No wonder Tim Sweeney is always seething over Valve.

THE FUTURE IS NOW, LUDDITE! AI IS CREATIVE
>>
>>750877645
Why would he seethe over Valve for this? Valve uses AI, Gabe supports AI, there's no filtering out AI projects and you don't have to mention AI usage if it's for coding.

AI is here to stay. No one's going to go back to writing everything by hand anymore, AI assisted coding isn't even the future, it's the present.

Tell me honestly anon, do you believe that businesses will simply stop using AI? You think they won't use a locally hosted in house AI?
Worst case scenario is that it won't be writing entire systems, tests and projects but will still be used for busywork.

If the AI bubble pops, your quality of life will drop overnight, so will mine. Has that happened? No, so it's a nothing burger until your money has been inflated into nothingness and you and I are struggling so much we can't afford to post on 4chan.
>>
>>750877645
Is Tim retarded? Multiple of his staff are against this. They are going to leave and make their own engine if this continues. Removing legacy features also is fucking insane to do considering many people in the industry worked using them for years. It's literally fucking over developers over
By the way, NOTHING is actually stopping developers to just keep using the previous version too. Some are already doing this, even AAA. I suspect this will be a lot more common in the future.
>>
AI is useless.

Can't decomp.

>>
>>750878020
No I don't know anything about him.
Steams official policy is that you only need to disclose AI usage in assets for the final game. Temporary palceholders during development and AI generated code in the final product can be used without having to disclose it.
Per Steams policy.

>>750878025
Yeah I know he's a faggot but it's not related to UE6 unless UE6 is going to AI generate assets to.
UE6 AI generating code isn't anything for him to bitch about because Steam allows it.
>>
>>750878080
>Is Tim retarded?
Sure looks like it if you observe his behavior over the last several years. Pretty sure he's got AI psychosis now too, it's only getting worse.
>>
>>750878112
UE6 isn't just adding a new feature though, look at what was announced, it's literally built to make regular coding more complicated and literally erasing all of the blueprint feature, all to push this AIcrap
At this point I'm starting to believe Tim did some partnership with a company behind the scene and it's why he's pushing this. Either this or he really want to be part of the silicon valley "elites";
This new version of the engine literally makes making game more complicated for existing developers. It's targeted at people who never were going to make games before. It's the engine equivalent to replace the iconic main character with some annoying girlboss to "hit a new audience".
>>
>>750877956
Eh. All an "AI bubble" means is that there won't be a bunch of smaller companies running try to compete with OpenAI, Anthropic and such. It'll be like the dot.com thing where all the "bursting" does is consolidate everything to the ones already in the lead. The idea of it meaning that AI disappears is the most idiotic take you can have.

>>
>>750878243
Ah, so you read the OP but don't actually know what UE6 changes?

The change is away from blueprints and visual scripting completely. It's going to be entirely code based that compiled which very surprisingly means the visual scripting/blueprints which is no longer supported doesn't actually work anymore.

>more complicated for existing developers
No it makes it more complicated for UE5 "game designers" that can't code and are losing the guard rails that enabled them to produce slop.

The swap is purely because AI interfaces with coding easier because visual scripting is a niche gimmick in the real world. If AI could do visual scripting as cheaply and efficiently as it can coding, they'd never abandon the guard rails.
>>
>>750878447
You are fucking stupid, blueprint was used since before 5 and it also became industry standard everywhere. There's a shitload of developers, including veteran, who now does most things using it. There's literal games made almost only using it including very successful ones, and many new hires also focus on using it. Removing a beloved feature to push something most people don't want is utter bullshit.
You know nothing about the video game industry you pretender.
>>
>>750878580

>Unreal Tournament (UE4 reboot/UT4) was the ninth installment of the Unreal series and fifth installment of the Unreal Tournament series. It was under development for Microsoft Windows, OS X, and Linux. It was meant to be the first main entry in the series since 2007's Unreal Tournament 3, being developed by Epic Games with contribution of the community. On December 14, 2022, during Epic Games announcement of the shutdown of all their online services in order to concentrate everything on Epic's own Epic Online Services, it was revealed that this game would be rendered inaccessible starting from January 24, 2023. Since then, the game survives via the fan project UT4UU.

