I wonder how whoever was responsible for CDPR's decision to switch from REDengine to Unreal is feeling right now
>>
>>750909294
I'm a gamer not a dev, why does it matter that ue5 features are being removed and how do they compare with ue6 features? Make no mistakes
>>
dont care ue is baed and only nerds know what any of these means
>>
>>750909521
OP doesn't understand what's being removed or is doing it on purpose to get more (You)s in 4chan of all places. C++ is staying. What they're removing is the gameplay framework, basically they're removing the ancient Actor/Actor Component framework and replacing it with a modern Entity Component System that can also be worked on in C++.
>>
But will it stutter?
>>
AI is great and will make better games than humans ever did, and VASTLY better games than modern brown "humans"
>>
>>750909951
Also, based Timmy is saying that they're won't be working on tools so devs can migrate their projects from Actors/Components to Entities/Components and they'll be delegating the work to the virtual jeet instead. In truth, this will probably work better than a traditional migration tool, they only need to write a tool to make BPs more parseable by the virtual jeet (remove unnecesary metadata that could confuse it).
>>
>>750909951
They are removing blueprint though, which is not only industry standard but used so much there has being many games only using it, including big success too. There has being generation of developers taught on it, it's telling them "all you know? it's now worthless and you can only use our new, likely super mediocre, system."
Do they want every developers to just stay on the old version or even to switch engine? this is fucking EVERYONE only to attract a minority of people who probably won't do much.
This is the engine equivalent of killing the beloved protagonist to replace them with some annoying girlboss to "touch a new audience"
They are fucking insane to outright remove old features. Literally NO ONE is happy about this among developers.
>>
anyone complaining about this is not a programmer and doesn't understand what any of what he's saying really means
performative artists and trannies that realize that the gig's up, and your days are now numbered
>>
Here's the real elephant in the room : it will make using this engine completely impossible without internet or account. Removing developers the freedom to do so. It might also have some subscription related to it too, as it seem to be the goal of many corporations, to put everyone on monthly subscriptions.
>>
>>750910270
And thank fucking god they're removing it. It's only useful in helping us visualize the logic, it gets in the way in everything else.
>>
>>750910270
>blueprint
>industry standard
no
also
>blueprint in a world where 'claude make the character with the mustache jump up and say bingbing wahoo'
>>
>>750910270
blueprints is fucking terrible and shouldn't be used for anything other than prototyping
>>
>>750910513
I've seeing multiple pro developers being utterly pissed about this at saloons and events. This completely nuke the entire workflow of many teams if they update.
hell, literally some members of Epic are pissed. some even left to make their own engine.
Tim is sacrificing every good will built just so he can touch some techbros who don't actually care.
>>
>>750910513
What does this have to do with trannies?
>>
>>750910563
>>750910527
Literally the GOTY of last year was made almost only using Blueprint. there's multiple bigger games heavily using it. At this point either you are completely ignorant or you are paid to shill this shit because you sure as hell are no developers.
>>
>>750909294
i dont buy games made in UE
>>
>>750910270
Also, there are already a few projects to bring nodes back for verse, such as: https://github.com/LunarWorkshop/VerseVisualEditor

Just a fair warning, if a day comes where you move to UE6 and you have a few options for visual scripting in Verse, DON'T FUCKING CHOOSE THE OPTION THAT RELIES ON THE VERSE VM. It may be more powerful but it will fuck you in the long run, choose the option that converts visual scripting to verse text and viceversa. You have been warned.
>>
>>750910694
And? I never said it can't be used to make games. It's not as powerful or as flexible as text programming. You just need to adapt, the clock is ticking.
>>
This already is happening with other old versions, but I suspect many developers will just tell them to fuck off and will stay on 5.
>>
>>750910629
No, I'm friend with one of those 'pro developpers', the type of guy that gets 400+k yearly offers because he's an omega autist dev techwizard that's been in the industry for decades, and he's also anti AI and we have these discussions often (since I'm very pro AI), and this is all fake.
It's all bullshit. Every single one of them that hate AI: it's all ideological.
There's no logic behind it, there's no thinking, it's all performative and 'but think of the people'.

