Hot Pursuit (2010), if we don't count the 2020 remaster. My brother and I loved NFS3 as kids. It unironically inspired him to become a cop.It was fun playing NFS 2010 together, the same year he officially became a cop. We were both unstoppable in the interceptor (1v1, racer vs cop) game mode. Literally the only person I ever lost to was him. Weirdly enough he was just as good at escaping as the racer as he was chasing as the cop. Pic related was his preferred choice when playing in sports-tier, of course.

>>750901391Midnight Club 3 has THREE cities, four in Remix, and has the Rockstar/Midtown Madness quality of city design that's crafted to be more like a driving playground. That alone destroys UG2's sole gimmick already. Midnight Club's faster sense of speed is a cherry on top. Compare their highway traffic density to Underground 2's highways that only have like 1 or 2 traffic cars visible at any point. The NFS franchise was always intriguing for me. One thing that I haven't really seen be done the way it was in MW05 and Carbon is the blacklist/boss car liveries. It almost feel like taking masterful, unique character design and then slapping that same doctrine onto car liveries to make them unique and memorable, sometimes even giving them a certain 'vibe' or 'personality'.The franchise as a whole was always refreshing because they were always trying to do something different with each game.>>750898519URLs won. >>750905620>because they genuinely drive awfuli know that in shift 1 the oscillations get crazy when you drive over multiple bumps in a row and after a few seconds the front suspension feels like it's being jacked up by hydraulics like a pimp my ride scene or something but it doesn't happen too often, i think it only happens on certain bumpy tracks or when you take sharp curbs too aggressivelyshift 2 doesn't seem to have that problem, at least not to the same extent that i've encounteredother than that, the driving model feels fine but i haven't gotten to the GT1/GT3 in shift 2 just yet
>>750905495yeah its the only way I play carbon now.
>>750897694>>750900094UG2 feels like like a mod.It lacks structure that UG1 and MW had.I understand why people have it as their favorite, but as many have said in the thread, on replay it really feels like a slog.Worst of all, and this is something that could actually be fixed by all these recomps (but probably won't) is the car list was very lackluster in UG2, but it also goes for most NFS games. It would be nice to get UG1, UG2 and MW with fully fleshed out carlists that are fully functional, also used by the NPCs and aren't weird work arounds that have to replace existing cars.In this same vein, I would love a High Stakes decomp that removes the 50 car limit, fixes crashing because of too many high poly cars and also fixes the track list so that new tracks can be added without having to replace old ones. This is the shit that decomps promise but I feel no one will pick up and do actual game changing stuff like this.
>>750905720>I know plenty, it's really odd how much of a rabbit hole that game is when it comes to what was originally planned. I don't think any other NFS game is quite like that as far as I know. Besides maybe MW2012, but that one is just downright insulting.what was carbon supposed to be like originally?
NFS got a lot of handheld games during its peak period, Carbon Own the City is the most interesting one because it had a completely different story with quite a big twist and reused the map from Most Wanted.Underground Rivals was also kinda fun although repetitive but the other PSP games were quite boring, especially Most Wanted 510 which was notoriously rushed and not fun to play at all with repetitive tracks, insane rubber banding and annoying cops. The DS and GBA games are kinda cool if you are interested in seeing demakes of console games, but most other people won't find much enjoyment in them, just avoid the awful DS version of Most Wanted. There was also the weird 3DS version of The Run with a different story that got ported to the Wii and I think the Vita version of Most Wanted 2012 is almost the same as on consoles.
>>750905575If you want to be a closed circuit racist there are better options. Shift 1 & 2 are just games made for a market that was segmenting heavily at the time and did not stand out enough for either side to care about.
>>750904634>>750905575Because there is no reason to play these games over Project Cars, TOCA or Grid
So the franchise is basically dead now?Is there a current developer who could make a good NFS game?

>>750906002TOCA and grid are great but you can't customize your cars in any of those gamesyou can in shift AND it's got one of the neatest customization features ever: stripping out your interior and making it more suitable for racingyou start off with simple stuff like replacing the door panels, etc. with carbon versions, replacing the wheel with a racing wheel, until it gets more serious like adding switch panels, data loggers, a roll cage, etc. and all of this is in addition to all the visual and performance customizationit often times has that track day feel that people praise prostreet for

>>750906552High stakes is just 3 but better
>>750906153i've seen a few of those videos where they talk about the development of the NFS games and there's just so much stuff that went to waste, like cut content. i have no idea why they didn't try to lean their production process somehow so that they wouldn't create as much unused content so that they could save time and resources. maybe they just didn't know how or didn't want to? it's a headscratcher
>>750897694I like UG1 but mostly because I actually lowk like how the rubberbanding makes the game feel like a car combat game where you constantly have to block your opponents from getting the lead. I mean the moment they get the lead it's real hard to get past them because it's almost like they have invisible speed boost lines that you do not have. It made the game feel more active in my opinion. I also like how you can just trade in any car you want so you can just play with a different car each race to make it more interesting.>>750905929I made it sound more complicated than it really is, it's actually pretty simple. They were simply more ambitious. The city was supposed to look quite different. More crews that were cut, LeSamurai being the most notorious one, Some stuff they clearly built up to like the Yellow Lambo, Red Evo and the Challenger that seemed to be important yet don't really appear anywhere in the actual game. Promotional material shows a cut canyon that you could actually play on Flashpoint right now if you look for it. It shows a very different skyline of what is supposed to be Palmont. The canyons were supposed to be connected to the city as well I think but I'm not quite sure on that one. I'm also willing to bet they might have had more planned for police pursuits because they play absolutely no role in the career mode, yet they do in the challenge series. The rabbit hole part for me is how much stuff is left in the games, promotional material, and the betas for people to be able to piece this together. Stuff like San Juan, or the city skyline in Lookout Point for example. Otherwise it's pretty simple, they were either just more ambitious or locked in on concepts far too long in development that they eventually dropped, causing them to rush a few things.
>>750906732It's even more confusing because Hot Pursuit 2 had a different version on PS2 from other consoles and PC

