XII development cycle was unusually long for a FF at the time and the company was shifting from a focus on prioritizing creative work to a business focus. Ito had directed FF IX (albeit Sakaguchi had made the concepts and writing) and was trusted because he was the most knowledgeable about gameplay mechanics and was known to be able to fix and patch things. Minagawa on the other hand knew his art design and concepting. Basically they both did what they knew how to do best but with Sakaguchi, Mitsuno and half the senior staff gone there was no real unified creative vision or direction which is why once you reach the mid game all you have is a bunch of optional dungeons, summons and hunts but no real story/ adventure. XII will forever be wasted potential. Could have been a great FF but it´s not. It´s just not.

The most annoying part was every two steps you'd just get a random status ailment from either the enemies or a random ass trap. Plus, the game just plays itself.
