>Everyone talks about now is AI AI AI AI AI >The AI in NPCs remains the same braindead it always is>Everyone still talks up FEAR for having the best AI and how it hasn't been beatedMan, fuck this.
same with search engines being the worst they're ever been. why can't companies focus on the most flawed things first instead of inventing new shit
>>750770632>Shitty AI:(>Shitty AI, but the enemy screams what their about to do:DI fucking hate FEAR fanboys so fucking much.
>>750770821this actually speaks badly fof modern AI, because if the solution to sell "smart AI" was so simple, modern games would have done that, and yet they failed to do something so simple.
>>750770632I promise I meant to write beaten, but wrote beated by mistake. Please don't make fun of me.
>>750770632>AIAI in games and AI as a common term are fundamentally different things and it depends entirely on the context what you actually mean when you say it, you are an ignorant retard for not understand this
>>750770632They've been gimping AI for 20 years so that modern audiences are able to compete with the computer. They're not about to upgrade now.
>>750770968>this actually speaks badly fof modern AI, because if the solution to sell "smart AI" was so simple,It literally is that simple. Ace Combat fights suck for the most part, but any Ace Combat fight where all your allies and enemies are screaming at each other are fucking amazing.
>>750770791search engines were intentionally disabled. if you compare them to how they were 15 years ago you'd be amazed.
>>750770632Yeah, that's the retarded thing about all this shit. AI isn't being used in the areas that would revolutionize gaming, like enemy and NPC AI, and creating dynamic, living characters and worlds. Hell, just being able to talk to NPCs by typing out what you want to say would be a good first step.
>>750770632LLMs and such are a completely different thing from vidya AI, just because the same term is used doesn't mean they're the same thing
Most open world games have more complex AI systems than FEAR, youre just a dumbass and dont know what you're talking about
>>750770632WHOAH it's almost like the so called AI was called something else before grifters rolled out.
>>750771069>Saar!!! Do not redeem jokes saar!!!
>>750770632For me it's 4x AI, they still have no way to create challenge besides letting it blatantly cheat. We have people screaming about superintelligence and the Stellaris AI is still completely retarded
>>750770632>best ai is just the enemies announcing their actionsits not hard to do this retard, also the game was completely dependent on having small combat areas so they could fine tune the pathfinding.
>>750772275Not to mention you need to actually run the LLM to begin with. Even if you managed to lobotomize an LLM down to using 1GB (practically braindead) you'd still have to have that running alongside the games graphics and when you have AMDjeet releasing 4gb "gaming cards" then there's no way to do it without getting review bombed by cheap retards.Maybe in like 5 years we'll see some cool games utilize AI, but now right now. It'll just be cool little novel indie releases until then.
>>750772982>it's not hard to do thisand yet it's hardly ever done>the game was completely dependent on having small combat areasthat's the majority of games in general, and they still all have shitty enemy encounters
This is the future of gaming. Fuck graphics, we want believable NPCs that react to shit we say and do in the game. Not scripted lines, or dumbass companions to babysit
>>750771259Why is nobody exploiting it and becoming the good search engine?
>>750775038>Why is nobody exploiting it and becoming the good search engine? They are. it's called ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. Making a better search engine is like making a better horse drawn buggy now.
>>750775370>Changing a useful tool for a somewhat useful one???
>>750774781you'll be playing cloud games exclusively
>>750770632STALKER 1,2 AND 3 HAVE THE BEST AI IN GAMING THE AI WILL SNEAK UP ON YOU WHEN YOUR WAITING SHIT ALWAYS GETS ME
Unironically the division 2 has really good AI, especially on the harder difficulties and especially the black tusk enemies. They flank, move into crossfire positions, use airbursts and explosive drone to knock you out of cover and do firing menouvers. A lot like the AI in FEAR but better. The different factions have different tactics and fighting styles as well which makes fighting each faction interesting.
okay this is obviously a technologically illiterate thread, but I do expect the next batch of games to get very, very good AInot because you'll be running a llm along with the game, that would be fucking retarded, but because 'smart AI' is extremely expensive to develop, because it involves an insane amount of testing due to edge cases and general pathfinding bullshit that can occur on modern game settings (lots of props, destruction, complex animation systems that will tell the AI it can't do X or Y right now, etc etc), but now with AI, all of this is cheap as fuckyou tell your claude to start working on a testsuite for a new system; and it does, and it's implemented and running in 30 minutes time, and then you can get back to workAI, props creation (including variation between same type props), quest lines and quest complexity, these fields are going to become so fucking interesting and I cannot wait to see how this is going to evolve>b-b-b-b-b-but it's not thereyeah no shit you stupid retard, we've had workable AI for only a few months, these games have been working on for seven years, you can't just 'plug it in XD' you fucking faggotwell, you can, you could, but they won't and they can't because it'd involve a lot of money and a lot of fear from the investors, which is a lot of money
>>750780342AI can't playtest effectively because there's no way to measure how fun a game is. I predict nothing will happen.
