Its a really original take on 2d exploration. But I paid about 27,- for a japanese copy and I found that a fair price. 30 digital 40 physical would have been a good price.

Its 2026, a 2d platformer can be mind blowingly good, but you cant sell those for 60+ anymore

The problem is that they can't, the cartridge on launch cost 15$ to make, now it's probably around 25$, a physical release at less than 60 or 70$ would be unprofitable, and they dug their own grave with that shit, just fucking make 8gb cartridge, for God's sake...

Some of you have extremely skewed expectations about how much these games can realistically sell so early into the system's life cycle. You can't compare them to Switch 1's early heavy hitters from Nintendo's biggest franchises, these are all smaller IPs/spinoffs. Fortune's Weave's debut for instance is really strong.

But yeah honestly switch 2 is really showing that they're struggling to get anything out the door to their consumers. Like how do you sell nearly 30 million titles and have your most popular game not even reach a fifth of your potential client base?
But also I totally get it as someone with a switch 2. I mostly use it for better performance on my switch 1 library, and for whatever looks fun that's on sale in their e-shop at the time. The $70 price point was absolutely a mistake for this thing.

Star Fox selling 1.17 million in its first quarter is pretty good.
For the fifth remake in a niche series that has been dead for a decade, anyway.
Plus I doubt it had a big budget so it likely hit/is on track to hit Nintendo's goals for it.
Star Fox is back.

For comparison;
>Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave sold 1.34 million copies after 14 days on sale (these figures are only September)
versus
>Fire Emblem: Engage sold 1.61 million copies after 71 days on sale (With a much larger install base and immediate momentum from 3 Houses runaway success)
So if FW has even half the legs of Three Houses, (Japan physicals suggest it does) It's going to sell like double what Engage did in the same timespan.

I still dont get exactly what made Engage so toxic to consumers though.

Honest answer: Didnt play FE 3H cuz I didnt have a switch back then and when engage came out, the red/blue color scheme turned me off. Why didn't I play 3H afterwards though? I remember someone on 4chan saying you had to play all the characters story to completion several times. I couldnt do that again after the 3DS games. As someone who recently played engage for the first time aside from the story not being that good I thought the characters were fine, there are some that I really liked and even for characters that I didn't care about I was able to find some support conversations I liked. I think Crafted World was the straw that broke the camel's back for most people. The Switch 1 generation saw a number of games that were finally addressing major series grievances (in a lot of people's eyes at least), but here was Yoshi, staying the course and releasing yet another infant-tier babyslop despite that design philosophy being a known turn-off. The Switch 1 was a terrible generation to keep doubling down on shit that they knew people hated. I think any future Paper Mario games (if they even exist) are also fucked thanks to Origami King. It was already eye-opening how the long-requested TTYD remake sold underwhelmingly.

Also, massively backloading gameplay details to right before it released likely hurt it badly too. Yoshi was a series that REALLY needed its Switch 2 game to have more regular and spread out coverage between reveal and release, but it simply didn't get that, and (I'd argue) Mysterious Book is thus the poster child for why Nintendo needs to stop fucking doing this shit.

3D Mario, Zelda and Mario Kart right at the Switch 1s opening helped set the pace for the rest of the consoles life. It helps that all 3 were also generational all-timers too in terms of quality

It worked for me at least. I got the console because of Odyssey and from there I bought stuff like Ori on the eshop instead of Steam

I'm pretty sure Prime 4 would be included in the Switch 1 report, but that one is dominated by the usual evergreens. I'm pretty sure it reached its healthy million, but as the other anon said, it's better for everyone to forget that the game existed and just focus on Ravenous. If a Prime 5 ever happens, we can only hope that Bamco is not given another chance and if Retro once again takes the lead, that they get tardwrangled as much as possible.

People underestimate it a lot because everyone loves to think that breaking a million isn't a big deal at this point, but for a franchise like Star Fox, selling 1.17 million is insanely good for the series. Star Fox hasn't sold over a million copies since 2005 with Assault. I just hope they actually move forward with the series instead of this endless remake hell, and I want them to transition away from railshooters, because as much as people will argue, that is in fact a major factor holding the series back.

Nintendo did surveys like 15 years ago and got feedback that a lot of people played games for art music and relaxing and Yoshi has been that game since.
Crafted world is has mellow mode which is easy peasy. Regular mode which is moderate and then you can 100% it which is very very hard.

Mysterious book is like Yoshi story where you can play to credits without much effort but 100% is extremely difficult and not because there are 900 korok seeds but because the puzzle difficulty ramps up incredibly.

