Hardware hasn't made a profit for 25 years, the division was never made a subsidiary to Microsoft back in 2001, the engineering team isn't also a software team. Fixing something this broken and busted is just too much work. Xbox served its purpose but the moment Sony and Nintendo got PC parts and fixed their controllers, it was over for Xbox. Xbox has no legacy nor does it have an identity. No one cares about its franchises anymore. Its mistake was wanting to be green PlayStation instead of being the Direct Xbox for translating PC games into console games.

The only way to save Xbox was to do what Sony Group Corporation did to PlayStation, turn them into a subsidiary upon their creation. This would have kept Microsoft Corporation out of Xbox and it would have allowed Xbox to build an in-house team responsible for both hardware and games built for said hardware along with custom cheap parts for a console without losing billions on it. They should have did this instead of poaching studios like Bungie and Lionhead just to destroy them. Maybe then Xbox wouldn't have been a generic piece of shit. Xbox also should have heavily relied on Windows PC gaming to the point where Windows PC games and Xbox games were essentially the same. Xbox would have just served as an extension to Windows gaming. Too little, too late, Xbox can't be saved because they fucked it up right at the beginning in 2001. There is no fixing this brand because they don't think like a Japanese company. Hell, they can't even think like Valve, and Valve is shit at hardware which tells you everything about Microsoft and their Xbox.

The exclusives could lose money but it would be ok if Xbox saw it as an advantage over sony. When Phil decided to put all his eggs in first party and buy upcoming studios it forced them to sell out to Tencent and Saudi Arabia. Now Xbox is in a ton of debt from buying too many studios and can't bankroll anybody as they can't afford to pay for their own shit. He basically forced Xbox into being a game publisher rather than a console manufacture so he had to go third party and sell on PS5 as that is where the customers were. Asha has tried to make everything exclusive again and remain a console manufacture but this won't work. Gears cost hundreds of millions to make and the xbox has the smallest market share of customers. The xbox series x cost $800 which is too high to play one game even if you really want it. Gears won't move the needle and neither would anything else. The only correct move is go third party and become a publisher. You can sell a premade PC and call it "Xbox", or the second option which is spin off Activision and Bethesda.

Mass Effect, Bioshock, Ninja Gaiden 2, Alan Wake, Lost Odyssey and Oblivion were all 360 exclusives some timed some permanent. All those studios had to do a bunch of money schemes to stay afloat.
