I generally do, but he invited me to play and I had just booted up the game after so many years. Not sure why he'd invite someone to play just to dunk on them. I didn't care for it back in the day either, I just didn't imagine people were still doing it now that everything is basically free and instant to unlock. There's no need to cheat.

I need to get back into this and finally beat the 9 hole challenge. I would have got it on my first try but had terrible luck on one hole with a triple bogey.
This game with multiplayer would be amazing.

The overall challenge and interest level of any golf game can be tweaked just by making different courses. You fundamentally can't do this in any other sports game. What makes something like Neo Turf Masters so enduring is that despite being mechanically simple compared to something like Mario Golf, the holes would be fun to approach in any golf game due to their interesting (sometimes brutal, especially in the back nine of each course) layouts.
>>
I hate how Golf Club is basically the only "serious" simulator that doesn't require an internet connection, always-online status, DRMs, but it has one fatal flaw:
>there's no UI indicator during the shot

For some reason, the devs thought a UI would make the game too arcade-like, so they decided you can't have any kind of fucking indicator at all. The problem: unlike in real life, you don't have a fucking club in your hand, so it's impossible to judge the force of your shots, for example, when putting.
So the solution players have come up with is to keep an eye on details like the distance between the club and the character's boot, and other things that end up functioning as a UI anyway, but a totally bad and inaccurate one.
That ruined the game for me.

>You fundamentally can't do this in any other sports game
Though I'll make an addendum/asterisk here since I wasn't considering EXTREME sports in this discussion, just traditional ball sports. Extreme sports titles live and die on course design in much the same way; Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1/2 are still fun to play today even with their inferior mechanics compared to 3 and beyond by virtue of the level design being so strong.
>>
>>750820328
No game does the feeling of landing a hole in one better than this give or take Neo Turf Masters, if only because the latter you're saving money by playing out of your mind.
>Land a nightmare shot that bounces off a fucking tower and the landing spins into the hole
>That shower of pangs and the special pop off animation
Fucking kino I'm glad the pserv is still a thing
>>
>>750826752
I'm hoping someone makes an offline server like we see with other MMOs. Pservers won't last forever and we need a way to preserve Pangya.
>>
>>750825992
To me, they're fun because they involve meaningful decisions.
Basically:
>you analyze the course
>you consider different possible shots, taking general conditions (like wind), clubs, terrain, etc., into account
>you look for a balance between risk and reward
>you try to be precise to execute the best possible shot

It's simple because, at most, you only need to think two shots ahead. There's nothing too complex to consider. There's no pressure on you at all. Just relax, make good decisions, be precise in your execution, and then reap the rewards.
>>
>>750825992
I only like ones that take place on somewhat realistic courses, it's like I'm really in nature
>>
Need a golf course simulator that's basically a modern version of SimGolf where you can create golf courses with a proper terrain editor and then play on them yourself while managing the golf course.

Pangya was a Playboy bundled CD golf game not a PSP game. Back when JAV started to pick off outside the Japan, Playboy just threw Pangya installer on the CD with the magazine.

Toss up between 2004 and 2005. The putting in both is terrible and gives you very little to work with as far as understanding the green. The real trouble is that all RPGolf and RPGolf adjacent games start off like dogshit (can't hit for shit, no ball control), are fun for a short while when your stats are sufficient to birdie most holes, and become dogshit again after you're bombing 350+ yards every drive and ceasing entirely to actually play golf.
>>
>>750839556
2004 or 2005, or 2012 on the Wii. on a mechanical level the PS2 games are all pretty much the same from 2004 onwards, the only thing that changes are the courses. 2004 has the better course list, 2005 has different seasons and times of day. 2012 on the Wii is the best implementation of motion controls ever put into a game.
>>
>>750839556
2004 and 2005 are the best if you like arcadey gameplay. 2012 and 2014 are good if you want something more challenging and realistic
>>
The wii port was actually alright