I don't care, nigger, people will die and that's just how it is, the industrial revolution caused a lot of problems, and we still wanted it to happen, this is the same just even bigger and even 'worse'.

>>750910694
I think you're too retarded to take seriously, because you clearly did not understand the meaning of my words.
Have a good day.
>>
>>750910270
I've seen artist use BPs in real life. They waste half of their time in rearranging and organizing the nodes.
>>
>>750910914
Real manmade code is better than everything. Blueprint, yes, but also the slop.
>>
If they were so proud of their features, why would they not let them co-exist with the old systems?
Because they know people would always return to the old system if given the choice.
That's everything with the people forcing shit like this, they don't want the old things to exist, they want everything to be replaced forever with their shit. even if it fuck everyone else than them.
>>
>>750910950
>my room mate's uncle's cousin's nephew works at nintendo
>>
>>750909294
Soon AI will be baked into every PC and console, so does it even matter if it’s baked into every engine as well? Only Nintendo would be hesitant with the Switch 3, but cave in time for the Switch 4.
>>
>>750909294
I don't know most of modern IA lingo and all, I really hope they mean python for the back office and tools and not python for the actual game codes and engine
>>
>>750911141
>you're not allowed to make shit up on the internet, only I can do it
Right, anyways, you lost.

>>
>>750910993
Meh, I have seen nightmare code from engineers as well. Worst thing I saw was an inventory system that handled thousands of objects and didn't use TMap for the lookups. When I asked the engineer he said he didn't know TMap/TDictionaries were a thing and he used Arrays for everything.
>>
Isn't UE6 meant to be the version to get rid of the main thread dependency for better multithread scaling?
>>
>>750911125
Sometimes you need to force changes or their engine will still use ancient legacy code that wasn't that well designed. Actors are not well designed, the fact that you have to use different systems for different problems already speaks highly of the issue. Want to make UI? Well you can't use Actors, use UWidget instead. Want to make AI? Well, use Tasks. Want to make animation. Nope, Actors are too heavy, use AnimInstance instead.

The new ECS framework will work with everything, at least that's the promise. So you only need to learn 1 thing and you can work with everything the engine supports.
>>
Th3y simply won't use ue6, retard.
>>
>>750911634
But this also force people to unlearn a lot of what they learned, On some levels it's almost starting over, which is terrible for ongoing project and the workflows of developers and teams. unless they decide to stay on 5. Which I suspect many will (especially in Japan as they do not like breaking their workflows and starting things over)
>>
>>750911841
It is ALWAYS better to stay on old broken systems in the software world because teaching people costs more than the man hours they spend unfucking the problems.

that actually sounds like a good change. The current C++ actor/component system is fucking schizophrenic.

>>750910270

"If you don't support the theft of your own labor you will have a recession!"

As if we didn't need any more reasons to not continue to support the tech oligarchy. They held the world economy hostage and expect us to continue to support their bubble. Their bubble they created because they wanted to solve the problem of paying human workers.

We need to support billionaire tech companies exchanging fake money between each other for unlimited growth. It's on us because if we don't they will take all of us down with them.

The AI bubble is always close to collapse, there are articles every day. Is the alternative to just keep supporting it until it collapses later and the result is even worse for the rest of us?
>>
>>750909294
That doesn't mean c++ won't be usable you mouth breathing shit gargler.

Your ESL is showing, jeet.
then again given these mistakes (and always making the same ones, like some accent), I'm thinking you are more likely a slav instead.
>>
>>750913080

>>
>>750909294
oof, blueprints were already slow af, imagine ai blueprints lmfao
They really REALLY want to be another Roblox
>>
>>750912338
well said, but sadly, ai does work, and it doesn't even need the oligarchs to even stay around for it to work, fire up a local ai model and it'll work just the same. So the damage is done already and there's no way out.
I still hope they crash and burn soon but as usual they'll get bailed out and we're the ones who will pay for this crash. 2008 will looks like a joke in comparison. But yet at least I can port console games to PCs...

