Black Friday is right around the corner. Time to upgrade my oldass TV so I finally cross the 60Hz threshold and get VRR. Any TCL owners? Specwise they sound fine especially for the price, but I'm a bit wary about their QC. Any experience with them? I don't want it to die after 2 years or suffer from DSE after a while. Models I'm considering
- TCL QM8L/C8L as a baseline
- Sony Bravia 7 II
- Sony Bravia 9 II (probably my ideal target, but too pricey, and I doubt Black Friday will help)
I read good things from anons about the Hisense TVs for gayman.
I'm not considering OLED because my current LCD TV is being used 12-15h a day everyday as a PC monitor. Maybe if there are still LG G5 left and they get a huge discount during BF so I don't feel bad ruining it in 3 years, but I guess the stock is dry now.

tcl is pretty much the price/performance lottery. you get a lot of TV for the money but QC is still a bit of a crapshoot. sony generally has better processing and consistency but whether that's worth paying nearly twice as much is another matter.
wouldn't worry too much about DSE developing over time, more about getting a shitty panel out of the box, buy somewhere with a decent return policy
personally i'd get the TCL if the BF discount is decent, bravia if you're lucky, not the 9 though

Unfortunately dumb TVs don't exist anymore. I didn't care much because I simply don't connect my TV to the internet, but godamn I fell out of my chair upon learning LG manage to connect to open Wifi and still send data. What in the fuck.
But nothing connecting it to a pi-hole leading to absolutely nowhere wouldn't solve. Surely they don't have TWO wifi chips, do they?

Not worth buying displays until actual microLED becomes a thing and not that garbage chink memetech in your pic.

1080p60 is enough for anyone. any more than that is just digital foundry tier jerking off to hardware specs
even microsoft and sony know this which is why the 4k modes on their consoles are an unplayable meme that torpedos performance and is only good for marketing screenshots. because they are an afterthought

I got the M8L Pro from Costco since it was 250$ off, and didnt want to spend 2k on a TV. It's not the QM8L, but the reviews are pretty good.
880$ for a 65" with taxes.

Didnt want to go with Hisense again after getting burned with my 5 yo Hisense that has a bad memory chip.

When are they gonna learn. And the incoming inflation sure won't help microLEDS next year, if they ever come out next year at consumer price (they won't)

Still using my CRT TV.

Samsung was also doing this on their TVs but just didn't tell anyone btw

1440p is objectively the superior option

I don't care. I really don't.

>Specwise
Manufacturer quotes specs are all made up. They are complete bullshit.
There is no standardisation to the methodology of house they measure the specs so they are free to make anything up.

You need to read third party reviews to get accurate specs.

Only if the screen is a plasma.

1080p60 on a plasma is brighter and clearer than 240hz lcd/oled because there is absolutely zero motion blur.

I have a 55" TCL QM751G, one of their models from 2024. Bought it because it had VRR and 120hz at a cheap price of $500 or so. I was underwhelmed by the display at first but after some firmware updates I got from avsforums and calibrating it, games look great on it. Movies look ok, but lower resolution stuff looks like shit on it, i'm talking lower than 1080p stuff.

I'm happy with it after a bit more than two years or so in of owning it. Haven't had any defects or problems so far either. I'm sure their higher grade models are even better, I just wanted 120hz and VRR and backlit HDR at the cheapest I could.
