I dunno i have the same problem honestly
I have a ton of games in my backlog and playing them feels like a chore honestly i constantly second guess myself if i picked the right one and whether i should play something else or whatever
I just push through until the ene and that's that but sometimes i play a game that's genuinely capricat and i can't stop thinking about it
The last game i played that mase me fell this way was coffin but there where others like FE Awakening and Kingmaker
usually i fell like this whenever i play something brand new i never played before i never played a tsctics rpg before Awakening and its one of my favourite FE games now same with Kingmaker and how it was my first crpg
i guess you should try something brand new and see how you like it

the hype and anticipation is the best part, actually playing games is a let down

I take psychiatric meds and enjoy vidya
>>
>>750888358
If its the only thing you do it feels like shit, you need to do something else also so then when you have some freetime it feels fresh. job, school, whatever the fuck, just something else
>>
Don't focus on politics

Get fallout 4 and install the "Fallen world" modlist

are you an adult? there’s nothing you can do then. video games are for children. go do adult things and you shall have fun

Don't play anything past PS1/N64.
>>
>>750888358
You have to at least be content with your life to enjoy vidya. Purely anecdotal but when my real life is in chaos or I just have so many responsibilities piling up that I haven't dealt with, I can't have fun with vidya.

I take a few weeks or a month to get shit done, suffer as much as needed and when my house is in order and I'm not crumbling under the anxiety of my responsibilities I go back to my vidya happy as can be

have you tried playing fun games instead of the modern garbage slop we are getting?
>>
>>750888358
Play online games and start immediately having a melt down the second things go beyond your expectations in every situation.
>>
>>750888436
Even weed is boring now, I have no more cheap socially acceptable dopamine crutches. I think I might have to take a week where I just stare at the wall to reset my brain
>>
>>750888358
I noticed that people who claim games are boring or a chore usually try to complete all the slop that comes out, every sword game available. Picking a new game up is a challenging to some extent and doing that over and over will only lead to a burnout. Instead, get good at some multiplayer genre to the point farming timmies becomes effortless. You only pick up a different game from the same genre as your main game dies. You won't need to learn all the mechanics from zero ever again.
>>
>>750889873
I fucking loved the coffin. I played every update when each one released in one sitting. It was just that good. I wish I could get that invested in other games.
>>
>>750888358

Gaming was abysmal for me when I went to school and all my friends, classmates and the other bitches were in my ear telling me playing games sucks. So I would go out. I would follow the trends. I would sell ass on instagram for a crumb of pussy. Then the pussy came and went. Friends came and went. After a while I realised just how nice it is to come back home, get some nice food on my table, put my legs up on the desk, and just chill. I play anything that seems fun.
>I burn out and feel like playing something else?
Good. I'll just reinstall the game later. I've got an entire lifetime of playing whatever games I feel like in the moment. And I don't give a singular shit what anyone says. To get lost in the worlds of the games I play. It is a simple, yet beautiful life.
>>
>>750888358
things are good because others are bad; a hot shower is the best when you've had a shitty miserable cold day
its confusing to hear but you need to go irl and have a mildly shitty life or conversely, have friends to contextualize what you see or share your joy/dislike of games

>>750897146

>>
>>750888358
Play actually good games, like Battletoad.
>>
>>750888358
you have to stop trying. you need to face up to the fact that you are growing out of gaming and thats okay.

>have friends to contextualize what you see or share your joy/dislike of games
This is often overlooked, but I tend to get more out of games, anime, movies etc. if I discuss them with others.

Buying into hype is such a strange concept for an adult unless you literally have the mind of a dumb child.
>>
>>750898004
its a cool/strange psychological effect, when you talk about things with out people its like you contextualize them or you seamlessly become invested into abstract ideas like movies or games
i think thats what people like about politics (rather than the politics), they get to be incensed with other people

Do not watch or read any reviews or opinions of the retarded internet "influencers" or even worse "game journalists". Steer clear of review aggregating sites - if something is liked by majority then it is probably perfectly average.

Watch a trailer, check out a few screenshots, then play it if it is something you find cool. Don't give a shit about "gaming" culture, play what you want and have fun, maybe a blast even, who knows.

Years later and I'm still perplexed, I wasn't doing nothing out of the ordinary and the gameplay wasn't any different from the other hundreds of hours I've played that game. It was really weird kek.
Still waiting to feel that child-like joy again.
>>
>>750888358
only good games can fix you, and only while they last. I felt like a child full of energy and hope play Ace Combat 8 for instance. But now... back to the existential dread.
>>
>>750888358
You guys had fun playing video games? Here I am playing games because they're a pleasant enough way to pass the time. Or because I'm curious about what's in the game. Or because it's a personal challenge I want to complete. If I wanted to have fun, the last thing I'd do is sit in front of a fucking rectangle with a controller in my hand.

Pick up another hobby and take a break from vidya for awhile

And don't play something just because it's the "new thing" or everyone is playing it. Play whatever you're in the mood for regardless of what other think of it

That helped me enjoy vidya again

That's a pretty good tactic. If somebody told me that I couldn't play vidya I would probably immediately wish to play vidya again.
>>
I found that if I rotate between game genres I end up enjoying them a lot more. And I also tend to not grind out games as much as I use to and just play through at a moderate pace.
Since finishing FFRes I probably won't touch another turn based rpg for a good few months at minimum.

Definitely depends on the type of game you're playing. Casual games with no story has a second monitor running. Any story based games is total focus with no distractions