>>750907016i know; i'm saying that since they were making games annually, it would have been prudent to create a more efficient production pipeline so that they could make the games smoothly and punctually instead of what they actually did, which was to crunch most of the time
>>750906915I forgot to mention, that image is an example of promotional material that points towards dropped concepts in the development of the game.>>750906357It's so sad that Undercover was so bad that the PS2/Wii version that reuses assets is somehow the better version.I still wonder what the fuck they were thinking with that game. >>750916848so TDU has 3 versions, the PC/xbox version, PS2 and PSPthe PS2 version was developed by a separate company and strips back the graphical aspects a lot, but actually has more races and tournaments because it adds 'clubs' of 1v1 races and limited car type (coupes only, imports only, one-make clubs, cars with stripes, vintage race cars, etc) which in the 'proper' version of TDU are player-driven, online-only features and thus completely missing if you try to play now. it's missing some of the custom stuff and the cool dealer-car-buying experience but adds its own new soundtrack alongside the existing stuff and it's ALL awesome nfs3/SR2 style trance and house, shit's bitchinthe PSP version is just the PS2 version with lower draw distance, no driver avatar and no interior cam. framerate is iffy but 60fps MOSTLY works with a patch. both the PS versions still include the entire oahu island, they didn't cut any roads or reduce the scale, which alone makes it pretty noteworthy in my book

i dig Heat. the criticisms ITT are valid ("modern" feel to the driving that is sort of a bastard mix of arcade and sim that doesnt feel as good as older games, lots of YO WADDAP PLAYA brownoid shit, retarded driver models and useless driver customization options like hats and shoes) but it has a nice mix of ricers and luxury/super cars and decent customization. i mostly like the gameplay loop though, doing sanctioned races during the day to earn money, then illegal street races at night to outrun the cops and earn reputation was a nice choice. also, the logo is awesome and i like the tropical neon motif

>>750894754It's absolutely great, but get a modpack, vanilla has some weird delay on the steering and a few other minor bugs.
>>750918619I got heat for free and I only played for 23 minutes, maybe I'll reinstall
>>750905942I remember the PS2 version of NFS Undercover being different from the Xbox 360/PS3/PC version
>>750892738>What was the last good NFS game?Pro Street.
>>750918350High Stakes makes more sense since betting your car against your opponent was the big gimmick of the game.I also don't understand why they never did this anymore, it makes even more sense to bet cars in the underground series since that happened a lot on the F&F movies.
>>750920675>High Stakes makes more sense since betting your car against your opponent was the big gimmick of the game.It barely features in the game at all. The majority of the game is traditional tournament races and special cups.
>>750920504I see you are a man of refined taste.
>>750918690>>750919017i put about 20 hours into it before i got bored. didnt beat it or anything but i was having fun gaining rep to unlock cars and parts then gaining money to purchase said unlocks. i am reinstalling right now actually, this thread has me in a racist mood
>>750918619Heat was an ok game just to enjoy all the cars. It's a shame they lost the Toyota license after 2015. Unbound somehow felt like a downgrade, and facing the same handful of racers every race got repetitive.
>>750918619>retarded driver models and useless driver customization options like hats and shoeswhat is your problem with hats and shoes
>>750921087women don't need them and men shouldn't wear them
>>750921130you mean women don't need shoes, so we can see feet
>>750899171I finished this last month and jesus fuck it was a fucking drag. The NPC catch-up logic is so incredibly shitty and annoying.
>>750894126nice lol
Unbound unironically has a fuckton of good ideas that could move the genre aheadShame about the you knowDriving in a driving gameAnd the generic nog VA's with the shitty story but that's secondary
>>750923023There is an upcoming game called clutch that was making all the right noises riiiiiiiiiiight until it revealed it has a story that looks just like the sort of shit heat or unbond would have and my day was ruined.
>>750923023>>750923138>We are LE VICTIMS and the police are corrupt>Also we do property damage, break speed laws and do ilegal racingIt says a lot people says most wanted story is the best one for racing games on the fact it never bothers with this kind of shit and makes it you are a criminal fucking other criminals
>>750923398> most wanted story is the best one for racing games No it is the best story in the need for speed franchise. The best racing game story is in split/second.
>>750923398The radio in unbound was fucking stupid about that but it turns out it was just the host's mommy issues. Heat went all in on cops bad but to be fair the antagonists were literally corrupt cops
>>750908858>picoh no, poor thing
>>750892738I enjoyed Heat but i was playing with a friend, often drunk, which helps with many games. This was my ride of choice.
>>750923810The nevada speed challenges in prostreet while drunk are some hair raising shit.
>>750923138Clutch had made it pretty clear it was going to be hollywood-esque so basically nu NFS
>>750906785>Would have liked less of that and more driving a Ferrari or Porsche through Tuscan or French villagesI agree. It's sad, a huge a waste, and also a head-scratcher, that after Porsche Unleashed the NFS franchise never again attempted to revisit the theme of racing super sportscars and hypercars through scenic European roads. Even after generational leaps in technology and graphics fidelity.
