The 6th game, in OP's pic, was suppose to be a return to glory as the series was well beloved in Japan during its time. Even the creator considers the series like his child and put a lot of love and care into the series. New Sega heads would in return fuck everything up for him with the most retarded choices, both story and gameplay. We're talking destroying your brand/trademark and then going "I never cared for the series so neither should fans" type thinking. Lots of development problems, lots of creator getting fucked in the end, just a complete disaster.The general gameplay for the older games is srpg+dating sim with mechs in the early 1900's. Very 90's anime if you watched a lot of those specially, romances, sol, harems, etc. In a way it was the original Persona 3-5 but for Sakura Wars, the dating sim elements are like 2/3 of the game with the srpg elements 1/3. There's no grinding or leveling in the srpg elements and battles only happens during or at the end of a chapter. The dating sim elements contributes to your characters stats so you want to talk to each of your girls when given the chance. Series probably isn't for everyone especially for today's gamers but it really was magical seeing how much love nips had for this franchise. It was nothing like how they act over gacha shit. Games were never localized and barely had internet and still people overseas saw how big Sakura Wars was over there.