>>750781363that's not what I said and that's not the problem, anonthe issue right now is that, for someone to test if the AI does something it should do, you have to have someone sitting their ass down and figure out if the AI is doing what it should be doing, that takes time and effort, and then iterating on this ('oh it didn't go around the corner because of this stupid rendering bug' and now you're back to the drawing board) is way too time and money consuming, but AI solves all of these problems, this is also true of quests for example: how do you test to make sure your NPC is going to be able to follow you through the map as it should?right, that takes a while isn't it?what if you can just run the game headless at 20x speed and for the clanker to crunch all that data as it does?this isn't something that's easy to grasp or understand mind you, so I don't blame the average gaymer for not understanding how huge current gen AI is for the industry, but I can assure you that things are going to change, hopefully in the right way
>>750775038Yandex exists.
>>750779995This shit only happened on my second playthrough to me, was legitimately amazed
>>750779995i played this game a shit ton and never saw this
>>750779928is this still worth playing in 2026? been thinking about trying to for a while, just never got around to it.
>>750778247You could condense an AI to know the game and run locally.
>>750781661No, I get it, but defining exactly what to test is not easy. Sure you could detect stuff like the player falling out of the map, but a good game needs to be played a lot to be refined properly. The more fluid and open-ended your game is, the more difficult testing is. A lot of the best games were jank on a technical level but felt great to play. Also, if you don't trust your AI to write the game logic properly, you can't trust it to write the tests either.
>>750783420>No, I get it, but defining exactly what to test is not easy.I don't know what to say bro, but this is the year 2026 and opus writes much better and more thoughtful testcases than I can (and of course at the speed of light) and I've been doing this shit for a long time nowthere is going to be an opus 6.0 some dayand a 7.0 too
WoW now has AI companion dungeons. They are dumber than the worst player in existence. They will try to path through walls. They will strafe the maximum amount possible maintaining attack range to ensure pulling everything. But they mean no queue time so they are automatically better. They still won't let you queue for any serious content. I'm a nolifer and I still don't put up with the groupfinder that is always 'have gear better than the content gives'.
>>750770821kill yourself troon
>>750770632FEAR AI was carried by great level design, impressive graphics, physics and lighting tech, if you put them in any modern vidya they would be laughable, stumbling around like retarded oblivion NPCs
>>750779995Unreal 1 already had this in 1998
>>750786032Unreal had unmatched AI until FEAR or Halo.
>>750770632>beatedFuck you and kys, you brown ESL waste of space.
>>750784503"bro", gamedev is not webshit or enterprise software where you can point to a bunch of green test cases or filled checkboxes to claim victory. The game has to be fun. This is the same problem AAA has where it imports coding techniques from bank software and tries to systematize and outsource everything, hence soulless bland UI and QoL with the same formulas over and over. AI will only make this worse.
>>750787130'bro' you made my point for me; you're a gaymer, and you didn't understand a thing I said, and it's fine, this isn't your job to understand what I'm saying or what's going on, your job is to buy our games
>>750770632I expected physics and destructible environments in games to advance because ultimately interactivity is the main draw of videogames but instead we're still running down static corridors except with better lighting and higher res textures. Fuck this gay earth.
>>750771259Results have become scripted. It’s almost as if an entity were directing what it wants search engines to show.
>>750770632Fear ai isn't even that advanced. They just added audio cues and programmed every arena around the AI's capabilities. So it looks more advanced than it is
>>750780342Modders seems to be able to do it just fine...
>>750783132I played in the spring for the first time and I had fun. I do agree with all of what that guy said, the unique tactics for each faction made it more engaging
>>750787441It's easier to sell the modern brain dead gun or ball gamer on pretty graphics than it is to sell them on dynamic environments or enemies
um ackshually the AI in FEAR blah blah blah etc etc etc
>>750788286that's the point; you always couldbut modders have weaponized autism and they do it for free, why do you think it takes the devs months if not years to update their quest mods?but this takes time, a studio has to pay its devs (lol) and these devs are often not as passionate about the game as the modders are, it's just how these things go, so if something is 'annoying' to do and takes time, even if it's not necessarily hard: they won't do itand that's where AI shines because it doesn't complain, it doesn't feel bored, it's not going to tell you 'no I don't want to run this test AGAIN, ugh, they're flaky anyways so who cares', no, the clanker will say yes master and go do itthis is why it's so good, because now a dev that doesn't care can get fired, and you can instead get the autists that, though they're less good at technical things, will make up for it in weaponized autism and passion, and the AI will cover their weaknessesthe golden age of video games is coming, people just don't realize what it means
>>750772275This, but god damn whoever the fucking asshole was that called the updated versions of machine learning "AI" is probably the smuggest person on the entire planet at this point seeing how hard people ate it up.
>>750781740>gives you 40 results in russiant-thanks...
>>750788480If the dev doesn't care, he'll never prompt the AI to do it. Even if it could. The big AI companies write their apps with AI but they still have open bugs languish for months, probably because no one bothers to even tell the AI to fix them.>get the autists that, though they're less good at technical things, anon autists are the ones good at technical things, the whole dream of AI is that everything can just be businessmen giving each other firm handshakes
>>750788986>no that's how the real world really is, I read it on redditI don't care bro, I can see with my own eyes every day I work how this really works, yes autists are good at technical things, but that doesn't make them autistic about the things they should be autistic about, and because they're good at technical things, they're often pushed to do the technical things instead of doing what they want: and what they'd be best at in the AI era, which is to care about whatever their autism is tickling them aboutdoesn't matter either way, I care not for these 'nuh-huh' conversations