Mysterious book doesn’t have death or any tension though. It’s purely puzzle game
>>

I hate nu-Nintendo but games like Yoshi and Star Fox will continue to sell and sell and sell for the next 6 years as the console adds users. Smash ultimate still sells. It’s just part of the Nintendo’s strategy to make games that parents will buy their kids on any given day to keep them entertained. It’s a different market than seeking to 20+ adults who buy stuff on day one and then move on to the next thing.

Mario was platforming with a timer and deaths and power ups and going from a to B quickly.

Yoshi island was Nintendo trying to prove you don’t need graphics to make a good game and it’s a platformer that’s more about exploring and solving the maps puzzle.

Yoshi has become less about doing 2D Mario stuff and more and more about puzzle solving in a 2D world with fancy unique art.

It’s more niche but has a following and answers a need for Nintendo’s customers that don’t want to zoom past levels at high speed with the stressful element.

It’s also just too hard for a toddler despite people presuming the art is kid art so it’s child friendly.

Mario is much much more kid friendly because you just move and jump. Yoshi requires thinking about the environment and interacting with it in clever ways to advance. Kids just don’t understand that level of game until they’re older.
>>
This is some hilarious cope from FWfags. A majority of a games' sales are made during the post launch period. It's not going to suddenly shoot up rapidly in 2027. 3H was already breaking ceilings before it was even revealed to be in Smash. FW's ceiling has now been set around slightly higher than Engage at best. And that's pathetic when Engage had a lot of things going against it while FW had a lot of things going in favor of it.

It's not funny, it's cathartic. Here we have a completely corrupted videogame industry trying, and failing, to sell people movie games as the next evolution in gaming while firing thousands of employees so Mr. Generic Indian CEO can pocket more money. On the other hand, we have this 100+ year old toy company who has been able to fight the constant misinformation and hostility from western media by just releasing fun games while nurturing their IPs so people can find enjoyment in joining their ecosystem.

It's so fucking simple: Just develop fun videogames, there's always the opportunity of creating a plot about the endless circle of revenge or the perseverance of the human soul against the endless abyss as long as your videogame is FUN.
>>

Your Nintendo would have failed in by 2005.

>>751008234

Each stage has a default path that does the Mario odyssey type thing if giving the idea with not much else going on. So you’ll pop in the level and encounter the creature and then you can do the Yoshi stuff to it, eggs, tongue, stomp, put it on your back, jump on its back, ground pound etc. and this will show all the things it can do. And this rewards you with a ‘star’ yes. The it goes into a stage where you explore the map with it and interact with other creatures or objects usually in a first order way. Maybe a flamethrower ant is used to light five torches for example.
The each stage has a bug central puzzle that’s somewhat apparent quickly and that would be using the flamethrower and to light torches and raise the water level up high enough to put out the queen fire ant and she has baby’s or whatever and then the stage ends.
But that’s usually about 20-30% if they Stage and there are then much harder puzzles in the stage you go back and find and solve that are usually much more invoked and complex and may have time or platforming based challenges based on each creatures gimmick.

Getting in there and getting some stars and getting credits to get the next creature is kind of easy. Getting each creature to 80% is hard and doing 100% is very challenging.

The plot idk, I didn’t think there was one. It’s like two cutscenes and then bowser jr shows up at the boss fights.

The game is very good and very original. People who like Yoshi will like it. I’d say it’s the right length but I did about 80% of it and didn’t just rush to credits.

The original fanbase split mainly between Kaga FE and the FEs after that but before Awakening. Then they splintered even more (in addition with new zoomer blood) after Awakening and even more after 3H. It's a mess because the content and demographic for the "eras" (which can usually be denoted by the main artist) is all over the place, so you have multiple kinds of freaks at each other's necks.

Yeah, it's actually harder than you'd expect from modern Yoshi. It's just that it isn't an obstacle dodging platformer in the traditional sense. There's no way a toddler could complete the post-chapter 6 stuff. It literally took me longer to 100% than Bananza.

engage was in directs and treehouses and had a 20 min video that went out about the game before it came out just like FW.

>engage was in directs
Direct, singular. Post release dlc being in a direct is a different thing. FW was in 4 directs.
>treehouses
It actually didn't, only 3H and FW got that treatment of the switch games.
>20 minute video that went out about the game before it came out
Since NoA's youtube page has nothing that long on Engage I'll assume you're talking about that FE for all video, which came out 3 days before the game released.

They'd have to stop listening to the retards always clamoring for another railshooter (which is a completely dead genre)