Genuine question, does anyone have a copy of Unreal Engine 3?
I mean, both Arkham Knight and Mirror's Edge were made on it and they're pretty much the best looking games without going into vista-faggotry like RDR so we might as well stop at UE3.
>>
>>750915337
or use AMD gpus. That said you'd still get hit by traversal stutters when hitting loading boundaries though wasn't the whole push (possibly in later versions of UE5) to move to a more cell like setup in the same spirit that gamebryo operates to eliminate that?
>>
>>750909294
>the are literally making a new coding language just for slop and removing the languages people actually know and can use across multiple game engines
>also removing blueprints which was basically trying to make it easy for humans to program visually, because AI can't into it
>>
as was expected. Will luddites still cope?
>>
UE is dead. The whole point of it is it had tools that everyone knew how to use. Now you can trivially vibe code any of those tools with the exact same UI/UX to any engine for the gamdev tards who cant learn anything else.
>MCP + Python
I am not sure what this means, but if it means they are adding Python because AI eats and shits in Python then it is stupid. If I want an AI to write something that I dont care about how long it takes, then the AI will crap something together that works in Python. If I care about performance or speed even remotely, then Python is terrible. No one is reading the code either way so Python has zero advantages over C++ or rust.
>>
>>750917284
Python eats up less tokens and AI makes less mistakes.

MCP means AI integration

>Now you can trivially vibe code any of those tools with the exact same UI/UX to any engine for the gamdev tards who cant learn anything else.
who the fuck is gonna spend time vibe coding tools when you can just use UE6 to make your game?
>>
>>750917460
>who the fuck is gonna spend time vibe coding tools when you can just use UE6 to make your game?
Spend time? It's like one hill-climbing prompt. Their MCP will probably work about as well as Jira's MCP: eat up half your context window, randomly trigger on unrelated tasks, and take minutes to do simple things. A bad and bloated MCP is worse than no MCP. Why would I want to use UE6 when I can just vibe code my own tools, tailor them to my exact workflow, and work much faster?
>>
>>750911509
Yeah that's one of goals
It will open up some possibilities that would be difficult in the current engine but it hardly solves the GPU bottleneck that most modern UE games suffer from.
>>
>>750910270
Any dev that uses exclusively BP is shit. Learn C++ like a white man or fuck off, jeets.

it doesn't matter, making a game in like 10... no 5 years will be completely different than it is this year or last year
>>
>>750919329
Is that 5 to 10 years just the dev cycle of a single game?
>>
>>750910270
>Literally NO ONE is happy about this among developers.
Name ten.
And no, indie hipsters don't count.
>>
>>750909294
I trust AI coders way more than I trust jeet coders these days
AI is based
>>
>>750919516
no, the technology
you can already get an okay game engine and an okay game in one single prompt. the game engines + games you will 1 shot in 5 or 10 years will be fucking retarded, let alone what you carefully make.
>>
>>750915931
>Arkham Knight
That game (and by extension it's predecessors Arkham Asylum and Arkham City) was made with a custom frankensteined fork of UE3 to get the results they wanted because the main branch was crap.
>>
>>750919812
A lot of UE3 games were modified heavily or utilized some third party alternative over what was built in.
Like Mirrors Edge which he mentioned used Autodesk Beast for the baked lighting.
>>
>>750919329
is this AI? It has too much soul to be AI.
>>
>>750909294
The only way I would be on board for UE6 is if it runs a lot better than UE5, and that's never happening.
>>
>>750909294
Wrong, C++ is staying for the underlying engine. Higher level components are what's getting replaced with their new language Verse (which kills blueprints, which is a good thing).
>>
>>750920758
I've seen that plot in multiple webcomics. memes, and doujins. AI or not is not original whatsoever at this point.
>>
>>750909294
DRAM and VRAM usage are gonna fucking skyrocket with the code bloat. My God it's so over.
