into the dev's hands and any time they sell their game off their own website (Factorio, Starsector, Tales of Maj'Eyal, etc) I go out of my way to do so but a lot of the time people aren't confident enough in their product to sell it themselves I guess.

Had to show my little bro how to clear internet history, because my mom saw porn in the history, even that was kinda upsetting to me because he should be able to do whatever the fuck he wants in private.

They won because they were there first, not because they're particularly good or care about developers in any stretch. Caring about developers is caring about costumers, the other way around just farms resentful and spiteful trash that think paying money to you makes you their slave. Costumers ask for more, developers can't keep up, Steam keeps taking your money = exhaust

Epic and GoG clients do not run on Linux. Steam also has compatibility for older games.
>>
>>750543040
Some retards that can't have left their dad's nutsack before 2010 seem to think we'd have an UTOPIA of drm-free physical games, but the truth is we'd have a clown show of competing and increasingly intrusive drm solutions. Not to mention some other entity would make the first big digital distribution service, likely a huge publisher.
IMAGINE if fucking EA held the keys to The Place To Go for pc games.
>>
>>750543687
because smaller number good versus bigger number bad
despite the fact that every time you see the "BUT THE DEVS" argument, that shit only matters for truly small time indie devs running out of their own pocket; the vast majority of consumers don't even realize it's the publishers that get all proceeds, most devs just work their contracted time and fees and never see anything but a potential greenlight for more work for their success.
>>
>>750543461
we also know epic are massive hypocrites that would do a 180 if they ever got to be relevant like steam.

At least GOG is working on a native Linux launcher

If Steam didn't exist something exactly like Steam would've taken it's place. There isn't a world where Steam doesn't exist.
>>
>>750543479
stop giving me reasons to not install it....
>>
>>750543040
Worse. It really is just the different between shopping online and going to multiple places to see if they have that one game you want.
>>
>>750543806
they would be much worse, we are talking about a company that don't user to review games on their platform

I honestly think it's a desperate attempt to get a response, any kind of response from Valve at this point
Tim desperately wants to be acknowledged as competition, but Valve still plays the game like he isn't even there, and functionally, he might as well not be
And that makes Tim absolutely seethe
>>
>>750543726
Being worked on dough. But yeah, the fact that Epic still hasn't had one at parity with windows...It's literally like they don't want to compete or they have some kind of internal problem.
>>
>>750543707
Nah the old adage holds true. Until you’re legally an adult your parents are the boss of you and have complete superiority over all facets of your life

I don't like Steam for banning my nipponese games. But I can get boxed copies for a lot of them thankfully. This guy acts like there's any advantage to using Epic Game Store. They don't even have exclusives other than like Fortnite. They just lost Barotrauma too. Looking forward to playing more of that with friends when the DLC lands.
>>
>>750543040
Worse. I always hated discs and just downloaded no-cd cracks for every game I owned.
>>
>>750538907
>Furthermore
why does every reply have to be an essay?
>>
>>750543875
they don't allow user reviews? ew epic's like the failed reddit equivalent of steam, only echochambers and "good" politics allowed

one of the reasons every other store fails is that they don't understand culture, steam has culture, look at this pic of the 2 different Halloween sales, EGS is just some text with no flair, Valve actually put effort into it, they try and make a sale fun and exciting
>>
>>750543040
We'd be into the 50th iteration of denuvo by now, the performance hit would be dozens of times worse, it'd be more aggressive with "activations" (any change in your hardware at all), plus probably demand some PCIe hardware to validate it and also datamine your entire block every 100 seconds. Half of this stuff was already happening in the 2000s with DRM on discs.

>>750543952
To let you know he's been seething for minutes and only added that response afterwards.

Reviews are useful too.

Why is literally every game garbage? What happened?

Ths post right here is everything wrong with the current game climate. Armies of people who have chosen 'the good guy' and fuck anyone else delivering a legitimate point they're just screeching with a wall of text. So many ignorant people in game communities defending their para social relationships with who they determine are populist 'good guys'. You people are fucking EVERYONE over. And you're so fucking stupid you honestly put out images portraying strawmen of your opposition with wojaks. Not the tiniest bit of self reflection. This is generally a rot problem at the core of how gaming cultures create narratives and steam's parasocial cult influence is the biggest living example of that right now.
>>
>>750543920
>They don't even have exclusives other than like Fortnite
Well when they were nabbing exclusives it didn't really work out in the end
>>
It's retarded to whine about Steam's cut but he is right about the cultist nature of the userbase, and it is ridiculous to witness. But they earn their money and are still the best option, so I guess I'll worry about it more once Gaben dies and the company goes to shit but people continue defending them and pretending they're flawless.
>>
>>750544001
>epic constantly tries to tout sales and free games to get people to come over
>no one remembers what they even have in their libraries
>steam has one artist make a pink-haired delivery girl for a couple seasonal events
>people keep begging for it to come back or get some continuation since there's expectations of unique art every year for each seasonal / eventful sale
>>
>>750540235
It's funny because this image also proves that OP's image is extremely disingenuous:
>Steam takes a reduced cut if the company/studio sells a lot
>b-but the rich keeps getting richer
And that's why you can't ever win lol.

tim and his mooks are so full of shit. i own plenty of games on GOG. i was even buying on fucking uplay for a while before they made it so the rewards you got expired. i'm more than happy to support stores that bring actual value. i have games on fucking dlsite and mangagamer and jast because i'm a gooner. and ofc i own plenty of steam games too, i do actually like steam.

you know which service i've never bought a game on? epic fucking games store. you know why? because there's no reason to. every single thing about it is worse than steam. they can cry and bitch all they want but at the end of the day, unlike GOG, they offer no actual benefit over using steam.

tim can go shove a rod of molten lead up his ass. he's such a disingenuous lying fuck, every single thing he says is just pure bullshit.
>>
>>750536712
That's nice but EGS is a shit platform
>steam is trivial to replicate
then do it
>>
didn't Tim go full AI and it backfired and all he got is more hate? lmao
>>
>>750544064
you're literally mad at steam and siding with the guy who said pc gaming is dead we're being console exclusives because steam has open forums...
like at least try to not be a bigoted shill.
>>
>>750544128
>people continue defending them and pretending they're flawless.
stereotyping from the wokie crowd. meanwhile if you go on resetera they'll ban you for hate speech for rating last of us 2 a 7/10
>>
>>750544290
Tim went full AI and ended up with a broken storefront and launcher that didn't launch the right games
>>
>>750544064
Some of the points could be viewed as "valid", but the entire thing is disingenuous because EPIC would be infinitely worse than valve. Why? Because they are a publically traded company.
>>
>>750544001
I bet a dollar the EGS banner is AI generated.
>>
>>750536712

There's plenty of games that still release on other platforms. What's that minecraft clone game that released into early access on it's own website? How many people will buy GTA6 on rockstar platform? How many people will play wow forever on battle.net? That's just a blatant lie. Developers use steam for convenience.

> a black hole

this nigger is sucking up to wall street jews - "we can't take your money to fund DEI studios" basically

these niggers are trying their hardest to get steam regulated for monopoly. Do they complain about microsoft Windows' 95% market footprint on OS? I mean, who's trying to compete with that monopoly.... oh wait... SteamOS is trying.
>>
>>750542195
>easy to send your data to Tencent and the CCP, I guess
Riot's malware client already does that