>Nuking C++, actors and blueprints

Genuinely why?
For all of UE5's hiccups and problems the blueprint and actor system were genuinely a great way for entry to mid level programing knowledge people to make games and visually see what the fuck was going on.

Why not just keep those systems AND add your AI horseshit to complement each other?

Unpopular opinion: progress stalled because what was there wasn't all the good in the first place. UT3 was just awful (hoverboards). And based too much of what they were doing on UT2k4. Also a janked mess.
>>
>>750881325
God, I had forgotten about the hoverboards. I remember pirating UT3, playing 15 minutes of it, getting disgusted by the roided out models and the game's feel, and going back to u2k4 to frag egyptian and bdsm whores.
>>
>>750877645
Gaben supports AI too retard.
>>
>>750881325
>>750882012
Retard. Hoverboards were great for Warfare, and they were only there and in VCTF. Why? Because mobility. Slow-ass movement and traversal where the few things that made 2k4's Onslaught a drag. So they fixed that with hoverboards, and that added an extra gameplay mechanic, which was great.

>by the roided out models
Yes, that was a genuine issue with 3 - too much baggage from Gears of War. And it was not just roided models - some UI elements and shaders too.
>and the game's feel
That was indeed engine's issue AND Gears of War shaders and art-direction. It made the game feel a bit claustrophobic and compressed.
>>
>>750881171
>Why not just keep those systems AND add your AI horseshit to complement each other?

Because you don’t burn any tokens when using C++ or Blueprints.
If you train your future developers to work within your engine solely through AI only, you may end up making them hostage, when you rise the costs of using AI in the future
>>
>>750877645
I already assume everything made in UE5 is low effort AI slop with some asset store slop sprinkled on top.

>you're upset that not only is UE pivoting back to code,
Blueprint is just another new optional interface. Toon Boom has 3 interfaces you can choose from, traditional animation Xsheet, Photoshop-style layers or Network modules which is the same as the Blueprints in UE. The benefit of the interface is simply you being able to visually see hierarchies between layers and effects better. The ones below are subservient to ones above.

graphics API's kept getting more and more needlessly complex.
the golden age was at the height of directx 7-9, piss easy to develop for with basic code.

now you need 700 lines of boilerplate to get one triangle on screen and a phd in computer science to even begin to attempt to optimize for it instead of just letting the driver handle the hard stuff.

they kept saying libraries would appear to replace the old high level functionality, but it never happened.

>>
>>750894636
Once upon a time it was just a cost-cutting measure, so developers could skip right to the game part for quicker turnaround (and not have to specifically hire engine programmers). But then it turned into a trend, which became the standard, then the AAA started scaling up, so UE was easier to learn than a company's specific C++ codebase.

Its just layer upon layer of requirements, starting from scratch and you have to get modern level lighting, shaders, animation rigging. Its just stupid to try building it yourself even with AI assistance its really impractical unless you're doing a retro game with PS1 level graphics for fun.

You're confusing concepts.
Vulkan/DX12 are just explicit APIs which cause the verbosity or the "1000 lines for a triangle"(which is a meme in itself). But by default, naive programs in them will be faster than naive opengl.
And Vulkan exists because AAA developers were reaching the ceiling of what you could do with OpenGL. It's why Vulkan isn't the same blackbox that handles everything for you like opengl.
It's a graphics API with a purpose.
>>
>>750877645
Nothing wrong with AI assistance. Letting the AI do all the work without anyone reviewing it is the only real problem
>>
>>750893354
Google said their AI answer thing was causing them to lose money just last week. Their plan is to spam even more ads in hopes of subsidizing the AI generated losses but there's no telling if that will work or for how long.
>>
>>750896032
Agreed. So where is the part about UE6 being built around AI?
>>
>>750896106
All AAA games where you can choose between DX11 and Vulkan, DX11 runs way faster. Even AAA's can't make proper use of it. The only game on Vulkan that actually ran well was Doom 2016.

>But by default, naive programs in them will be faster than naive opengl.
That's just a lie. Low level API's can't even be programmed naively in the first place.

The extreme complexity for basic implementations is a massive barrier to indies developing their own tech. Indies made their own (impressive) engines left right and center when XNA was supported, now they all use unreal.

Low level API's are just corporate ladder pulling, nothing more.
