Was watching exodus long gameplay walkthrough and a new power was unlocked that allowed to petrify shit.Immediately knew the mechanic will not move past that level of complexity. Why don't games ask more of their players? Why don't devs ask more of themselves? Why can't they take an idea and build upon as much as they can?I remembered how crosscode seemingly simple combat mechanics turn into behemoths without ever introducing something "new". It is all there from the beginning and it encompasses all parts of the game: exploration, puzzles, combat and mixes them together as well. And older games used to do that. Is it just talent? Laziness? New devs are just not smart enough? Are the player's stupidity to blame?IN MY OPINION, some shit like crosscode should have won game of the year when it came out but I don't even remember which game won.

>>750914717Crosscode didn't do anything unique. It grafted Yoshi's Island egg throwing mechanics onto Sword of Mana top-down movement. That's it.
