Japan still makes Wizardry and Ultima clones.
The west does not. The west doesn't even make games anymore, just shitty movies.

Western RPGs are for the autists with boundless creativity, Japanese RPGs are for the autists who struggle with creativity and clamp onto other sources for entertainment. Not meant as an insult, just a manner of fact that some people just can't self-insert and instead want an experience tailored around specifics. It's also why there's differing levels, such as older JRPGs having choices, like Tales of or FF, and limiting builds amongst weapon and character classes.

This asian-white racial division thread and these posts and more brought to you by Jeremy Barry Eric Sophia Rugga Joshua the 3 inch dick 40 year old blackcel, hos goal is to shit up this board, whose only culture as an African American is pitting successful groups against each other (e.g. baiting Asians to fight against Whites etc because he's too scared to get in the ring himself). He also spams console warring threads, final fantasy threads, shonen threads, blacked and ntr cope for his tiny chode etc etc. he is a homosexual and groomer and tries to turn guys gay and into trannies as that is his fetish and he's a tranny tier incel. he spams 200+ posts in threads he makes, falseflagging and samefagging. Also a /co/tard who has an inferiority complex to /a/. He also copes for being a blackcel by bringing up how Michael Jackson has cultural impact or something. He also samefags his own posts 50+ times as a regular modus operandi to psyop people and astroturf an opinion

JRPGs are only good when the developers are aware that the gameplay is a simplified version of tabletop RPGS and thus throw in their own mix and shit into it. If you play a JRPG for the story or the characters I have to assume you're legit autistic.

wrpgs don't have good stories aside from something like planescape torment. They just have better prose, but 99% of them are just bargain bin pulp sword and sorcery stories
>>
>>750796313
You're right but I'll take a shitty narrative sandbox to roleplay in rather than a narrative straight forward line.

JRPGs are for people who can't picture an apple in their head, Western RPGs are for white men teeming with Faustian spirit.

WRPGs are just a poor attempt at replicating the table top experience.

in fact that much hate shoulda made you play it
>>
i prefer an intentional and focused experience desu.
the west over-values variance and most of the time "choice" is detrimental because you have to design for every possibility. So the less popular ones end up being at odds with the design.
>>
>>750796667
jrpg is for the asocial math and science autist who just wants to be left alone with his computer
wrpg is for the professional victim autist who screeches about society, traps himself in his own head, and believes trooning out will grant him the new identity he needs to finally be happy (it won't)
>>
>>750796951
>most of the time "choice" is detrimental
Bugman mindset
>>
>>750796951
exactly im so tired of choice-based games
not every game gonna be the witcher 3 with multiple endings/outcomes and even that game had endings where the narrator just tells you how your choices changed some things while a slideshow played

why do i have to pay for it? you have to pay me for if i'm making the asset
>>
>>750797119
focusing on words you deem heretical instead of understanding the greater point is actual bug behavior.
Choice itself isn't bad, but in most (W)RPGs it ends up being dead-weight and dead-content because either
1. Each new option blows up exponential outcomes which means development and effort is spread more thin across more content
2. You have to flatten the outcomes down to a handful so ultimately most choices didn't even matter
Choice is supposed to add value, but more often it just detracts value.

the immortal npcs and fixed quests are my number 1 issue, sometimes you just don't care and you just blast an npc because you didn't like him. I'm stuck playing crpgs for that reason.
I'm not asking to genocide the world, just give me some agency...
>>
>>750797192

Its literally about taste, You can like western, jrpg , like both

putting them against each other is incel thinking

You're still thinking like a bugman.

Player agency and systemic depth will always beat linear design in video games, and as technology progresses further, this will become undeniable. If JRPGs actually had good narratives, maybe you’d have a leg to stand on. But they don't, lol.

>>
>>750798631
>Player agency and systemic depth will always beat linear design in video games
agency exists in both, but "systemic depth" in practice just means "here's your sandbox, design your own fun", which isn't interesting or what video games should be.
>>
I just find turn-based combat to be excruciatingly simple and bad tbqhwyf
>>
>>750798631
That agency is meaningless in implementation though. The systems usually are way too general to be interesting. You can be creative with anything. If I wanted to be creative, I'd write a book, make a game, paint, etc, instead of playing with shallow choice systems and mechanics generalized to the point of insipidity.

Choosing what weapon you use in a scripted boss fight? I guess, but it's not on par with WRPGs.
>but "systemic depth" in practice just means "here's your sandbox, design your own fun", which isn't interesting or what video games should be.
This is the exact type of narrow minded shit only a bugman could think of. Faggots with your mindset are what's holding back gaming.

Seriously, how mindbroken do you have to be to start complaining about player choice, lol.

anon you don't even understand that you haven't supplied an argument to begin with, nor challenged anything i've brought up.
You're just equating choice and freedom with inherent / self-evident value which is NOT true.

It's the truth. JRPGs and Snoy movie games are cut from the exact same cloth. Same goes for their fans.

I just can't take you seriously when you're this adamantly wrong and refuse to stake out a real position beyond "player choice is le bad"

And you haven't proven a single thing I've said wrong, you're just plugging your ears and screaming nonsensically because this discussion requires a level of critical thinking that you completely lack. I'm not gonna argue with someone acting like a retarded manchild.
