From what I've seen, the actual appeal of HSR lies outside of the game itself, in the huge secondary market and offline event scene the game has built for itself through the goodwill of its playerbase, wistfully aware that the game will keep on abusing their favourites as provide cosplays and fanart, and purchase figures, plushies, keychains and acrylic stands from an unworthy company of ivory tower Shanghai millennials for an exorbitant price.They truly are beloved characters, yet HSR will never again be what it once was, and that's ultimately ok.

The worldbuilding took a massive dip after he was moved to the Honkai Nexus Anima team some time in 2024, though that might just be correlation.
