Spider-Man is when you break him down to his core components a combination of both Superman and Batman. Peter has no bio parents like Clark and Bruce. Peter is a photographer at the Bugle, Clark is a reporter at the Daily Planet. Spider-Man has a scary bug as his nomenclature Batman has a scary Bat as his. Spider-Man wears bright red and blue pajamas just like Superman. Peter is super smart and a gadget based hero just like Batman. Spider-Mans villains are all combos of Superman and Batman villains for example Norman Osborne/Green Goblin is Lex and Joker combined. Spider-Man and Batman both have guilt driven motives and were both present at the death of their respective family members.

The big twist with Spider-Man is that he's not beloved by his city and constantly struggles with his down to earth personal life and lack of money, Spider-Man isn't an idealism like Superman and Batman he's an aspiration to be good in the face of your own shortcomings. There's a saying about DC and Marvel that goes "DC is gods trying to be human and Marvel is humans trying to be gods." I believe that holds true for Spider-Man.
